One thing that is making my current job search hard is that most HR people are too stupid to understand that my resume contains uncommonly valuable litigation experience
If they understand the best thing I've got on my resume, then generally they give it to a managing partner and the partner wants to interview me
Otherwise, I get some nonsensical email about how they think I have no litigation experience
ooh what's your litigation experience!
mainly, a federal clerkship
a few other things too
I wouldn't normally associate federal clerkship with actually doing litigation, was it different than a usual judge clerk thing?
I thought maybe you would say something like that and that maybe I should hedge my words in advance
I guess I'm tired of hedging my words, underselling myself, struggling to find work? -_-
I think your average former federal clerk is going to be a better litigator than your average 1-year associate
My heart aches at the thought of arguing with you -_-
Hey I'm not trying to discount you, to me litigation experience just means you litigated cases in some fashion, so if someone said they did a clerkship I would not equate that with litigation experience.
Now does it make you a better candidate that someone without that experience? Sure I think a case can be made since you may be more exposed to daily court goings on or observing trials, etc. Hopefully your judge can write you a kickass letter too?
Today I had a client refer to a federal clerkship as being a year long job interview, which kind of makes sense.
What district did you work kedinik?

No shit? At Phillip Burton?

How funny. Did a lot of work down there in front of Fogel in the past.

Sometimes it works against me because I actually mean to be flippant and yet whatever goddamned ridiculous thing I just said gets believed regardless and when I explain the joke it's super awkward and I have to just pull out immediately
Oh no, this episode of The Next Generation has them visiting Deep Space Nine but I haven't started re-watching DS9 yet, I have ruined my precious Western hold on canonical chronology.

But yeah that sounds like a vet visit.

But they are universally far less shitty about eating at designated times, and are always fucking joyful when the food comes out.
It's never "oh, its about time you fucking slave" its more of a "fuck YES num nums!"

Are you a New Mexico
For some reason I associate you with New Mexico, but I'm not sure if that's because you necessarily live there
Yeah I think he left in '10 or '11 to head the federal judicial center. V smart man.
I believe he's an Arizona, though he may also have previous New Mexican ties too.
He does feel vaguely ... Southwestern.
Certainly he has that desert-bug vibe
I'm going to start telling people that I teach pole dancing for a living.
Now, I know what you're thinking. You're thinking "dear God, no, Drez, no, no, no, no, no! Jesus Christ, what is wrong with you?!?!"
But that's not the question.
When they ask me where my studio is, should my response be:
1) "What studio?"
2) "In my pants."
3) Casually point downward.
well kittens are pretty cute
The first one, but slightly modified. Just say "Studio?" and look kind of bemused.
They protect the grain from mice.
They make me sneeze something fierce
Yes, I like that.

Oh god this whole conversation is falling apart.
Oh I am very deadpan and way too convincing.

Man I miss characters like the Rock
Every time I catch wrestling these days I walk away realizing no one I just watched is very memorable at all
all three but with a slight pause between each answer
This conversation is what the book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe was about.
More or less.
In your my pants.

I'm pointing downward but you're on the internets so you can't see it.
