World vs. World: Sneak Attack
Come join in the World vs. World Sneak Attack! From December 16 through January 13, with every player kill in WvW, you’ll gain a point toward your world score. Use a finisher while your world has Borderlands Bloodlust to earn your world another point toward victory. To be extra sneaky, objectives under attack will not display white swords for the duration of this event. Creep in under the radar to shake things up or patrol your objectives and raise the alarm to your world to keep sneaks off your assets. To celebrate this event, we are introducing the Mist War Summons effect, which will give players +15% WXP, +50% magic find in WvW, and +15% experience on kills in WvW.
This special event gives us an opportunity to freshen up play by bending the rules of WvW, and we’re excited to try out some new things and offer improved rewards for a limited time.
PvP: Ladder Test Season
We’ve made substantial changes to the way our PvP matchmaking and leaderboards work, and we’d like your help in experimenting with these newly improved systems. Between December 16 and January 13, head into Ranked Arena and compete for the top spots on the leaderboard to earn PvP-exclusive prizes, including the Glorious Hero’s armor, which is available only through top placement on the leaderboard or in tournament play.
The top-ranked players on the ladder in each region will earn the following prizes:
Top 250: Mini Llama
Top 20: One piece of Glorious Hero’s armor
Top 5: Two pieces of Glorious Hero’s armor

So if you haven't finished up your monthlies, today or early tomorrow would be the best time to get to it. In theory that'll allow you to double up on the monthly rewards (sort of, since the new rewards are just every 28 log-ins), as well as maximise your AP if that's your thing.

NEW FEATURES AND CONTENT
New Daily Achievement System Achievements have been divided into 3 categories: PvE, WvW, and PvP.
The number of available achievements per day is based on the highest-level character on an account:
Levels 1 – 10: 1 achievement per category
Levels 11 – 30: 3 achievements per category
Levels 31 – 80: 4 achievements per category
Completing daily achievements now awards players with items and/or experience based on their corresponding content type, such as WvW daily achievements rewarding world experience.
Completing daily achievements no longer awards players with achievement points.
A new Daily Completionist achievement has been added and is earned by completing any combination of daily achievements from the three categories.
Completing the Daily Completionist achievement rewards players with 10 achievement points.
December will be the final month to include monthly achievements.
Existing daily and monthly achievement rewards have been rolled into the new log-in reward system.

New Log-in Reward System
The first time you log in each day, you’ll receive a new item from the reward track.
Progress on the log-in reward track will reset only after claiming the 28th and final reward.
Players logged in after 4:00 p.m. PDT on December 15 will receive their first daily log-in reward chest after 4:00 p.m. PDT on December 16.
Players last logged out before 4:00 p.m. PDT on December 15 will receive their first daily log-in reward chest immediately after the update.

World vs. World
The World vs. World Sneak Attack event begins December 16. For the next month of World vs. World, the following rules will apply:
All player kills will award 1 point of world score. Using a finisher on a player while you have Borderlands Bloodlust will award 2 points.
The white crossed swords that appear when an objective is under attack have been removed from all objectives in World vs. World. Now a player must scout the objectives in order to see them being attacked.
All players will receive a Mist War Summons effect, which increases WXP gain by 15%, experience gain by 15%, and magic find by 50% while in WvW.
Structured Player vs. Player
The PvP Ladder test season begins December 16. For the next month of Player vs. Player, the following rules will apply:
Between the dates of December 16 and January 13, enter Ranked Arena during the ladder test season and compete for the top spots on the leaderboard to earn PvP-exclusive rewards.
At the end of the season, the top 250 players on the ladder in each region will each receive a PvP-exclusive Mini Llama.

They are part of the Grinch Grawnk event in Salma District. You talk to him, he hints were Sous-Chef Seimur is, and you can find him to buy Bloodstone-related culinary "treats" to feed him to get the orphan's ornaments back.
Also, it's worth mentioning that although you weren't here for the early chapters of Season 2, you didn't miss them forever. The Story Journal allows you to play through them at your own pace once you have them unlocked. You can unlock them for free if you logged in during the release window, or you can pay some gems to unlock them later. Unlocking them gives you access to complete the story missions and related achievements on all your characters, and each mission and set of achievements comes with various rewards. But all the open-world changes are still around: you can go to Dry Top and the Silverwastes without ever having done a single story chapter. So you can decide to what extent you'd like to "catch up".

The rewards for the Wintersday SPvP track are insane.
You can get Permanent Finishers (normally 7/800 gems), you can get the Tonics/Recipes for the Toys (recipes are 10g+ on the TP), and you can get the aqua-breather with the special frosty effect.
Going to be playing a lot of that until next LS release.
I've just started playing a little bit in short bursts again. I was doing the Warming Grawnk's Heart jumping puzzles. I completed all but one; I just realized that all the locations for the Gold Ball Ornament are in a level 80 zone. My character is only level 39. Is there a way for a lower level character to get one of those puzzles, or am I pretty much out of luck?

You can ask a higher level to escort you, or you can try running it yourself (if you time your dodges correctly, and use weapons/skills with movement abilities, you can move past a lot of enemies; I've seen level 7s in level 80 zones like this.
I would assume the collection will persist after Christmas and you'll have a chance to get it then, when you're higher level. It's in Basic Collections, not Wintersday, so it should stick around.
But srsly though ANet, can we get some new content? I haven't been online for more than like 15 minutes a day over the past week or two except for missions (thanks new dailies!)

So, if you've started it, you've unlocked the collection. Completing the collection gets you the reward, you don't need to talk to an NPC or anything. So the only question is if they will take out the ornaments from the puzzles. I suspect they will not. But if you don't want to risk it, try getting an escort as Bethryn mentioned (it will be rough and probably take awhile, even for the easiest location, since you'll have to get through all of Straits just to get to Malchor's in the first place.) Or if you get very lucky with a black lion chest, you could get a "teleport to friend" item and do it that way.
But I would say there's a reasonable chance it'll be completable later when you're ready.
A little wintersday gift from the family. No idea where to put it, though - I might just need to get another shelf.

So someone on reddit just reminded me of one of the discrepancies I noted back when S2e1 came out.
The Zephyrite victims around Dry Top were killed with a knife. And yet Aerin has never been shown using a knife or similar; he was an explosives dude.
At the time I was willing to put this away as just slightly eh writing, but now that we have Caithe going rogue all for the egg (which the Zephyrites had), the possibility is definitely there that it was Caithe who took out the Zephyrites.
I picked up WoW again this past week. I love just how much I'm given to do, but it made me realize how impressive the fundamentals of GW2 -- instanced nodes, waypoints, dodging -- really are. I missed them too much to play it again full time.
It did, however, also make me realize just how badly this game needs a proper expansion.
