I do want to mention that I do appreciate that Matt uses his platform to boost and give work to marginalized creators and generally try to be decent to folks

I had heard that Paige had some shitty views but I always figured they were harmlessly shitty in the way that some people in positions of privilege or shelter can be. I had no idea that guy she talked about the end of the last podcast was straight up cartoon evil
I'd sooner eat glass than support someone who freely and willingly associates with nazis, so... boy I guess that limits how much I can watch Pat's stuff
I was kinda stunned to hear that the Best Friends are no longer friends, and that definitely stings the most out of all this, but given that they're ending a bunch of LPs mid-stream and how sudden this feels (and it coming one week after Paige plugged the Dick Show) I can't help but wonder what made them have to break up right now as opposed to giving time for certain things to finish
I haven't been a long time fan but I've always kinda liked Matt the most, so I'll definitely be following his stuff at least. I hope eventually they can reconcile, not to get the band back together but at least enough to be regular friends again
Paige definitely strikes me as someone who is privileged and removed enough from certain realities that she doesn't get what the whole big to do is. She's probably not a terrible person herself, but she definitely associates with some absolutely horrid people. I think she and Pat also are the sort of people to dig in their heels when people tell them they shouldn't do something or associate with certain people. It creates a bizarre situation where you have two people who are probably pretty good, who defend shitty people and shitty stances. I've sadly had people like this in my own life, and it can be absolutely maddening seeing a decent person twist logic to justify being a bit shitty for absolutely no reason.
It's complicated and frustrating to say the least, and it does make me very wary of supporting them or watching them.
Like, I like to think Pat is just based on how he's publicly reacted to things in the past but... I dunno.
Again I'm not gonna condemn someone to the gutter without hard evidence but I'm probably not gonna watch stuff... at least not stuff featuring Paige in the future.
Pat's done a lot of good for us by virtue of putting out things we enjoyed for a very long time; he was a part of the team that helped me, and I think probably more than a couple of the folks in this thread, through some dark times; that one would want to assume well of him is, I think, really natural
But that don't mean supporting him so long as he stands up and says "hey let people associate with abominable assholes without having to interrogate that, why should we care who someone knows" which isn't a perfect quote of his twitter storm from a while back (that I found very confusing at the time) but captures the spirit of it more or less

That's fair. I think part of this is my brain going, "This person can't be awful. You've been entertained by them before", which of course makes no sense. I think I'm still processing some of this. It's a lot to take in at once.
Edit: Either way, I think I'm going to take a break from anything Paige related for a while.
I've watched quite a bit of Paige's content, and she is a person who is a bit hard to read.
She's very positive about issues of LGBT and stuff but at the same time she seems to lean a bit anti-feminist. She has a very privileged, centrist "I listen to all sides what's wrong with that?" kind of attitude. She is resistant to really thinking about this stuff beyond the surface level and gets really defensive about it.
I think she's a mostly good person when it comes down to it, but when it comes to who she'll hang out with or signal boost she only really thinks about her own experiences with the person and that's that.

So Paige is Tien, got it.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Looking into it a bit more, it looks like she falls back on, "Hey, when my friend is super shitty to marginalized people on a regular basis, it's just a bit. They're totes not serious when they're regularly sexist, racist, and homophobic", quite a bit. Which is, well the words gross and awful don't properly cover it.
Yeah, I think I'll be steering clear of Paige stuff for the foreseeable future unless there's a drastic change.

Man, I can’t imagine playing Omikron for 8 hours at a time while constantly trying to be entertaining and having Pat going off on you for every little thing. It’s no wonder Liam left (remember the mouse incident and Liam touching Pats TV?) when he did.
I say bring back Liam, Woolie, and that other anime obsessed person they had.
Speaking of searching out Dark Souls LPs and finding new channels, I was led to Kay Plays a while back. She gets convinced to play Dark Souls blind, and has no idea what the game is except hard. She picks things up incredibly fast and also really loves to stare at things and think about the areas and lore and all that. It's very good.
Episode 24 just convinced me to recommend it here. Kay is starting a new session parked in front of a door most people will immediately recognize. Just watch the first two minutes.

Just wanna point out, as a trans woman living in the United States of America, that "associates with some absolutely horrid people" and "dig in their heels when people tell them they're doing bad things" absolutely cancels out "not a terrible person". Enabling, platforming, and making excuses for nazis is functionally no different than actually being one and more than anything, what gets people like me killed is "good people" who just "don't get what the whole be to-do is".
By the same token, SBF are a bunch of drunk Canadian gamers, and do not have to conform to holding the exact same opinions as their PA fanbase.
I think that especially compared to other "well known" LPers, they come out pretty ok. This does not mean they are perfect.
No one has to conform to holding any of my opinions, obviously, but I am absolutely going to judge and disavow anyone who doesn't purge their connections with the alt-right, given everything that is currently happening in the world vis-a-vis white supremacy and fascism.
There's no sliding scale of acceptability there, no benefit of the doubt.

But man!
Disappointing to think about!
I don't think I'll be getting back into his streams again
Although I guess I would've seen that bit coming from playing Nier originally.

fffffuuuuuckkkk
i didn't know that was what that was referencing

Liam if you're gonna delete something you think was a bad idea, don't repost it lol
I'm already dead. ;_;
Its like an annoying reflex now.
Liam likes his anime in the same way that is the reason we're not allowed to have anime threads here anymore.
liam had some pretty excellent burns
he had a really sheltered upbringing, and as a result had a lot of trouble understanding that no some things are not ok
woolie isn't the zodiac killer, but he has seen him in the woolie-hole
never forget: gotta get koopi
Though upon reflection my personal favorite is probably LA Noire
That game was just bad enough and just good enough to bring out the absolute best comic timing in everybody

So, for example, one could check which former SBF members Liam follows on Twitter, and who he likes/retweets. It won't be surprising.
hmm, checks out
Or we could cut out the searching and scrolling with:
Is there anywhere I can actually download an MP3 of this?
He actually deleted a "The Evil is Defeated" gif tweet.

There is no acceptable frame of reference in which a deep association with nazis makes you "pretty okay"
