Swear to god every warriors game has fighting on boats and shitty ai. I swear one of them you had to literally drag an npc across a boat section otherwise they'd never do their objective.

Yeah, I'm doing battle of Chibi right now and it's... interesting. Like, given another iteration the way they have this set up could work better, but it's not a set piece like in previous games. Or rather it's still a set piece, it's just that the scale is too big to fully appreciate it? Like, there are thousands of archers lining the shore (you can death train them them down too), a strong wind effect on flags and flames you can see, but they also did a thing that I like:
They did not force you to do the "SHIPS ON FIRE, ESCAPE THE BOATS" or general fighting on flaming boats sequences because they tend to be janky.

It instead focuses on the ground/shore combat in those missions.

also the boats in this game are kind of meh looking.

One of the Voice Actors talks about about the VO work in the game. His name is Maxwell Chase and he did Li Dian.

TLDR: they (the company that Koei used for the VO localization work had the actors do it blind. The company (VOXX Studios) does dubbing for for television shows and the like. Portugese, Spanish and Japanese dubbing are their specialties.

The pronounciations are all over the place at times because there was no centralized person to manage it, nor was there any people who spoke Chinese as their first language to help either. Though I'd have imagined the Japanese VO would have been done first? IDK.

I wish they could regain their old form, last thing I truly enjoyed from them was Bladestorm.

Any more, I'm convinced that Koei translates to Clusterfuck.

Bladestorm was pretty great (also available on Steam if anybody wants it), and I thoroughly enjoyed the last Warriors Orochi game on the PS4.

Given the lessons they've hopefully learned during the development and reception of DW9, I'd love to see an open world Empires game.

DW8 is still a really cool game. The What-if story alt-history scenarios if you saved your people from dying at their fated points were really cool

If you've played Bladestorm: Nightmare, the mission flow of the Nightmare mode in that game. Though with mercifully fewer escort type missions.

Not quite a Warriors game, but has anyone played that newish Berserk game on the PS4? If so, thoughts?

    Warriors Orochi 4 any good?

It's a solid Warriors title. It doesn't have any of the nonsense of DW 9, so that's good.

On the other hand, so far it doesn't really have anything to make it stand out particularly. It's got its huge cast of characters, a magic system of sorts, and because the story's not tied to history you won't have to fight the battles you fight in every Dynasty and Samurai Warriors.

I'm playing on Switch and the performance is pretty good (to my eyes). I'm assuming the game works better on more powerful systems.

So... yeah. Nothing totally outstanding. But if you like Warriors, you'll like this, I'm thinking.

While I know that most of you moved on or never played it... it's worth noting that enough people have and do still play Dynasty Warriors 9 that it is still supported.

And the latest patch has brought in... co-op mode, both online and offline:

in what can only be described as a disconnect between internet opinions and game populations... Dynasty Warriors 9 is still being updated.
    Title Update Ver.1.19(Xbox One)
    Release date:12/25/2018
    • Added BGM from a previous title from the DYNASTY WARRIORS series.
    • Added new wallpaper.
    • Added new powerful enemies.
    • Added new battle features "Break" and "Trigger Attack (Nullify)".
    • Added a new feature to edit emotes, and added new emotes to the Coin Collector.
    • Improved the sorting feature.
    • Improved the positioning of camps.
    • Corrected an issue in which officers did not move correctly on ships.
    • Corrected a number of other minor issues.

I have to see how the officers react on ships now, but I'll miss those free kills.

Those are hte december update notes, but it updated like... just now for me, and those are the most recent xbox notes I could find... I had that update; it's like 1.2.2.5 on xbox now.

Well, I... guess I appreciate their continued support for a game that probably performed below expectations, but...

Look, just start working on DW 10 already.

Or port DW 7: Empires to Steam. I'll happily buy that.

After the travesty that was DW9 I feel like Omgea Force needs to have another studio acting as a babysitter to ensure they don’t drop the ball.

Why not? It couldn't be more of an nonsensical retread than what they're doing with Narrative and OH GOD ITS THE COLONY DROP BUT IN ULTRA HDR 4K THIS TIME.

edit: I think Narrative is okay. But still.

After Orochi 4, I kinda want a Greek or Norse mythology Warriors game.

There kind of has been a Greek Warriors game. Warriors: Legends of Troy. It was made by Tecmo KOEI Canada and was a bit slower and more... thoughtful?... than your standard Dynasty Warriors.

It's because of this game that Achilles was in Orochi 3. Which just makes his absence in Orochi 4 all the more mysterious.

Woah woah, what system was that on? I've never heard of it before.

I remember that Spartan: Total Warrior game, which was similar to a Warriors style thing, but not exactly the same.

Legends of Troy was on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Although if I'm reading Wikipedia right, in North America it was only released on the PS3? That's odd.

so... uh... they are still updating DW9. Apparently this update improves on the flow of castle attacking/defense missions, adds more emotes, and lets you wear the civie outfits in combat (if you befriend and do a quest for the person), plus has more BGMs...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujxqLQabAxo

They also pushed out 2 sets of hypothetical story scenarios, fully voiced and etc (they are paid season passes) but jeez:

Season Pass contents (a set of):
    16 Costumes
    6 Weapons
    4 Scenarios
    4 Scenario costumes
    +Bonus

The tail on this on this game is insane.

edit: also at some point they added the ability to capture animals and have them fight alongside you, and pick officers as bodyguards.

    edit2: fixed link

I just saw the Dynasty Warriors movie on Netflix.

It’s 2 hours long, not enough combat, and at the end Dong Zhou and Lu Bu are still alive, and they just say “and the saga of the 3 kingdoms is about to begin.
It wasn’t too good in my opinion; Guan Yu’s beard was not impressive enough, and it really is as if you’ve played the 3 first missions of any Dynasty Warriors game (Yellow Turban, Hulao Pass, Burning of Lyongang).

When the combat goes bonkers, it really goes bonkers

It was nice to recognize most characters as their DW equivalent (though Cao Cao only gets his moustache in the last 5 minutes).

Dong Zhou doesn’t throw bombs (yet), so 2/10, fail,

Playing DW itself is more enjoyable, and Red Cliff is a far Far superior movie.

Because it only saw limited theatrical release outside of China and the version that went international was chopped all to hell to fit a less than 2.5 hour runtime. If you like the setting and like Woo its very much worth it to track down the uncut version (all 4+ hours of it) which has seen blu-ray release in North America and Europe.

Yeah, the uncut version of Red Cliff is great. It’s on two different discs, as the movie was in two parts which were released as seperate movies.
So if you see a Dvd/Blu-ray labeled as “Part 1 and 2”, it’s probably the 2-disc version.
