I prefer inverted up/down, so I'm fine with that. I don't know how I would have reacted if up/down weren't inverted in addition to left/right being inverted.
At least you can hold L2 and get that sweet zoomed-in camera angle.
Aw man i forgot about the zoom-in.
So i might start the game a day early or 2, and was wondering for the first week are there any recommendations on how i should approach this weeks progress?
You shouldn't have to worry too much about buying gear during the first week. It's best to keep your money if you can, anyway.
Do the Thextera hunt if you have the time. And the Flowering Cactuar hunt if you can pull it off, though it might be too high level. If you avoid talking to Old Dalan for the second time, you can keep Penelo around and have her help during fights.
Remember to talk to the petitioner of the hunt to get your reward.
If you want to get the Zodiac Spear, there's info in this thread (or you can Google it) about how to make sure you can get it later in the game. And the steps to get it start in the first week.
12 was my first Final Fantasy, but I've never finished it for some reason.
This seems like a good opportunity to fix that. Count me in.

I am so torn on whether to do original or IZJS. Because I definitely like the flexibility at the end game of everyone doing everything, and all those delicious stat boosts where everyone casts spells 30% quicker for 30% less MP and junk. But I've never done IZJS, and am not even sure what classes I would pick.

ffxii is certainly good, and not bad. if someone hasnt played ffvii or ffx either i knda feel like 12 is a weird one to play first, but not necessarily the wrong thing to do. i do have a bad habit of giving all the characters very similar gambits, sword and shield with telekenisis and in that way they all became interchangable and none of them really stand out.
Actually: if you have a disc copy of zjs you can use that modded memory card trick to patch the script. That's kind of how the guy who did the project originally wanted people to play anyway.
I don't have the international version, but I'm going to try and force myself to create classes and stick with it. Though I really need to look up a gambit unlock guide because it's far too gated.
And why did they make ninja swords dark elementals? Everything absorbs it. I was so disappointed.
For some reason I never finished this one, I've been meaning to for years. I'm starting uni half way through September so bugger it, I'll make a great first impression by shutting myself in my room away from my housemates to play this. I'm in!

I think ninja swords were given other elements in IZJS.
I looked through the thread but didn't see this answered, will this work on the original PS3? I don't remember if it was backwards compatible or not, but this is the one FF game I missed so I'd love to participate, but I know I can't find my PS2.
So Video is still working on my PS2, but audio has stopped. I'm going to pick up some new cables tonight, see if that makes a difference. If the problem is in the PS2 unit itself, I may have to start late. I can find one cheap, no doubt, but I'm heading into the Pre-PAX extreme budget crunch this month and next as well.
The good news is, I have tomorrow off work if I need to search all the electronics stores in the state.

Depends how old. If its the PS3 Fat there is a good chance that it is backwards.
If its fat and heavy, definitely will play on that one. If not then.. no.
Hi! uh, long time reader, first time poster. i JUST on a ~total whim~ started playing final fantasy 12 a few days ago for the first time (more or less). and today i randomly saw this thread and was like, wow what a weird coincidence, i gotta get in on this. so, if you guys don't mind that i already have a bit of a head start and am totally new here, i'd love to join in on this community playthrough and discuss this game (which i totally dig so far).
also, what's the general consensus regarding Revenant Wings? I'm thinking of picking it up after FF12 is all done.

Revenant Wings is fun if a little simple, then deeply and obnoxiously difficult for the last few missions. Never did beat it, then lost my copy on a plane. I did not mourn its passing.
if you have the disc you can do what im doing which is playing it on my pc via pcsx2 with a (optional) xbox 360 controller
I think I am going to go this route, hooked up my ps2 to make sure everything still works and can't stand the camera controls. At least this way I can just bind it backwards since the game doesn't seem to have that option.
So... I guess I'm just going to begin tonight and get a little head start, since I finished Arkham Knight a day earlier than expected.

I really, really wish my disc didn't have a scratch.
I can't even get the stupid thing to start.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Ok, I think I'll join in on this. I enjoyed FF12, but the plot is just kind of a mishmash in my mind, so I'd like to go through and get a clearer impression of it.

hmmm. i'll probably give it a try if i can find it for super ~duper~ cheap. thanks for the info! i don't hear people talk about Revenant Wings that much, well, at least compared to the other Ivalice games.
I really wish I still had my old TV. On my current set, this game looks like it was assembled from a dumptruck full of baboon anuses.

The character textures are insanely high res, you can tell from supersampled emulator shots.
Forgot about random hp/mp gains on level up in addition to random chest spawns, random chest loot and random quickening damage. Would be kinda hilarious if an hd IZJS edition had the same rng issue that FFXhd on the PS4 has.
All right, peoples, the playthrough begins as of today. Fire up your platforms, start your new games (or continue as the case may be), dust off your Ivalice encyclopedias, and let's go!
We have a few people who are going to be playing the game for the first time, so let's try to keep real spoilers tagged where possible. Discussion should mostly be relegated to the content of that particular week, but you can really talk about whatever you want so long as you keep it tagged and properly labeled.
I'll start up in a few hours. This is gonna be good.

Yea i had to fiddle with my settings on my tv to get it to look presentable.
