Videl made me redownload this game and pick up the second season pass.
She seems really fun, though the way her level 1 works makes DLC timing really weird. I'm probably just bad though, haven't touched this game since before evo.

i am playing strangers again in xrd
the millia match seems impossible. i feel like i can actually do well at guessing on the 50/50 bullshit but i block right twice and oops i can't do anything to punish and she just gets back in for free with jumping in being a mixup between pin/no pin requiring me to flick or 6P. i guess the answer is keep her off of pin but idk seems impossible. or maybe i'm supposed to ib pot buster some pressure stuff. her buttons aren't even bad
maybe potemkin is... bad. . .
@P10 here's a block of advice about fighting Millia
Millia is the vortex incarnate, but she's got low health (like 2nd lowest in the game), and she's got to have good execution in order to have decent damage.
She's got a few common tricks to get in, and if you can recognize her intent, you can start coming up with ways to deal with them.
If she doesn't have the pin and she doesn't have meter, she's going to have to try to guess her way in, usually with one of airdash/run-in 2D/roll. If she's far away, she can't just run at you because she will get punched in the face by one of Potemkin's many buttons. Hammerfall will counterhit her for a hard knockdown if she guessed IAD with some buttons, if she guessed 2D, if she guessed haircar, and probably if she guessed 5S. Roll has recovery and has no invulnerability, but her hittable area is quite tiny and quite low. If you see it coming, you can pot buster her! You can also just press 5K. Potemkin has had the best backdash in the Guilty Gear series for a long time, and in Xrd it's still top notch: it is 21F long, and is invulnerable from frames 1-20! There's literally only one vulnerable frame of the whole animation, and it's at the very end! If Millia is trying to assail you with normals and she has no projectiles to cover it, just guessing backdash is a perfectly good idea, as you can make her whiff something and then you can land a pot buster or a 5P or whatever. It can't be stressed enough what a great move Potemkin's backdash is, and how important it is to take advantage of it. Camping the pin can be somewhat hard, because if she makes you block stuff you get pushed backwards and then she can get the pin. She can pick up the pin by rolling over it, too! Still, if she throws the pin and isn't able to seize the opportunity created by the pin, sit on the pin. She can get it back, but until she does, her options in have shrank and consequently the variety of things you have to worry about have shrank as well.
YRC is your friend! The time slow can be used to gain ground / prevent her from getting out / make it easy to AA a long-range approach. Hammerfall YRC is good stuff. Empty jump YRC is a thing FAB does that leaves you scratching your head until you realize it's GENIUS (if opponent jumped time slow makes it easier to see it and Heat Knuckle them, opponent less inclined to press buttons because of time slow, backdashes are more easily stopped, etc.). Moving forwards by walking or Hammerfall builds surprising tension gauge for Potemkin, so don't be afraid to just move forwards: you're actually going to gain resources!
Blitz shield is really powerful, and if your opponent doesn't have 25% tension, then a successful REJECTION is almost guaranteed damage. If Millia is burning gauge for YRC to get in, that may create an opportunity for you to blitz shield her offense and retake control of the round.
If you can make her block something, you're taking the lead. Her low health combined with Potemkin's high damage means that if you can get her blocking, she dies SUPER FAST. Without meter, she has no reversals as well: she's gotta pick between jump/backdash/block/not-invulnerable-roll. Because Potemkin and Millia have the same guts rating (the "more defense as you have less life" modifier), Potemkin could literally be down like more than a third of his life and Millia could be at full health, and in terms of life they'd actually be about equal. Potemkin doesn't need a lot of opportunities to suddenly win the round against Millia.
Millia excels at staying on people once she's scored that knockdown, and Potemkin offers one of the biggest and the least mobile hurtbox in the game for her to apply her high/low game to. I remember seeing one match where FAB guessed flick every time Millia took the air, and it worked maybe once out of like a dozen attempts. Jump at her and press P and do what you can to disrespect her approach, putting faith in that one good knockdown can lead to her life flashing before her eyes. If you're feeling like gambling, 214K is upper body invulnerable for a really long time and will absolutely blow her up if she tries to IAD on you from far away... the startup is awful slow, though!
Evidently Rangchu's team won Strong Style Japan!
what if bear is actually good

Nintendo is running a smash ultimate tournament with items on?
What if bear is actually garbage and there's a combination of things going on such as rangchu being among the best tekken players on the planet and pro players not taking the matchup seriously and making hella mistakes.
E: Actually, I just watched the strongstyle japan grand finals. Rangchu played exactly one game during the entire GF, and Double beat the shit out of him.
ARE WE REVIVING MARVEL INFINITE BECAUSE YES I WANT THIS.
I mean, uh, Marvel on PC is pretty good and the netcode is probably the best of any Capcom fighter so I would be down to get back into it with people if they were interested.
That said I'm kinda glad I still have people to play 3 with because I swapped from nova skrull sentinel to cap skrull sentinel in the final hours of 3 and never got to really show it off
i at some point in the future will reinstall mvc just to fuck around
ive been having a pretty good time learning the combo system in DBZ, but do you know what's even better than DBZ's combo system? being able to do literally whatever the fuck I want in MVC:I
i never quite found a 2nd character I really liked playing as much as sigma
I just played sigma/thanos since it was the closest I could figure out and still have some rude as heck gimmicks but it was clear sigma was the heart character

I enjoyed all the other marvel games (including DBFZ), but mvci was so wild and freeform in a way that really clicked with me.
I know tier lists are more or less nonsense, but I am happy to see Videl ranking pretty highly and aghast to see Android 17 unseating Nappa for the very bottom
those characters seem pretty similar, how is Videl supposed to be so good and 17 so bad!

Given the insane power creep of the series I would not be surprised if Videl could totally whip Nappa 1 on 1.
And baby Pan would absolutely decimate him.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

videl has impossible to see instant crossups that work off half the casts assists
I'm finally playing DBZ online again and A.Gohan/Jiren/Videl has actually been working out okay for me?
I'm at least having good matches, maybe this is just because people haven't figured out how to go against Jiren or Videl yet and in a week I'll be destroyed, but for right now, fun times
Its got a nice cast but im not a megaman fan or fan of the marvels characters they pulled but mostly just cant find a style I liked, always loved my wolvie
I did pick hulk and found out I can smash in a hilarious amount of gamma crushes after a nova bnb so f it lets rock
I met the devs for Fantasy Strike at PAX South, and when I played it I had to have it. As someone who has given up on 2LK-of-death anime fighters, its a breath of fresh air, being intensely about footsies over combos.
You can't crouch and you have a jump button. Combos can't really get higher than 3. Health bars are segmented to represent individual hits. Its kinda amusing when a dramatic ult hits for 1 pip of health.

who could have known that X and Cap of all teams would be this destructive
People seemed to hate X when the game came out
This is still my favorite marvel game to actually play.

MVCI is currently 50% for Lunar New Year :-D
Yeah I'm still not buying it twice
Pretty sure the reality stone infinite was patched out inside a week of it being found, unless he has another one

the only thing I cant figure out is characters cause I got no xmen or doggo!!!
like yeah nova's great but
The cast was a real head-scratcher. I get Marvel decree about X-Men, but who was clamoring to see more of 2009 Bionic Commando over Okami?
That said, I really liked their takes on X and Monster Hunter.
