Hahahahaha holy shit Angela 1602 has the best use of the setting yet
1602 Cloak and Dagger are born from two actors with Shakespeare's troupe performing Romeo and Juliet when the disgruntled former lead male actor of the troupe poisons the new, black, lead playing Romeo with a concoction during the climactic death scene.
Only the concoction ended up being more than just a poison and transformed him into Cloak with Dagger being the actress who gains her powers by kissing him with the poison still on his lips.
SHE FUCKING KILL THE POISONER WITH A LIGHT DAGGER WHILE SAY ING THE "O HAPPY DAGGER, THIS IS THY SHEATH" LINE
I am astonished
Just
Good lord
Yeah, #2 was a hell of a lot weaker than today's issue. Holy shiiiit.
I think a lot of that is due to Gillen moving to secondary writer while Bennett is on main plots
She definitely isn't bad at all, but he is noticeably better and also handles the setting a lot more deftly than her. He does stuff like that and she has Serah break the fourth wall and make jokes about it being a period piece.
Eh, I think this issue was just put together better overall, the stakes were more interesting, and there was no meaningless crossover. Gillen is an immensely talented writer, but he can get just as carried away with jokes (a few times, in Asgard's Assassin.)
I really enjoy Bennet's Serah. Just issue #2 is weaker than 1 or 3, shit happens.
Ales Kot and other smaller comics folk/journalists are really mad about Red Wolf, due to Nathan Edmonson being on the project, claiming that he is an "abusive creep" and more.
But the people involved say that they've gathered enough stories to publish something proper and are just trying to figure out where so we will see over the next few days I suppose
This is a couple of pages old but anyway;
I am really unsure about this kind of stuff and actually rather alarmed at what it is essentially attempting to do.
Like, maybe Edmonson is indeed an abusive creep, or not, or whatever. But I kind of feel like, okay it is definitely true that people are afraid to speak out and that victims are often ignored. And yet, this article has a bunch of suggested allegations which it specifically doesn't go into, specifically notes that actually getting any evidence of this is pretty difficult in of itself, and I kind of feel like, what am I supposed to think here? What is my reaction supposed to be?
Am I supposed to just go along with these half-arsed accusations just because the overall shunning of victims in wider society and the industry as a whole is a thing? Am I supposed to just blacklist Edmonson, not buy any comics by him, essentially take part in a concerted effort to deny him work and ruin his career over some allegations without evidence or proof because... it's the only way to show solidarity with this cause?
Like, again, I'm not saying that any allegations are untrue. They may well be, for sure. But this isn't the social justice it purports itself to be, it's a witch hunt, it's mob justice. Yes, there are absolutely many problems with the harassment, stalking, threatening behaviour of some people not being properly dealt with by the authorities, but the alternative to that surely cannot be "we will therefore socially annihilate this person." That's... not justice at all.
I dunno guys I feel like this is starting to happen a lot these days. It's great that the awful behaviour of some people in the industry is definitely a public concern these days, but I really don't like this whole thing where one person is thrown before the court of social media and judged guilty or innocent by the general public based on what they've been told by whoever, wherever and so on.
I mean Edmonson hasn't really been raked over the coals yet, that is one of the only articles I can find and has had no real traction in any form of bigger comics press. Even Bleeding Cool hasn't touched it.
That's specifically why I said I'd wait and see when they got that proper article with stories and sources published before making any judgment
Right now it is entirely he said they said shit and while it may be true it is impossible to verify and there aren't enough collaborating stories from creators or journalists to convince me
Whatever happened to her? Like, last I remember, there were two women who were Jackpot, one of them died, and the other was thinking about continuing to be a super-hero, and then the whole thing just seemed to fall down the memory hole.

My first thought on that Spider-Man car is, why is it hitting 88 mph and about to travel through time?
Kinda surprised they didn't tweak his outfit a bit but whatever it's a solid, if not particularly original, look
It has a lot more impact when you realize that it's the equivalent of him walking in wearing blue spandex and a big "A" on his forehead. He is wearing Steve Roger's uniform and shield because he is basically Captain America where he comes from.

So I guess they put out the full middle of the movie fight scene in Ant-Man out in anticipation of the Japanese theater release.
Finally getting around to reading my older books. Battleworld Silver Surfer by Stokoe was fucking amazing.

I knew there was a serious lack of superhero toys of female characters, but until one of my best friends complained about being completely unable to find any for her daughter I didn't realize how ridiculously bad it is. There's really basically nothing outside of the collector's edition statues and the funko pop big-head toys.
I'd say "how the heck is there not a Kamala Khan toy" but I know the answer is "Ike Perlmutter"

There should be a Kamala Khan version of Stretch Armstrong.

There's like an active campaign against female superhero toys. When they made Green Lantern TAS, they weren't supposed to make a female main character because the toy company wouldn't make an action figure for a female character. So they got around that by making the Interceptor's AI female so they could have Aya. Plus there's the fact that they never made a Korra action figure even though the franchise is wildly popular.

Like, wasn't Marvel Select specifically marketed as a collectors line because you can't have female action figures?

What was it, like 14 Aangs, and no Kataras or Tophs?
like, do eight-year-old boys look at them and go ew, no, girls, gross. i hate girls. we are indoctrinated with misogyny at a young age
what is that even about, really. how do we even get away with beginning to teach people that femininity is shameful before they have learnt to talk
The only toy figures I really collected as a kid were Power Rangers. I can't remember if they made the girls but I want to say they did and I had them.

And the 1602 Guardians ended up being pretty pointless

Huh

Oh christ he finally brought the Spider-Mobile back
Slott actually brought that up a lot during his various comics through the years so I imagine he'll have Spidey say he took lessons or something
Like they have been teasing this whole WHO IS THE TRAITOR IN OUR RANKS thing and blacking out the figure on the cover
And surprise it is the only sometimes super villain on our team who is also a trickster god, who could have seen that coming
"I watched a few episodes of Initial D so I know exactly what I'm doing!"
*crash*
"Alright, I'm not."
if so, I am not a fan of the costume redesign
the last panel?
I want to talk about the mashup pages
Pluto was a planet and I'll never forget
His spider-sense should make him an insanely good driver
Driving probably makes his spider sense go off like mad.
Plus I imagine random jerking motions from dodging "danger", probably aren't conducive to not hitting other cars.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards Darth Vader as the winner. And that IS including how incredible Wicked and Divine was, yes.
Seriously, Gillen is fucking killing it on Vader. It's incredible.
Why I fear the ocean.
