@mcdermott I don't think you needed to come in here and stir this up any more than it already is.

I have three one-day badges and lodging at the Double Tree Boston. Passes were easy, Onpeak was horrible.

Also, they were planning to put the link on their website first, but it completely crashed at noon under the weight of the F5-ers. That's why it was tweeted instead. The PAX people couldn't even log in to the back end of their website to get the shit up.

Related to the hotels - have they had any sort of comment on the shuttles this year? Last year we watched every bus that was supposed to stop at our hotel drive right by it because it was full. We finally made it when they called in an extra bus or two that wasn't scheduled to run by our stop.

Called PAX customer service. They fixed it, and I can pick them up at will call. Now if I could just get Onpeak to work.

    Two options for you;

Mobile Version (Doesn't work for Canadians, ZIP code error):

    https://onpeak.compassreservations.com/compass/external/index.cfm?fuseaction=mobile_entry&meeting_id=4261&meeting_id_code=102322845

Old school looking reservation page(Works for everyone):

    https://onpeak.compassreservations.com/compass/external/index.cfm?Meeting_ID=4261&meeting_ID_code=102322845&colocation_id=0

Stumbled onto the second one after clicking through pretty much every error, alternate link/login URL that was displayed during my frustrations.

    Cheers

They should really get rid of three day passes. I only bought mine because it was cheaper than two one day passes. I would have been fine with q Friday and a Saturday pass but not for more than 3 day cost.

Oh hatted one, pick your reply

    A) Your love of tribal knowledge would make you an awesome consultant.
    B) I must have missed that on the PAX East website, which I erroneously assumed was where I would get information on PAX East.
    C) I do not have tickets. I have been to the two most recent PAX Easts. According to you, one of them is a lie. I'm hoping it is the first one.
    D) fethers

Shame on you if you don't follow Robert Khoo's twitter feed.

@cwood154 that "special link" is the same as the link on the official website.
https://compass.onpeak.com/e/43PRX14 redirects directly to it. It's not new or special.

Single and Double Occupancy, so I am trying to book a room for Four People, which do I choose? And how do I get 4 people in? (Me + 3 Friends)

Also everyone will recognize that onpeak and the hotels has been a giant CF... but for tickets... they're still wide open right now. I just hopped in to check and there's not even much of a queue.

If you want to be as honest as possible, choose Quad occupancy. single = 1 person, double = 2 people, etc, etc.
If you don't care about lying, pick double.

Select double to see options with more then one bed, you can request roll-away beds before checkout too.

NB: Zerz means the one-day tickets. (also, PAX website is saying Saturday inventory is low. YMMV)

    Oh my. That is unfortunate.

Meh. I'm just trying to help people. If you actually intend to go again next year, rather than be angry and boycott forevermore, I recommend taking these steps.

They've been pushing twitter for years. It ain't changing. Arguably it shouldn't change. Because for those repeat fans and attendees that don't willfully shun the method, it works.

I did go to my first PAX last year, but I bought two one-day passes on separate occasions in approximately November and January. In effect, this is my first "opening day" PAX registration. And yes, I will use Twitter more efficiently next year, but that still doesn't help the disgruntlement of being shafted out of even a chance at a three-day pass despite having tried to stay on top of things and register properly. I really had no clue that they were prone to opening up registration via Twitter while leaving their main site hosed. Next year, I will prepare for it.

As for being angry, I am pretty darn disgruntled right now, though I'll get over it. (As if there's a choice?) I don't see much of a future in planning to go every year from here on out though, since PA seems categorically unable to run a clean registration without people getting screwed over at random because of glitches, bad planning, stray cosmic radiation, etc.

Did you you mention that in your post-PAX survey? PA doesn't know about these issues unless they're notified of them. As for the shuttle schedule, OnPeak said to expect it 45 days from the event.

I'm pasting bitching about it, so I'm honestly just curious: how many 3-day passes do they sell per PAX and how many of each 1-day passes do they sell per PAX; my apologies if this is an already-answered question.

One perk to having 3 separate 1-day passes is free swag that is given out per pass. A 3-day pass gets one single go. 3 single-day passes get a person 3 separate snags at loot... I'm trying to sway the "dilemma" in a positive direction. Regardless, $120 for all 3 days at PAX is still affordable and it's PAX, which is just freaking awesome as hell. So in the long-run, paying an extra $45 ain't so bad.

I did make it onto the mobile site, booked at the Park Plaza Boston, I've never stayed anywhere but the Westin, so I hope it's OK and that the shuttles run well. :/

Who is going to PAX South?

You know it's funny, this will be my 4th pax, and I didn't even know there were shuttles. I always walked everywhere. I actually feel remarkably safe in Boston. But maybe that's just my own ignorance of the area.

So I just got everything registered (screaming in terror the entire time, as is tradition), but I do have one issue. Since OnPeak was crashing a lot, I have 3 group reservations listed for me. One that I just completed, one with too many rooms that I want to cancel, and one that's empty. Only one email ever got sent so I'm pretty sure only my last one took, but what can I do for the other ones?

Boston's pretty safe, especially the areas where *most* hotels are.

Just stay away from Dorchester and Roxbury.

    Boston is safe. Caveats:

I wouldn't recommend single females walk around South Boston late at night.
Pickpockets wuv the drunks in Chinatown. But if you're in Chinatown, $3.50 buys you super awesome Bahn Mi (New Saigon Sandwich)

You can cancel up to somewhere around a month out from pax and not be charged.

Alright, Midtown Hotel booked. Whatever happens happens, I guess. If it turns out to be really terrible, I'll probably be dead anyway.

That's my worst case scenario here.

I certainly hope it's not terrible and that you don't die, specifically because that's where I'm staying. Yes, this post was purely narcissistic. :P

@LedaXI & @cooljammer00 , the Midtown Hotel is right near a Cold Stone, so if you do go down there, at least you'll go down with ice cream?

    (it's also not a bad hotel :) )

Hey, it's always better to go down with ice cream.

I've already come to grips with not going in 2015 as I don't want to go through that again. I hit the badge site within seconds of it opening up and it took over 30 minutes for me to make it through the virtual queue. By the time I was able to they didn't have any three day passes left. I wasn't prepared to spend $240 for me and my wife to attend when it was supposed to be $140.

The hotel situation? Well, I got in to the Westin (somehow) but it took almost an hour of crazy 503 errors and server crashes before it somehow went through.

I won't be able to dedicate this much time, effort and money again. To see those ebay links after all that? Wow....

What's weird is his link works, and I got my hotels booked. If I click on the link you have here, or on the website, I'm still getting an OnPeak error page. So, something is in fact different.

I too am one of those people that simply expected the official website to just work. And I too also got hosed on getting the 3-day pass and a nearby hotel stay. The biggest issue is not the badges, because i could still get those for each day i wanted to go, it's that now i need to either walk 2 miles or find transportation to and from. Just a complete let down. I pray it's warmer than it was last year!!

While i can own my disregard for anything 'official' beyond the official website, I will know for next time to not even bother with it, and wait for the direct links to be posted elsewhere.

Yeah, I'm aggravated, but it just reminds me of how awesome PAX East is, and that's it's in much higher demand each and every year.
