i think the worst part about not smoking is i've just found other stupid ways to spend $5 a day and i don't seem to have any more money than i did when i smoked
Trading one addiction for another is pretty common.
I have a cousin who was a pretty bad alcoholic, but hasn't touched a drop since he took up CrossFit. But now he travels every weekend to running locations and spends about two hours a day in the gym.
When I quit smoking, I got pretty fat. When I quit eating shittily, I started taking in a ton of caffeine.
Now I don't eat or drink or smoke or do any stimulants. Or even watch porn.
YES! Everyone told me it could not be done. But fuck them, I did it anyway. Even with out proper documentation.* Cars are driving by my canned looped video and I am recording their plates in a database. Then using certain plates to make a little light pop up on my desk. LIKE A BOSS!
*There is an extremely well documented SDK for multiple languages. But it doesn't cover configuration.
I am awarding you an awesome because that sounds both challenging and satisfying from a technical perspective, but the awesome is contingent on this not being some sort of creepy stalker / law enforcement overreach situation.

Yeah shaming people for smoking is p lame, imo. It's like, we all blow our money on stupid shit. Booze, drugs, videogames, fast food.
It just seems silly to get on your high horse about someone smoking because it's not your chosen method of blowing your money or slowly killing yourself.
to be fair, smoking is really dumb
Oh totally! It is like, one of the dumbest things a person can do!
But if someone wants to do it, it's legal and it's regulated and who the fuck am I, steve"went to jack in the box to stress eat at 2am"marks44 to look at them all narrow-eyed and angry.

It's for my demo machine. But I do work with schools, local, state and federal law enforcement. So I make no promises. I did not have anything to do with the NYC LPR system and it's five year retention period.
There's a multimillion dollar tobacco smuggling trail from VA to NY because of the huge price difference and how easy it is to just load a suitcase full of god damn $50 cartons and board a discount bus

i wonder what the super paranoid far right will say once Obama leaves office without having declared himself President for life...
Same thing the super paranoid far left said when bush left without declaring himself president for life. That was a thing, especially after the executive order after katrina that was for better organization. People thought it mean he was going to take over the government and declare himself dictator using it somehow.
Not being a paranoid American, what did they say?
man the paranoid far left in America hardly exist
i mean yes, if you trawled the internet you could find some nutcase in the states calling him/herself a communist but crazy leftists in the states tend to be potheads and new age weirdos and such
the defining characteristic of these people is that none of them vote
They most certainly do exist.
Hell, I was one of them. I wasn't a 9/11 was an inside job maroon, but I did naively think that Bush might tamper with the vote to get himself a third term to avoid criminal prosecution.
in fairness to you
he did steal his first term
and wasn't the "hanging chad" thing in one of the bush elections?
and remember all those black people who suddenly found it hard to vote?
Florida
Point being
suspecting Bush of fiddling the elections is significantly less crazy than thinking Obama is a kenyan muslim
i mean the evidence against Bush is, you know, all that tampering that turned up
the evidence against Obama is, well, he's black
Obama is a Kenyan Muslim is a whole extra level of crazy that is markedly different from the top of the quote tree where 21st century asked:
i wonder what the super paranoid far right will say once Obama leaves office without having declared himself President for life...
i think the venn diagram of people who believe Obama is attempting to set himself up and a dictator and the people who believe he's a Kenyan Muslim Socialist whatever probably has a lot of crossover
As did the diagram of people that thought Bush was going to set HIMSELF as president for life and truthers.
It doesn't make one the same as the other or erase the other side of the aisle's paranoia.
I'm telling you, bro. There were paranoid democrats post katrina that thought it was pretty ominous that we were using mercenaries for Katrina relief and that Bush was up to something bigger than petty graft and kickbacks for his buddies.
in retrospect it seems laughable considering what a reluctant president bush was throughout his presidency. i'm not sure we've ever had a president who hated the job more.
dude just wanted to work on his golf game
he wanted to be a rancher more than anything
Removed from the scenario. I really like G Dub as a person.
Dude just fucking fell into a presidency.
He didn't haplessly fall into a presidency. He wanted to be president, he liked being a politician. He wasn't exactly the reluctant philosopher king.
He just underestimated how much of an evil, uncontrollable cunt Cheney would be. He wasn't ready for Katrina. His fiscal policies didn't work out as various bubbles burst. (Few things work out while bubbles are bursting, to be fair.)

I think the stigma of smoking comes for the way that smoking tends to be a packaged lifestyle thing. It's not just the drug itself, but the cancer and the smoke and the smell and the cost and physical toll and the not being able to lie about it because you always look and smell like a smoker.

I agree. I'm not an avid defender of smoking and I've never smoked a cigarette in my life. When I was 16 my mom sat down with me and said "I smoked until I got pregnant with your oldest brother. It'll eventually give you lung cancer but I'm in no position to forbid you from doing it." And I decided not to.
But at the same time it's really annoying to me from a social standpoint that you can go to a party where people are doing shots shots shots shots and doing lines and smoking weed but the second a person steps outside to smoke a cigarette its like HEY WHY HAVENT YOU QUIT YOU STUPID FUCK SMOKE THAT WAY OUTSIDE YOURE KILLING ALL OF US.

also, to be fair, it shouldn't shock anyone other than maybe W that ramping up spending while cutting taxes is bad fiscal policy
