That's a basic who's who of most wanted extras. Maybe add Rock, Oswald, Unknown/K9999, May Lee for Korea, and Ash for Japan. Going for DLC makes perfect sense.
For starters, the stream station had every color unlocked for every character. When we reached out to Rachid Koga, the event's main behind-the-scenes man, he informed us that they had one staff member play through Survival Mode on each difficulty to attain said colors.
Those of us who have ground through Survival Mode, even for just our favorite character, know the struggle that is beating all 50 levels of the Hard difficulty. What a testament this was to the amount of effort the organizers were willing to put in to make their event just that much more entertaining.
Poor bastard.

If unlocking colours in SFV is the Dark Souls of character customization, then I think we may have found the Darkest Soul.
Is there really that many people willing to buy it?
Probably not on name recognition alone, but Capcom vs SNK was in the same boat (in the US, anyway). I think if a game has good word of mouth and people know at least a few of the characters in the game, any fighting game has the potential to do decently. The "good word of mouth" part has been really rare lately.
ah yes they have finally filled the vampire slag archetype perfect
*huff**puff*
I heard somebody say vampire slag and got here as soon as I could, what did I miss?
For real though Killer Instinct looks like it's developed into something very cool and at some point I should probably just throw some money at it. Alot of the season 2 and most of the season 3 characters I've seen so far look pretty dope.

Killer Instinct has been surprisingly fun, and the only reason I haven't been playing it more - aside from having an infant to care for - is that I need to get more SFV practice in for Combo Breaker. I will say that the character crisis for me in that game is too real, though. Can't decide on anything.

Same here. I could see going Glacius, Hisako, Tusk, Kim Wu, and Riptor. All for completely different reasons.
Mira is looking great. KI has consistently been hitting their character designs out of the park.
I feel like the Season 3 designs have been spot-on, but there's something about Kim Wu's and Tusk's character models that feels lower in quality compared to the others
I thought it was the Iron Galaxy team slacking off in that department but no Mira looks incredibly well-detailed and has great visual effects going on
And while that image is in poor taste for sure, he and Mike have created hypemeister personas. They can make good content but they need to back it up with good placing in tournaments if they wanna push it.

oh shit that was Du that gave us the suicide-watch scare. FFFFUUUUU I had forgotten all about that yet I stood inches from him at PAX and was too shy to tell him he's my Nash hero and was my Guile hero in 4.
Well, the idea ain't that original. Korea has its eSport channel. One as far as I know.
And the West being bigger helps. But is the content produced worthy of people's time? I don't want to watch MOBA replays and talk shows "slash" podcasts with failed actors and comedians shilling the latest benefactor.

yeah I think that's definitely an issue. Like, people who are into League (for example) probably don't care about DOTA, Counterstrike, or Hearthstone. So how do you divide the programming up in a way that pleases enough watchers to keep the network going? Traditional sports also tend to have leagues or rankings and a central authority handling scheduling while only a few eSports have matured to that point. I mean, most fighting game events are just "someguy" throwing together a tournament for love of the game and they can few and far between (or jam-packed together) as far as calendar dates go.
Yeah, if the FGC goes eSports the broadcasters are gonna set rules. SFV top 8 at 10 PM? GTFO!
So some people are gonna have to get close to the sponsors if they want to be part of the process. Valle is doing WNF in an eSports Arena with brands like Cyberpower and SFV Crash is hosted in Nexon Arena. Red Bull eColosseum next?
The players definitively want more cash in their pockets. The other day when I was watching RBK I started thinking of Lacoste (cuz France) and I pictured big clothing brands helping design the uniforms for teams. Even the faceplates for the arcade sticks. Marketing stunts and all.
Many people are gonna bend over backwards to get that sweet cash.
Infiltration is putting in the work. But other than his finances (and a little Starcraft envy ), he has a political goal in mind IMO.
I feel the FGC has a ceiling. I don't think there are that many arcade sticks being sold.
EDIT: ESL getting a TV channel after the issue with YouPorn, Daigo talking to Harvard Business Review and team Echo Fox. Oh boy!
Hope it's not a bubble.

Listening to Juicebox gush about KoF is always fun. Last time, he brought up some interesting points about why he prefers it to Street Fighter, and what he compares it to.
For him, with Tekken--and it goes for most 3D fighters--it was all about being proficient at the game itself, at its systems and mechanics. A good 3D fighting game player can win with any character, because they're just better at the game itself, and because there are a lot of universal tools. Compared to Street Fighter, where the tools are far more segregated, King of Fighters is closer to a 3D fighter because of that. Most characters can do most things, just to different degrees of proficiency, so it's far more important to be good at KoF's particular mechanics (short hop offence, the different techs and rolls, etc.) than it is to be really good with a specific character.
Not to say that each character doesn't have his or her distinct mechanics and variances, or that Street Fighter doesn't have some universal options, but it was a neat discussion.
