Yes, PI, you're so edgy for not liking superhero comics, I get it
Way to make a statement based off of nothing.
If by nothing you mean culled from all your posts where you say you don't read superhero comics, not to mention that one post where you nagged everyone for not responding to something you posted because it didn't involve superheroes, and the inference one can make based off of that and you calling the recommendation page shit (in which the majority of recommendations are superhero titles)
But for the most part all his superhero stuff is exactly the same.
The man clearly does not like superheros which is fine I just wish they would stop giving him high profile superhero titles.
I'll agree that almost all of Warren Ellis' characters all seem to be the same. But he keeps getting high profile superhero titles because he has the ability to come up with new ideas and situations to throw the characters into, unlike so many other writers today.

I hope Thunderbolts isn't supposed to be an example of this.
Ooooh look, Norman Osborn is crazy! Venom and Bullseye are killing people! How edgy!
And for a bonus Songbird and Radioactive Man are acting completley out of character!
The art was nice though

i remember hearing some Ellis audio thing where he was making fun of DC wanting him to write Deadman because Deadman's an uncreative character and that's pretty fucking retarded

I'm using Planetary and The Authority as good examples. Plus Nextwave, which I thought was really good. Thunderbolts only recently started reading and I like it. Its more than just Osborn is crazy; Its Osborn as a government official enforcing the law and keeping the members of his team from killing each other on a daily basis.
I don't read superhero books because most of them are serials with no end. I tend to like endings and a focused premise. So my problem with superhero books is with the format, not with the genre. I happen to like a quite a few superhero books, most of them being limited series.
Earlier I was complaining about my comments being ignored was because the direction of the thread, not about my tastes. I find it frustrating that people would rather talk about some cartoon that hasn't had new episodes in months over a fantastic new series that you can read for free. I like Scalped, that doesn't mean I've got it in for Batman.
I'm bad mouthing the front page because it's organized poorly has almost no standards. A long list defeats the purpose of having a list in the first place. It should be concise.
The only complaint I have with Ellis is his lack of range, lately. He is utterly incapable of writing in a "voice" outside of his own. Take Norman Osborne in Thunderbolts, for example.
Or Doktor Sleepless. Or any dialogue in Black Summer.
That's partly because I think people expect that voice, he gets paid to use that voice, and doesn't really feel the need to challenge himself, really.

He changes his voice sometimes, Frank Ironwine from his Apperat oneshot for example (save for that opening page self parody.) and Fell sounds like a normal guy trapped in a city full of Ellis characters.
Some complain that Ellis has sold out by going mostly work-for-hire, but with the way he keeps talking about his health going into the shitter, I think he just preparing for the future for his girlfriend/wife(?) and daughter. He makes good money from it and he wants to provide some financial stability for them if the worst should happen.
All a guess, mind. He could be buying new organs online and outlive us all.

Ellis took Frank Ironwine and turned him into Desolation Jones. Which needs some new issues to be released already, damnit.

That brilliant bastard.
Who was he using as a Hitler analog?

then yes
off of nothing.

Thunderbolts is bad yes
I havent read any Authority
and of course Planetary is good but thats Ellis doing his own thing.
Let me rephrase then, Ellis' Marvel superhero stuff is pretty bad
I hope Thunderbolts isn't supposed to be an example of this.

Deal?
Because there's a lot of people floating around here that have terrible ideas in their heads.
Or Doktor Sleepless. Or any dialogue in Black Summer.
Surprise me for once, goddamn it!

That was some shit right there.

ETA - Redi assures me that what I have just said has nothing at all to do with what Jordyn is talking about. Whatever.
It might be related, then
The last arc with J'onn was good though, and now we are fucking done with that book.

I didn't like NMoH. Though Ellis did do a nice job with Lois and Clark.
The bad guy of the story just seemed to be a more talky version of the nano-robot from his episode of JLU.
And while not Ellis' fault, those covers were horrid.

They just need to pick up on the ending.
Hopefully Morrison will do that sometime in Final Crisis.
Ha ha ha.
No really, I was talking about the similarity in the concepts involved being odd.
Thanks for playing.
What?
Four volumes containing the entire collection, and they are in the order they are supposed to be read.
How is that poor?
thanks for taking a silly joke seriously and getting all huffy about it
way to be
Then Ellis came, called everyone names, and said Morrison was better.
No problem.
