And that's why you always make it hit on 0's, kids!
Snipers with MSV through smoke, or with TO Camo or ODD or whatever. Even Camo and Surprise Shot! Just don't let that bastard roll four dice. They will roll a 2, and you will be sad.
Another question while I'm here; how do grenade launchers work? From what I'm reading, you can just annihilate anything on the map from anywhere on the map with little to no recourse?

Speculative Fire gets the weapons normal range band modifiers, with an additional -6. The -6 can be avoided by Targetting the enemy first. But you've still got your range band modifiers.
It's pretty order intensive for most factions to set up lots of Tartgetting bonuses for a grenade launcher to speculatively destroy a lot of targets.
The likely result is you will spend your whole turn making it look 'easy'to kill a model or two from behind a building and from then on, and every subsequent game ever, that opponent just destroys your grenade launcher equipped models first.
Grenade launchers are on the list of things that sound incredible but aren't very practical.
They're order intensive as fuck and prone to spending a whole turn missing.
If you spend a whole turn (or heck, even half a turn) not moving units and purely shooting a grenade launcher to get one or two kills and your opponent isn't winning then there's something weird going on.

Speculative Fire is one of those opportunity abilities. You've got a dude with a smoke grenade launcher behind a building and someone needs cover, it might be worth the order trying to lay smoke, or if you're on one last order and there's an enemy over a wall and you otherwise just can't get him, it might be worth the order trying to lob a grenade over. Basing your tactics around doing it as your main offensive output just isn't a good idea.

There's also situations where you are making models targeted for other reasons
Then it just becomes one order

Which, again, is an opportunistic opening.
I wasn't talking about orders there, just that you generally use speculative fire opportunistically. You don't plan around it, that's how you make it order intensive.

Alright guys, planning my expansion to the Yu Jing in Red Veil. Objective - 300pts, generally an all comers list. Not trying to be competitive, just trying to stick to new models. My plan is to actually, you know, plan this time. Including colours. I'm buying some Reaper triads to make the colours easier. I've already got my bases planned and am buying them this week. Planned additional models:
Su Jian, Zi Xhuang (from Dire Foes 6) and a Tiger Soldier Spitfire. However, I did see @Asher over on the official boards mention something I totally didn't consider, having 3 models start off board. Of course I could have one Tiger start deployed or the Ninja deployed in Token state, but I'd rather not rely on doing that.
So! I need help. I need one extra model in the Tiger Spitfires range band that is: not old (I want to stick with new sculpts), not in a box (I want to avoid boxes until I actually want the whole or majority of the box to keep model counts down) and not something that has special deployment.
So far I've been considering a Kanren to fill that gap.
I have an update on this! I haven't seen it myself but my friend who got it reports:
Holy crap that cardboard terrain is a pain to clean. Brett and I worked on it for 6 or 7 hours yesterday and got about half of the stuff trimmed and de-sooted.
It's nice terrain and cheap, cost for using heavy cardboard vs. MDF is that the laser leaves soot everywhere.
So yeah. Sounds like it's totally fine as long as you're okay with the up-front cleanup time.
Ooh, Guilang FO is practically a no brainer in a vanilla list.
They're boxes but the attack drone duo are both stellar so that might work.
Hsien HMG is in Red Veil, so I have it. Dao Fei and Guilang are both old sculpts which I don't want. Hsien and Dao Fei are also both twice the points I'm looking for? Remotes - I'm happy to wait and see if they get resculpts.

Sounds doable. The only thing that's fighting it is ZenTerrain, but they don't have a sweet bundle.
I really need to get off my ass and work on my Forward Base kickstarter stuff. The idea was to get it all painted and weathered, but by now I might just settle for "assembled".

That would work. That leaves me on 5 points left but I could always proxy a Zanshi as a Yisheng to get a Doctor on the field.
However, I'm still leaning towards the Kanren. I will already have an MSV2 HMG HI and a super mobile Spitfire HI so I think I have firepower covered. I think a tricky unit like a holo 2 Kanren would add more.

@admanb
Out of curiosity, what is the "cleaning" needed? I am not super familiar with the laser cut stuff.
Was considering getting it, and making some minor modifications to maybe use it for warmachine terrain.

Quoting my friend:
Well, trim out of sprue with xacto, wipe down edges with (dry) paper towel, blow off excess soot with airbrush. That was my procedure anyway.
I can probably get a can of compressed air instead of the airbrush.
If you live in America, check your local Harbor Freight. They sell compressed air for cheap ($1), and often have crazy discounts on portable (5lb, pug sized) air compressors. My dad bought a whole set of compressor, cleaners, droppers, and three air brushes for $100; next month it was on sale for $40.
edit: Pretty much this, but a different brand. Individual stores have different deals, and I adored the thing when I had access to it.

I've been hearing rumours of a 'TAG pilot' month, which is why we got the O-Yoroi pilot render, and rumbles about a Gecko pilot. Also about TAG pilots becoming specialists. That would be a nice way to make purposely dismounting something you actually want to do. Though PanO and EI/Onyx would be left out unless they made their actual TAGs specialists, which I don't see happening since TAG (particularly Avatars) Lt's is the reason they stopped Lt's count as specialists.

Went to the FLGS to grab my Yu Jing bases and some Uniform Grey primer to get started on painting my terrain. Turns out they had Kanrens in stock. Primer got replaced by a Kanren.
I now just need Dire Foes 6 and a Su Jian to have a 300pt Yu Jing force.

Also, I realised I have Miranda Ashcroft and have never used her. While I'm waiting for Dire Foes 6, I'm going to substitute Xi Zhuang with Miranda. She's Irregular, but combi rifle and ODD seems really nasty in suppressive fire holding a point.

I ended up ordering a Warsenal Studio B for my growing terrain collection. Unfortunately I had to buy it from their website because it's a gencon exclusive and they just had stock left over. So I ended up paying about $75au in shipping on top of the $125au for the building. But look at it. Look at it.

What excited me most is they say it's the first in their new range of 'Alcazaba' Haqqislam terrain. If we get something as extensive as their Cosmica, Commanche and Infinite terrain sets but all looking like that I'll be so happy. I love the Caliphs Gardens set from Plastcraft, but so far we haven't gotten anything that could look like an actual city on Bourak.

I hadn't gotten shipping confirmation, so I emailed them. They said my building was being cut and shipped today.
Except the website says that a limited number were cut and once sold there would be no more. I'm confused. Either they're replacing damaged parts or it's actually more of a limited time thing than a limited production thing.
Anyway, I got my Su Jian. I always see 40mm based models and think they're enormous. I was disappointed with the size of the Azra'il when I first got one. The Su Jian is similar. It's big, bout the size of a Yan Huo, but for some reason I was thinking it would be bigger.

I need to stop looking at infinity models, I keep wanting to buy and paint them. But I don't want to actually play them, because I dislike the orders system. ><
In short, please tell them to stop creating such amazing looking models, it's not fair.

Anyone know where this started?
The one ALEPH TAG is yeah
He said that my product would be made next week, shipped on the 23rd, and it takes 4-5 business days. So, expect pictures at the end of the month!

Yeah seems this is the punishment for two female rifle LI. Sausagefest SWC box.
