They're going to use a larger flash memory chip. Though I looked and it's only slightly more expensive to get 64- and 128GB flash memory chips compared to microSD cards

I was looking at Amazon because there's no official Apple stores here, just resellers which are dodgy with warranty and such
ordering from Apple, it goes from 699 to 799 euro for 16 to 64gb, which is still €15 more for 64GB less storage (not counting the base storage already in the phone)

You avoid all the headaches associated with SD cards though. you can actually run applications on your whole storage area. You don't have to shuffle folders around manually. You don't have to worry about losing tiny little SD cards It's worth the little bit extra.
When I was growing up the OG Gameboy was all I had for a very long time. As a result, I did so many personal challenge playthroughs of games, like playing Metroid 2 without draining the lava.
