My interview is tomorrow. I'm trying to finish preparing my presentation for it and stressing about getting it done, let alone rehearsing it. It's a different style than what I do at my summer job so it feels a bit unnatural, not to mention that I tend to prefer playing off the audience than having a rigidly set script. I'm weirdly not super anxious (at least yet) but I will be if I don't get this done soon.

Also thanks for the lemurs, @JoeUser! I am definitely going to look at them before heading to my interview tomorrow - SO MANY CUDDLES. very few things can ease my mind better than cuddling lemurs, I suspect.

I got a wedding and some house renovations this year.

    After doing some math:

    i want to make an extra $1k a month/$250 a week/~10k this year

    I am already busy M-F 7am - 8pm.

So probably looking at weekend part-time gigs/jobs.

    Any ideas?

So this evening I, along with my coworkers & some other new employees, were introduced at the monthly board meeting for the parks & rec department to which I am employed.

Before we got to leave early the president-commissioner informed us that the board was happy to have us within the department and said we ought to be happy to be with our department.

Primarily because this past year our parks & rec department got CAPRA accredited, CAPRA being The Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies. There are currently 139 accredited park and recreation agencies in the United States, four of them in Washington state (we actually comprise two of those).

We were then informed that out of the 12,000 parks & rec departments that CAPRA judges/inspects we were told we're the best.

The best in the United States.

    HOT DAMN.

That's what I thought, so it makes not a lick of sense to steal from them. Tumblrites should be shoveling money to them. Not that I would approve of people stealing from Chik-a-Fil, or any other company that is horrible.

We've recently had another huge wave/spike in interest in bath bombs because some of our holiday ones went viral last month and we're having a hard time keeping things in stock. Then we had a noticeable spike in missing things in our shop and turns out that there has been a spike in "Hey, how do you steal from Lush? I desperately need a bath bomb." type things on the internet.

I mean, people steal. I know this and we do what we can to prevent it but with the huge rush in traffic on a daily basis it's been harder to prevent and it's irritating to know that it has also become a more popular thing to talk about and share tips on. There's been a spike in shops across the globe.

    Whoo, internet!

Are they taking life advice from a talking raccoon?

"Question. What if I see something that I wanna take and it belongs to someone else?"
    "Then you will be arrested."
"But what if I want it more than the person who has it?"
    "Still illegal."
"That doesn't follow. No, I want it more, sir. Do you understand me?"

How does management handle this? Are employees held accountable for loss?

I really hope not, but I don't know how Lush treats it's employees in general.

    Sigh, internet. :?

Larger businesses are happy ignoring shoplifting because it is cheaper than getting into a court case. Often it's easy to spot but hard to prove, and even if you can prove it it is usually not worth pursuing.

95% of what I do I love, but the no-notice accomplish the impossible because this is super important and someone literally should not have waited until the last hour.

it took me half a dozen ass chewings to get used to the idea that shit really does roll downhill.

However, today was one of those rare days that everything went without a hitch.

Someday I'll get a real paycheck for it.

When I worked in a grocery store, there was dedicated loss prevention who tended to only go after people stuffing backpacks full of stuff. I'm not sure how responsibility broke down managementwise, for product. Employees were held responsible for shortages at the till. If receipts said there should be X amount in the register and they were short, they would pay the difference out of their paycheck. If it happened "too often" (wildly variable) they would be fired. Inventory was impossible to track on a daily basis. In smaller stores it's easier to run inventory.

I'm mostly curious how small franchise stores handle such things. Who does corporate yell at. Do they care?

obviously at like 12:30am the night before my interview I realized my presentation could be made like 10 times more interesting/exciting and rewrote large swaths of it (paring down a lot of stuff, adding other stuff). I'm finally finishing it up with help of a friend in google docs at about 1:30 am. I should sleep now!

Lets say you were out of town on a meeting, if someone was to come by your desk with a urgent set of documents that need to be worked on, can you think of a reason why that person would put them underneath all of the other crap on your desk?

Because that happened to me today, someone dropped off something at my desk last thursday but didnt tell me about it, and put it underneath a bunch of other documents on my desk, and then asked me if I had finished them because they were due tomorrow. That was at 4, made me stay till 9 and im still not done with it.

Just... why, why would someone do that?

Hmm, there's a Lush in my nearby mall, I should really check it out.

Edit: For anyone that shops at Lush, what's a good facial moisturizer for very dry skin?

    It is pretty funny!

All we can really do is be proactive about preventing it but I'm going to give me staff some extra LP training at our next meeting. I have some plans! The biggest part is that any noticeable increase eats into my shop's profit. It's not enough to break us but it's still not ideal.

And they treat us well! I've been with them for almost 8 years now at a few different shops.

Also, the top three moisturizers in terms of sheer moisture are Skin's Shangri La, Skin Drink, and Celestial. Celestial is always a nice starting place since it's really soothing but more midweight and still sinks in pretty well so if you want moisture but not the barrier on the skin it's where you want to go!
