Well that sucks.
How often do you get strep? Also do you still have your tonsils? I had a coworker who was getting strep multiple times a year for years on end and finally a doctor said it was probably staying in her tonsils and had her get them removed. Since then, no strep.
I went to school in a suburb in Colorado.
800 or so in my graduating class, 3k or so in my school. Most of the schools in the Denver suburbs were similar.
If that's all there is my friends, then let's keep dancing
Internal Help Desk job posting. Had a few IT folks suggest I apply again, and I will!
I still don't have the requirements (degree), but I do have the year+ work experience, I think. Just need to take another look at my resume. I've got more hope this time around, the previous manager never even considered me, but the newer one asked around.

But I'll say it again. We need a strep vaccine.
At least once a year. I have GIGANTIC tonsils. Always have but they wouldn't take them out when I was a kid.

What about now? Have you brought it up with a doctor? Could be a persistent infection or three in there. Though of course I'm not a doctor and even if I was I couldn't really diagnose over the internet.

You know, the funny thing is, as chronically ill as I am, I haven't gotten a run-of-the-mill illness in nearly 20 years. No strep or fever* or even a head cold. It's the flip side of my condition.
*Fevers yes when administered by the hospital long story.

I think my high school graduating class was around 100 people. Private Christian prep-school so 100% graduation and college acceptance rate (I think one or two people went to military academies).
My college graduating class was 10-12 people and we started with maybe 15. I wish I was better about keeping in touch with people because we were a pretty tight knit group for those 4 years. My closest friend is one of them but I've completely lost touch with everyone else.

Isn't your condition the one where you immune system is such a ravenous monster that it ran out of other things to murder so it started in on your insides?
Before following any advice, opinions, or thoughts I may have expressed in the above post, be warned: I found Keven Costners "Waterworld" to be a very entertaining film.
Welp, my hours have been changed permanently from the 7-3:30 that I signed up for on my contract to mandatory 7-5. Saturdays are likely each week as well.
I am suddenly missing my old job.
uh, are you at least getting paid for all that additional time?
I absolutely am getting overtime pay, but that's a lot of overtime, combined with a 110-mile round trip commute.

Yup! I'm even on immunosuppresants, to the point where I am 'technically' immune system compromised (like, the same kind of drugs that they would give you pre-transplant). And it's so ravenous, as you said, that it still doesn't give a shit and just eats up foreign bodies like a motherfucker.
Like, I did once get sick. In the ancient long ago. But not anymore.

Dear lord. I know it's straight and flat there but still. You should reallyyy try and move if you can (and I totally get if there are other factors holding you where you are) 2 hrs each day is no joke to your QOL.

Ah, immunosuppressants. What a wonderful bunch of drugs. I wish that I would have known 20 years ago that 20 years of Imuran when combined with my genetics would give me a wonderful batch of skin tags on my goddamn face.
On the subject of grad classes, I think we had 140 in ours. Smallish high school in northern BC. I keep up with none of them. My favourite memory of high school is walking down the aisle on grad day with one of the hottest and most stuck up girls in the grad class. She was less enthusiastic, because due to my medical status I weighed about 120 lbs and was just shy of 6 ft tall. I looked like a holocaust victim.
Garry: I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time I'd rather not spend the rest of the winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!
Damn @DrZiplock that is some real shit your workplace pulled, I'm happy you're getting out of there!
Aw, thanks! You were always one of the biggest supporters back in 2012 when I first took the TG gig.
In related news: I've started telling my employees that they can have off tomorrow. As upper management has not approved such a thing and I am on my way out they're currently working out if this is a game of russian roulette worth playing.
We hired a guy from our IT team onto our dev team a while back. I guess he was going to quit if he didn't get the dev job because he hated IT so much.
Then the other day he mentions he might apply for a corporate IT job that would let him work from home. Guess you don't hate IT that much, do you?

I'm just kinda bitter after he pulled the whole "programming is my passion, it's what I want to do!" thing to get the job despite no education or experience, then got mentored and trained for a few years. Zero chance he would have gotten that elsewhere.
But I totally understand the appeal of working form home. And the guy isn't exactly thriving so maybe he's anticipating a bad review or something. I would understand bailing if that were the case.

It is very much neither straight nor flat. I take the winding back roads to work because they cut 10 miles off my trip while still being the same amount of time as the interstate.
I would like to move as well, but there are indeed factors keeping me at home.

Ah sorry, thought I remembered you were in an area of northern sc that I worked in a while ago.
At work today, recovering from a cold.
Basically holding the fort down while the rest of the employees went to a funeral.
Going pretty good, until one family came it.
$3 faxing of papers. I'm off to the side at the fax machine making sure all the pages are facing the right way, phone number is correct, dial tone is cool, report is A-OK.
Meanwhile the kids grab and shoot rubber bands from the counter (we use them for blueprints)
The older kid, probably 13, has grabbed stamps (like ink stamps for documents) and covered his arm with "paid with Credit" etc.
The younger kid is running around the lobby and production area kicking signage and dodging rubberbands.
I step out and tell them to not run around in the dangerous sign shop, and they basically ignore me.
The mom paid for the $3.18 and complained she didn't want change when she handed me a $20, and I returned $16.82
She gave a $20 & quarter after my brain cooled down, and
I barely passed the simple math of ,25-18 cents, & 20 - 17 dollars.
ok. this is fine. Just keep your kids from the table with scissors and xacto blades.
I have to imagine the older one is just disabled, and doesn't have common sense to not grab with other people's stuff at a business.
Could probably handle it smoothly if not sick.
I'm back to coughing a lung at the shop here. Fuckin' Sucks.

I used to work at home and I wasn't a fan. I like my work to be completely separated from my home life. Also people being able to call you whenever and ask you to do something real quick when you didn't intend to be doing work shit sucks.

I am super firm about work encroaching on my home life.
When I did this I had a separate room that was "work only." And whenever someone called for "something real quick" it was met with "sure just fire off an email I don't have a pen with me." Most of the time I just let it roll to voicemail.
not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me
Training Day 8 today and my executive chef pulls me aside to talk about working nights as soon as I'm free from Old Job; he also rounded out my duties to not just the appetizer (fry) station, but saute and salad stations as well.
Not quite positive yet since it depends on the amount they need done. If it’s something that can be done over the weekend then sure, if not I’m gonna recommend they go offsite.

Am I remembering right that you are at an engineering firm? Is any of this public yet? I'm curious.
It's semi-public
