Tygan makes a breakthrough that gives Sgt. Fencingsax a +1 damage bonus from his vektor rifle. He then completes an autopsy on the ADVENT shieldbearer.
Zxerol, David T, and Straightzi get back from their covert op with the first lead on where the Warlock lives. David T comes home wounded, but also gets a promotion to Sergeant, so there's a silver lining. Choose training in either Shadowstep (don't trigger Overwatch or Reaction Fire) or Shadowstrike (attacks from concealment get +25 Aim and +25 crit chance) @David_T
Sq. Straightzi then gets sent straight back out on another covert op, accompanied by Cpl. Misc.
The resistance then contact us with a tip-off about a scientist being held by ADVENT, so we're off to rescue them. Baidol gets to take some experimental Dragon Rounds provided by Shen.
Starting over from that disaster campaign, Im pretty sure I have never seen an overwatch shot connect from anyone anywhere literally ever in my life, Im gonna pretend that fuckin button isnt there

I'm not scared of robots, I'm just...reevaluating the threat level. I believe I may have previously underestimated our future mechanical overlords.
I'll take Lightning Hands, please. It might be good to have some damage-dealing capability that lets me maintain distance from the ro--
From enemies. In general. You know, regular ones or terrifying mechanical abominations that walk like a man or whatever.
So i bought War of the Chosen yesterday thanks to this LP. For whatever reason I didn't grab it when it first came out ( weird cause I played a ton of base game) and then kinda forgot i didn't have it i guess.
It's real fun. I like the addition of resistance soldiers on retaliation missions, but it would be nice if they didn't immediately turn around and kill MCed guys before I have a turn to do anything about it.

Overwatch is a complete waste of time at the start, rookies can't shoot for shit. Even now my guys hit maybe 1 in 5 overwatches on a good day.

That's just really bad luck, I think the aim penalty for overwatch is just 20, same as if the enemy was in half cover.

My only hope is that people on fire can set cars next to them on fire.
You're getting really good at screenshotting key frames to communicate the flow of action, Smof. This is a very good LP.
Thanks! I take a ton of screenshots. About 300 for a longish mission like this one. I try to cut them down as much as possible while having it still make sense, so I'm glad it mostly works.

Most attacks: Lt. Tofystedeth
Most under fire: Sgt. Fencingsax
Moved furthest: Sgt. Fencingsax
Sgt. Fencingsax promoted to Lieutenant. Training is in Silent Killer (kills with your rifle while concealed do not increase your chance to reveal), Distraction (a kill with your claymore puts you into concealment), Needle (shots taken in concealment have +2 armour piercing), or Squadsight (you can target any enemy seen by a squadmate, providing you have LOS) @Fencingsax
Sgt. JayKaos promoted to Lieutenant. Can be trained in Heavy Ordnance (1 bonus grenade use) or Holo Targeting (firing your mag cannon gives your allies a +15 aim bonus against that target) @JayKaos
Sgt. Zxerol promoted to Lieutenant. Can be trained as a Field Medic (medkits have +2 uses) or Scanning Protocol (use your drone to scan the area and reveal enemies) @Zxerol
Lt. Baidol promoted to Captain. Training is in Implacable (if you make a kill you get a bonus move) or Bladestorm (free sword attacks against any enemy entering, or attacking in, melee range) @Baidol

I think Needle just ignores 2 pips.
On Reaper skill choices.
Silent Killer is way better than it looks due to bad wording on the tooltip, it makes kills have a 0% chance to reveal, rather than the implied flat 50% with no increases. Which in turn makes Reapers fantastic finishers

We actually get quite a bit of stuff done in this interlude. Lt. Tofystedeth and Lt. JayKaos go for some team training to further develop their bond. Shen finishes some fiddling around and hands over an experimental gas grenade for the troops. Which is cool. Hopefully they'll be careful with it, if it goes off inside the Skyranger that'll be a bad time. Tygan also figures out how to apply weapon upgrades to Fencingsax's rifle.
Cpl. Misc and Sq. Straightzi get back from their covert op and now we can collect our supply drops instantaneously. Misc gets a promotion to Sergeant (Demolition (damage or destroy cover) or Suppression (pin a target with your cannon, imposing an aim penalty and gaining a reaction shot against them) @miscellaneousinsanity ) Straightzi gets +4 to his hacking and also gets wounded. So they both get something, that's nice. I then send Sgt. Snickety and Sq. Jeddy out together.
I hire another new rookie - welcome aboard Asthariel - and sent him straight for Ranger training. Gotta keep our pool of replacement bodies topped up. We finish shielding a power coil and construct the Shadow Chamber in its place, and then we make contact with the New Arctic, which introduces us to our final Chosen bastard. Hooray.
Snickety and Jeddy return unscathed with a stash of Ability Points in their pockets. Sgt. Mvrck and Sq. Straightzi are dispatched to sabotage the Avatar project some more. I then realise I am sitting on a massive pile of communal AP, so I go on an ability gifting spree.
Fencingsax gets Tactical Rigging, so he can actually take an item on mission. Apparently his big floaty trenchcoat doesn't have any pockets.
Zxerol gets Field Medic.
Jedoc gets Sustain to improved his survivability, and Aftershock to make his Volt power more useful.
Tofystedeth and DarthWaiter both get Return Fire.
JayKaos gets Heavy Ordnance to give us an extra grenade.
Baidol gets Conceal.
David T gets Blast Padding, to make her a bit tankier.
Then some mission options pop up, so we head out to the New Arctic to locate and neutralise an ADVENT field commander and, more importantly, to counteract the dark event Made Whole which sounds horrible.
