I just played through the first Phoenix Wright game on my iPad.
does ANYONE think those pixel smoothing options in emulators ever look good? I haven't asked a lot of people but I've also never seen anyone say "yes this looks good I like to use this option"
it feels more like just some throwaway for-fun checkbox some emulator developer threw in once long ago and then every other emulator developer copied it to maintain feature parity and no one stopped to consider whether anyone would ever use it, and then the official emulations of things started being a thing and those developers copied all the easy features they could from the non-commercial emulators.
Like, I totally understand some people don't like low-res sprite graphics. That's fine, it's a matter of taste and also different people engage with highly abstract art differently, on, like, a base visual processing level, so I'm sure for some people it's a legitimately hard visual style to engage with. I get all that. But I can't imagine there are people looking at the same abstract shapes, but now de-edged to the point where everything kind of blurs together and thinks "ah, now I can understand what's going on here"
I picked up Hyrule Warriors and I simply cannot parse everything this map is screaming at me about objectives and whatnot

You can ignore most generic hylian/goron captains when they cry for help. Unless they are marked on the map for a specific mission (like escorting an engineer captain) it's kind of a waste of time to rescue them. They are your meat shields to slow the opposing army. Named zelda character allies are usually mission critical so pay attention to them.

Chucklefish released a statement saying the issue had something to do with the online multiplayer about a year ago, so considering Nintendo doesn’t have a real online service yet aside from a handful of their own games this shouldn’t be all that surprising.

Future Wars definitely has some of yesteryear’s point-n-click frustrations: It has pixel hunting, it’s sometimes easy to die, and it’s easy to progress past myriad points of no return and get yourself into unwinnable game states...but it’s still pretty awesome as point-n-clicks go.

It went from a puzzle-oriented platformer to an emphasis on action, while also making it control like shit. Probably the worst $20 I ever spent on the XBLA.
To top it off, the original version was bundled with it as well, which would've been a saving grace... except that 90% of the audio was missing. It ended up being more disappointing than if the original wasn't included in the first place.
