Do I need a memory card?
Most likely, yes. Even if you avoid the PSN entirely, there are still some retail games that will require a memory card to save progress.
Are all PSP, PS1 and Minis games on the PSN backwards compatible?
No, currently there are a number of games you can only download through a PS3 and others that don't work at all. The games known to NOT work are listed below and it's important to point out that compatibility varies depending on the region. Some games may work in one region but not in another for instance. How do I switch accounts? This video explains how to switch them.
How do I get into the in-game options in PS1/PSP games?
Simply press down on the screen while in-game and the menu will show up, letting you play with a few settings. The in-game menu lets you remap controls, add a bilinear filter to help eliminate aliasing, increase disc speed (to decrease load times) in PS1 games and more.
How do I take screenshots in-game?
Simply press the Start and PS button at the same time. Some games disable this feature, though, so if it's not working, that's probably the reason.
What's "Cross-Buy"?
It's what Sony has labelled their 'buy one, get the other free' PS3/Vita game promotion. It works just as intended, though so far only for PSN games. You buy the game and get both the PS3, Vita and PS4 versions of it (if available).
Similar to this, there are also some games that have Cross-Buy DLC.

How do I play local/ad-hoc multiplayer PSP games online?
This will require a PS3. On the PS Store there's an app called Ad-hoc Party, which will let you connect to it and play with others that are using Ad-hoc Party. One problem with this app though, is that they're region locked. So people using the US version of the app can only play with others that are using the US version. Luckily it isn't region locked, so European users can create a US account, download it, log back into their normal account and use it to play with people in the US.
Where are my Vita saves stored?
You know the little bubbles on the main screen? Yeah, DO NOT DELETE THEM! While some retail games save your progress straight to the game card, there are a number (including Uncharted GA) that don't. They, alongside downloadable games, save to the memory card and are represented by the bubbles. So deleting them, will actually delete your save as well. If you're running out of space, back your save up to the PS+ Cloud Storage or the game itself to your PC/PS3/Mac and then delete it. Patches and installs will be backed up as well, so you when you put them back on your Vita, you won't need to download/install them all over again.
What's PlayStation Plus?
PS+ is Sony's online service. It provides a couple of very useful features: PS+ cloud storage and auto-update. The cloud storage allows you to upload all your game saves to it and then re-download them at will. While auto-update automatically checks for game patches/firmware updates and downloads them, uploads saves to the cloud storage and syncs your trophies.
The biggest part of PS+, however, is the PS Store content. Alongside additional discounts on games, Sony have a selection of games available to download. These games can be played so long as you're subscribed to PS+ and since the expiration date is saved in the registry, you don't need to be connected online. And if your subscription expires and you eventually re-subscribe, you'll be able to play the games from your first subscription again. You don't need to keep them downloaded, they'll be in your download list. Sony swaps games in/out of the selection each month, so it's worth keeping an eye on.
February 11th is going to fucking kill me. Danganronpa, and Toukiden on the same day? (And Lightning Returns, but that's not a Vita game) I mean, fewer trips is a good thing, but I literally want to play all three of those games on the first day.
I notice we had kind of a new rush of users starting this last holiday season. I hope this means the device is being brought back from the brink.
Especially considering all the great stuff on its way.
You know, I am kind of looking at the release schedule and wondering what there is for me to actually get. The only thing I don't really have that people are talking about a lot is Ys: Memories of Celestia and I am not sure when that will be released here in Australia.
The vita seriously needs a good push on software that isn't stuff that many people have played on PC already (minding, I do own a lot of those games on Vita, EG Sole Survivor). Hopefully the PS4 can pick up the Vita a bit and developers get interested in making games for it again.

The Vita already has a pretty good amount of stuff you don't see on other platforms!
Ys: Memories of Celceta, Soul Sacrifice, Gravity Rush, Tearaway, Sorcery Saga, Killzone: Mercenary, Dokuro, Freedom Wars is hopefully coming to the US and Gravity Rush 2 is confirmed... and none of these are games which were created with the Vita in mind (Guacamelee!) or has the best version available on Vita (Dragon's Crown is without a doubt best played on one due to the ability to suspend gameplay).
The problem isn't that it doesn't have exclusives, it's that they aren't heavily advertised and most don't have immediate name recognition like Mario, Zelda, etc.
Tearaway was my #1 game of 2013. Beautiful graphics and papercraft aesthetic, great platforming, gameplay unique to the Vita platform, incredible music, the ability to make items out of construction paper, just a top-notch experience from beginning to end. Everybody who reviewed it was charmed. And yet, even PA made a comic about how great it was and yet nobody was going to play it.
I would like to see a lot more exclusives, mind. Since there wasa sales bump in December, hopefully this attracts more developers to the platform. It's already a haven for indie developers.
I know virtually nothing about Danganronpa except that everybody in the VN and Vita threads is going apeshit about it. I loved AA and 999/VLR, so hopefully it's something that will be up my alley.
This'll be posted in the PSN thread, but here's the list of Vita games on sale this week:
Game Title PS Plus Price Sale Price Original Price
Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two $7.50 $14.99 $29.99 Killzone: Mercenary $9.00 $17.99 $35.99
LIMBO PS Vita $3.75 $7.49 $14.99
Lone Survivor: The Director’s Cut (Cross Buy) $5.24 $7.49 $12.99
METAL GEAR SOLID: PEACE WALKER $5.00 $9.99 $19.99
PIXELJUNK MONSTERS: ULTIMATE HD $3.75 $7.49 $14.99
Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time PS Vita $6.75 $13.49 $26.99 Soul Sacrifice $9.00 $17.99 $35.99
SPELUNKY (Cross Buy) $3.75 $7.49 $14.99
Stealth Inc: A Clone in the Dark (Cross Buy) $4.19 $5.99 $9.99
The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season $5.00 $9.99 $19.99
Thomas Was Alone (Cross Buy) $2.50 $4.99 $9.99
Velocity Ultra Vita $2.00 $3.99 $7.49
Worms Revolution Extreme $3.75 $7.49 $14.99
I highlighted the two I think are the best deals, and the lowest they've been yet. Not sure how it'll work if you got Soul Sacrifice on PS+ for free, then try to buy it here, if that's something you want to do for some reason.
There's also a similar list of PS3 games on sale, but I'll leave that to our PSN Thread person.

