Some awards have already been given out, but who gives a shit about them
They don't have a national broadcast where we get to see a bunch of actors get sloppy drunk as a warm up for the awards show they actually care about
If you want to actually care about who got nominated, there's a list here
Or we can just talk about movies we liked way more that didn't get nominated, because everybody knows that no award show will ever nominate a movie that is actually fun for best pic-
I'm sorry, what's that?
Mad Max: Fury Road has been nominated in two different categories?
or just gimme your OP I'll edit the whole thing cos that's the kinda guy I am
This was all I had
It's pretty shit?
Let's get ready for the Golden Globes in the [movie] thread
Award season is almost here folks

Hah, I just googled Video Rental stores in maps around me. Mostly Redbox. just a couple actual rental places. But most of them that weren't Redbox were porno shops.
and I wonder about my neighbors even though I don't have them
but they're listening to every word I say

Non-spoiler opinion: I really liked it. I don't think this Tarantino's best film - not by a long way - but is still a pretty damn good movie.
some spoiler thoughts
Tarantino has really gotten a taste for violence. Like, I'm pretty certain his next film is straight up gonna be a slasher flick.
Also how has the man still not gotten over the n-word.
The interval was unexpected and got a laugh out of me. I have to say it was perfect place to have one though.
The snow-shoe angel wings for Daisy had me rolling my eyes a bit. Like reeaaaallly
The music was fantastic, though that was to be expected.
I enjoy the contrast between this and Reservoir Dogs.
They're pretty similar stories both in terms of setting & scale, but whoa has Tarantino changed in how he handles it
Overall I enjoyed the hell out of it. Tarantino is really good at making a long-ass film that keeps me gripped the whole way through
Anyone ever remember seeing a movie made sometime before the 1990s where someone was tied to a table and the pendulum blade came down on their neck?
I asked this before in a H/A thread and I'm trying to figure out if I actually saw this my parents didn't know my 5 or 6 year old self was in the room or if my brain filled in the details from some other movie.
Google tells me the majority of movies have the blade come down on the torso, so I'm thinking its more me being crazy.
Which is the better star trek movie. Wrath of khan or voyage home?
Khan is the better movie. Voyage Home is the better Star Trek movie in that it's most like a Star Trek story.
In an unrelated note, I'm at intermission of a pretty amazing play called The Flick about three people who work at a movie theater. If you've ever been insecure, freaked out, anxious, lonely, totally obsessed with movies, afraid of connecting with people, afraid of not connecting with people, or generally a weirdo, you'll probably love this. I was dreading coming to see a three hour play but now I think it might be the best play I've ever seen.
Enjoyed Hateful Eight a lot for the most part. It was beautifully shot and some very entertaining performances from pretty much everyone except Michael Madsen. Good grief he stuck out like a sore thumb, such a shame.
I don't think I've ever disliked Michael Madsen in a movie
The movies themselves may have been shit, but he always brought a certain something to the table
I really liked The Revenant; easily my favorite Iñárritu film, probably the only one of his that I actually enjoyed if we're being honest.
The trailers sell this as a revenge movie, but that's not really accurate. It's a survival movie, Castaway except colder and with more brutality.
Everything about this movie was slow; the entire middle section literally moved at a crawl, with DiCaprio spending a good hour and a half grunting his way through the muck and snow, half dead and no clear goal in mind.
But where this slowness really payed off for me was the anticipation, individual scenes were so deliberately paced that you had time to see exactly what fucked up thing DiCaprio was going to have to do, mentally process it while still questioning if that was even possible, then react with a wince once it actually happened.
It helps that this movie is beautiful. The landscape shots are amazing (I wish this was the 70mm film instead of Hateful Eight) and worth seeing on the biggest screen possible.
Also the opening sequence features the best action scene of the year outside of Fury Road, holy shit was that scene cool.

I believe in you, FAQ.
That soundtrack is so good though man.
Probably worth watching just for that.

And someone made the point that Monty Python and the Holy Grail was the best DnD film.
And I would argue that!
I would say nay and propose that the best DnD film, even if it isn't set in a medieval setting, is the 90's the Mummy.
by a wide margin
What
I will probably make the mummy.
Or jurassic Park.
But I didn't ever like jurassic Park much.
I'm also full of antihistamines.
it is the best alan quatermain movie
The movies themselves may have been shit, but he always brought a certain something to the table
Tombstone is awesome
Wrath of Kahn is the better of those two, largely because Voyage Home is an embarassment
A mixture of quality opinions in here, though mine are flawless as always
i really like the hokey cannon ones with richard chamberlain
ninety percent of this is because of the backstage stories about literally everyone in those movies hating sharon stone
