Lateral transfer packet still is not done being signed. It needs to be in Lancaster ASAP and instead what should have taken a few days at most is now clocking past three weeks. I'm going to have to grab it as soon as it's done and take it to the post office for a super rush delivery because I do not trust this place to get it out in a timely manner.

Meanwhile I'm trying to convince myself to play nice with the Trump coworkers who keep having loud discussions on opposite sides of cubicle partitions about their god-king's latest whoopsy.

Two more days. Monday I out-process and Tuesday I have an interview up in San Bernardino so I get that entire day paid without costing any PTO. The interview is at 12:40, I'll be done probably around 1:30, and then it's maybe an hour's drive to my parents' place where I'll be crashing until I get out of my current lease down here and find a new apartment in Lancaster. This weekend I need to buckle down and pack up as much as I possibly can and toss out whatever I don't need or want. Only essentials are coming with me on Tuesday, everything else will wait until end of March by which time I will hopefully have negotiated an early end to the annual lease.

New job got, can't wait to tell my old one I'm leaving.

Also got and email from another company who received my resume and is looking to talk to me. If it wasn't for this headache I'd say its a pretty swell day.

I mentioned that I would be subbing again next year to my parents earlier today and naturally that lead to them harassing me about not having a real job & almost being thirty & I'm a child.

You know, all that regular stuff.

It was my fault really, I should have just distracted them with talk of Dungeons & Dragons or the X-Men.

Regarding my long-term plans I do want to get certified so I can teach, but the program I'd want stops accepting applicants in April. So I'd have to get all my stuff ready to apply and pass the WEST-E & the WEST-B. And I didn't see myself being able to accomplish all of that in two months (I also wanted to try to apply for some scholarships to cut off that fat tuition bill).

So the plan at the moment is to open myself up to two or three more local school districts starting next year and apply come January of 2018.

Oh fuck them subbing isn't "a real job".

My parents won't consider anything a real job if it doesn't carry health/dental benefits & retirement options.

Fewer and fewer jobs, less each day, are offering health/dental. Retirement is fairly common, but rarely more complex than an IRA or 401k (which anyone can start to a similar effect).

Dude, I'm sorry. This is a hilariously small modern world view.

You keep fighting the good fight. Being a transient educator is not easy. Not a real job, my ass.

So the saga of that Puerto Rican guy came to a close this evening. He got brought in on second shift at 3 PM, and he was out the door by 5.

Turns out not only can he not comprehend English, but he is also illiterate, so he is incapable of doing paperwork or reading any warning signs.

    Oh well!

And in other Hispanic employee news (is it obvious that I'm having a slow night for once?) one of the drawing operators took vacation this week to fly back to Mexico to get his wife and daughter now that he had finally completed the paperwork to bring them legally to the US.

He and his family are now being refused entry back into the country. He's a green card holder, and his family now have completed paperwork that allows them entry, but the response at the border has been essentially a snide "get fucked."

He's in contact with a lawyer about the situation and the company is doing the right thing for once and is giving him a lot of leeway on missed days because of this. While I can't say I miss him being gone (he doesn't possess what you could call a strong work ethic), I don't want to see him and his family stuck back in cartel country back in Mexico.

My supervisor's daughters are going to SC State here, and they share an apartment with two Brazilian sisters who also go to the school. Usually when classes let out for a while, my supervisor's kids fly down to Brazil and stay with their roommates for about six weeks or so, which saves a couple months rent.

Now, the Brazilians' parents are refusing to let them come home for fear they won't be let back into the country, as they aren't being allowed in here either.

The admin that was mad that she was getting in trouble for taking two hour lunches and hanging up on people is officially leaving.

She put in her two weeks today which makes her last day March 10th.

The hilarious thing is that her supervisor left today for vacation and won't be back until March 6th. So the admin just CC'ed the director of the department on the e-mail to her supervisor. I'm considering this a win for multiple reasons.

I mean at least it had diagrams.

I've been helping my boss with two bum wrists out by working on a Powerpoint for/with him (and he just told me that his bosses actually don't want it anymore, so that was just a waste of time) and it turns out blocks of text are rarely interesting to look at in slide format.

Of course, you add some colors, some bullet points, space stuff out and put it on two slides instead of one, and it looks way better.

Ok, I know that the metric system is not the usual measuring system in the US
And I know that our education system leaves a lot to be desired, and that not everyone knows how far to move a decimal place when doing metric conversions.
    But there is the internet.
And if you're a sales manager in the freight industry, I really think you shouldn't have to send an email to request a conversion FROM MILLIMETERS TO CENTIMETERS!

    Goddamn, my head hurts now.

    Still!

It occurs to me after the fact that they may have just not wanted to do the work, and by sending it back to us, when it went back to them, it would be assigned to someone else.

This reminds me of a traumatic mediation experience.

150 all text slides (plus 25 full slide pictures of property and maps and a single video) for a total of 176 slides. We had the law as written, quite a few supporting multiple cases and, of course, relevant parts of the decision all thrown in. The lawyer was "confused" by technology so I had to sit behind the projection screen and hit a button every time they said "next slide". As a consolation, they were reading every word on the slide so the day went by like a snail.

So I wanted to check up on a clients website today to see wether they had implemented some changes in regards to protecting their trademark. I innocently typed in <companyname>.com instead of their .dk address and was promptly re-routed to a hardcore porn website. That's going to be a fun conversation with my superiors tomorrow.

Oh yeah, that's always a good time. There was an airline cargo phone number that was a digit off from a sex talk line, so at least once a month, someone would have to go to a boss to tell the manager that they hadn't meant to dial hot oral or whatever it was

I could somewhat understand it if it were a similar sounding website, but as it stands it's a rerouting from the website address to a completely different site. It's kinda of a big problem as this company does a lot of business in the US. I'll have to find out tomorrow if it's an cybersquatter (which opens a whole new can of worms) or if the company haven't bothered to register the .com address.

They didn't bother to register the .com address.

I don't know which company we're talking about, but they didn't bother to register the .com address.