Very tempted by Killzone. But MGS:Peacewalker, I am so buying! My old PSP's stick is too janky to play it, and I didn't realize it was available for download. Time to transfer some save games...
Also, went into Gamestop to pick up Persona 4, and they only had the display case with their garish stickers on it, no sealed copies in stock. Said to myself "Self, this is why you don't do Gamestop anymore because you're too old for this shit." Went home, ordered a brand new copy from Amazon for five dollars less and I'll just wait two days to play it.
Really needed to share this with people who'd appreciate it - just arrived :
Woo! Bought off Amazon.com from a seller in Japan and shipped to Canada, Koji also sent me an email with a picture of him smiling and giving a thumbs-up. His penmanship is excellent.

It's been said but it bears repeating: Killzone at $9 is a damn steal. It's probably one of the top Vita games of 2013 for me (incidentally Soul Sacrifice was one of the others).
EDIT: I'm so going to use my Double XP voucher when this goes on sale and annihilate all the influx of new users

Gamestop stickers are easy.
Take the insert out of the case.
Apply enough lighter fluid to the sticker for it to look damp.

Goo-gone or WD-40 also work for this as well if you have either of those handy.

Hydrogen peroxide too - that stuff your mom would put on your cuts when you were a kid and you'd go "ssst!" and it would sting super-bad and like, foam up as it kills the germs.

I believe Mercenary is not as story focused, and more arcadey shooter than its console entries. To me, it sounds like a faster paced, more exciting Killzone.
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.

Sorry, didn't play the PS4 version. I DID enjoy the PS3 version though, so it's not looking good for you. Is there a demo? Or was that only the multiplayer beta?
Next month, Tecmo Koei will publish Toukiden: The Age of Demons in North America and Europe, but the game will only feature an English-language localization, the publisher revealed via the Koei Facebook page.
In response to a fan asking whether the game would be translated into European languages other than English, a Tecmo Koei representative replied: “It’s Japanese voice with English subtitle only.”
Toukiden will be available on February 11th in North America and February 14th in Europe for the PlayStation Vita.

Annoyingly I bought the game 3 days,or so, before I gave my vita away to a better home. Managed to hold out almost a fortnight buti just got back from the supermarket and was *this* close to pickinga new one up. Extortionate pricing be damned.
It was my niece's birthday. I kinda spent a bit much during steam sale and bought a few Christmas presents. Couldn't really buy her anything that she'd like beyonda vita so it made sense. I Do miss remote play but I've done well without it. Just frustrating since I'd literally bought games days beforehand that I'd never even tried. Soul sacrifice and persona 4. I still have the ps4 though!

Since there was a sales bump in December, hopefully this attracts more developers to the platform. It's already a haven for indie developers.
They're both really good so do you want a fast paced Action/RPG or a cute roguelike?

I highlighted the two I think are the best deals, and the lowest they've been yet. Not sure how it'll work if you got Soul Sacrifice on PS+ for free, then try to buy it here, if that's something you want to do for some reason.
There's also a similar list of PS3 games on sale, but I'll leave that to our PSN Thread person.
Gonna buy MGS PW, though.
I was organizing my GotY thoughts the other day and realized that Mercenary was actually the most valuable FPS of 2013, for me.
At that price I'm gonna' grab it just to have a digital copy - and I'm pretty tempted by TWD: Season 1 too.
High school students. Murder. A supernatural bear. A different world. Visual novel style.
Day 1 purchase.

Woo! Bought off Amazon.com from a seller in Japan and shipped to Canada, Koji also sent me an email with a picture of him smiling and giving a thumbs-up. His penmanship is excellent.
EDIT: I'm so going to use my Double XP voucher when this goes on sale and annihilate all the influx of new users

Goo-gone or WD-40 also work for this as well if you have either of those handy.
Hydrogen peroxide too - that stuff your mom would put on your cuts when you were a kid and you'd go "ssst!" and it would sting super-bad and like, foam up as it kills the germs.
For someone who didn't really care for the PS4 Killzone, any point in me picking up the Vita one?

I believe Mercenary is not as story focused, and more arcadey shooter than its console entries. To me, it sounds like a faster paced, more exciting Killzone.
Sorry, didn't play the PS4 version. I DID enjoy the PS3 version though, so it's not looking good for you. Is there a demo? Or was that only the multiplayer beta?

If it meant more Japanese games got released in NA, I'd be super happy.

Annoyingly I bought the game 3 days,or so, before I gave my vita away to a better home. Managed to hold out almost a fortnight buti just got back from the supermarket and was *this* close to pickinga new one up. Extortionate pricing be damned.
I don't think I'm that big of a person.
