Now, if I had to pick an image that illustrated the exact opposite of a smelly sheep rustling hobo drowning in a fetid pond somewhere in the Australian bush, this MIGHT be a strong contender.
see i read that sentence up there and I have absolutely no clue what commission I was talking about. I hope I haven't forgotten something. But nobody's been bugging me, so.
anyway, got a landscape in the works which is going better than usual, but putting that on hold for a few weeks to crank out another portrait, for ... secret reasons
That's super pretty, the treatment of the boats is awesome. The bush at the bottom left makes it a little confusing to get a feeling for our vantage point, but maybe seeing the painting straight on would help? It might help to add some darker values to it, just right now the right and left sides feel kind of disconnected I think.
Its not representational, (and I may heavily paint over that bush anyway), but I agree there's a disconnect at the moment. I've got a lot more to do on it, there's some later elements that should pull things together.
dump time
I think I posted these in the doodle thread? anyway did some outdoor gouache sketching weekend before last, it was fun but logistically difficult
also I'm starting to do some actual printing. I haven't printed anything yet, I literally just went to the studio this morning, but I made some small easy sketches I could do as training exercises
Really dig those rocks painting, and the little seascape is very charming.
I just checked out your website, so you make robots huh? That stuff looks freaking awesome! It makes me wonder, I know you've been around the AC for a long time, what's your relationship to your art? Is it just a hobby for the time when you're not being a robotics engineer? Or do you have some professional art ambitions like many of the rest of us fools?
hmm good question
I genuinely wouldn't mind spending all my time painting, but I've never had much interest in developing a commercial art career (which is fortunate, because I'd have to invest years in bringing my skill levels up for that). So, let's call it a hobby (but one I would secretly rather be doing than my actual job).
aaaannnd done (microscopic fixes, plus a glaze). Blurry phone photo for now because my phone doesn't like the lighting conditions in my living room, I guess.
oh jeez has it been really this long since I posted
i have a finished commission to put up but I think it's a surprise for someone so I'll keep it under my hat till they've received it. But I did get round to doing a sketch for DrZiplock that apparently I owed him from about ... four years ago?
aw thanks! I wanna do more with that style, I think it finally achieves the mix of loose but detailed I've been wanting for years. It means actually drawing, though.
So tynic did 3 portraits for me that are unbelievable, but I'll refrain from being a thunder thief and let her post them if she wants.
Rest assured they are amazing.
I definitely wouldn't go that far, and it took me like 3x my initial time estimate because I am a SLOW BUM
but I was going through photos today and found some pics I took of two before I sent them off to bubs, so in the spirit of posting more and doing more art:
Wow! Those are beautiful. Children are super weird to draw, portionally it is very easy to create a small monster. The colors and expression on the first one are really lovely.
The cynical part of me thinks your office wouldn't bat an eye if it were a female figure.
Regardless, it's beautiful!
oh, my boss is female.
This was stapled on the wall for a good three months. A nude female figure would have been instant grounds for a disciplinary 'chat', I suspect.

I immediately thought of Waltzing Matilda when I saw this. And i'm not even Australian.
Bebarce ... You have lost me completely.

calling it done
i did some crappy paintings that didn't pan out and then I did this one, which I think I've finished (pretty sure)
blurry closeup
got a commission or two coming up and am trying to slowly get back into digital stuff so hopefully I'll be updating more on the reg

... and I made a christmas card this year, which I was going to post but now I think I don't want to spoil it for potential recipients.
I'll put it up after christmas
on a bit of a mucha roll this year,
