thought about this for a while. You know who you could not have this conversation be about? The troops! Its very uncontroversial to say "war is bad". Who does war? What is the group of people who do war?
Is extrajudicial killing under the cover of your job bad? Sure! Who does that? What's the job where you do extrajudicial killing under the cover of your job?
i think the most authority i've exercised in 25 shows of enforcing is nicely asking people to not sit against a wall because the fire marshal gets mad if they see it

hey want to read something completely horrible and depressing?
Like how Pinkerton's are training to position themselves as the violent, lethal protectors of the super rich in the event that climate change leads to widespread chaos and unrest?
Recently I watched a video.. I think it was Captain Dissolution? That did a team-up video with Extra Credits. It was extremely jarring, given how much I've wiped EC from my mind these days. Like I heard the voice and was like.. that's not Dan! That's not even high pitched Dan! Oooh... oh, that's right, not touching that.
I love everything about New Frame Plus and Hollow Knight.
While the glorious edict slew a great monster it also spawned a much lesser one the silly goose thing gets kind of crazy sometimes Im pretty sure Ive seen Bashar Al Assad get called a silly goose

I've thought about this a lot recently too, specifically because of family members asking me if I've ever considered reenlisting and my immediate gut reaction being "fuck serving in the military under this president." And of course then immediately going, hmm, well that doesn't make sense. It's not like US imperial policy suddenly sprang up into being in 2016, what's the difference, ethically speaking, of serving in a Trump military vs an Obama military? There is none, right? Like, if I take what I feel about cops and apply it to my own life, how the fuck could I ever justify military service?
On a kind of meta-sociological note, I think there's a couple of reasons this kind of blind spot develops, and why it's relatively easier to talk about acab than "well, the troops though"
1) Even if you are against American imperialism and the military as a global enforcer, it is very difficult to get past the massive cultural presence of WW2 and the ideal of a "justifiable war of liberation" as a reason to employ a standing army. If you accept the idea of a justifiable war it becomes easier to accept that troops and the military is necessary, leaving the civilian infrastructure and government to take most of the ire.
2) Even though it doesn't really apply anymore, the draft complicates things a lot. The idea of being in the military as a kind of "service" is one that I've never really been comfortable with, to me it always felt like a job, but when you consider that people were literally being pressed into the military with threat of criminal punishment otherwise, it makes a lot more sense. Combine this with the generally good pay and the fact that military members are some of the few Americans who benefit from an actual social safety net and a strange thing starts to happen: this cultural shorthand develops where joining the military is both a great sacrifice, but also one of the few ways out from, say, the crippling poverty that is the end result of unchecked capitalism.
3) This might sound a bit weird, but ex-troops make better art than ex-cops, which is turn shapes how people think of them. Think about it, troops come home from a war and (generally) make anti war literature and films and music, showcasing the horrors of war and how fucked up the system is. Ex-cops consult on CSI: Skullfuckers and Lethal Weapon 8.

like they actually see themselves as the mercenary armies that will protect hedge fund parasites from people desperate for food and water
and they're proud of it
I've always wondered what these kinds of rich folk think they'll be able to buy in the event of a societal collapse so terrible they need to hide behind a small mercenary army for security. I think they assume the farmers are just gonna keep on farming and are willing to sell their produce for inedible money while the violent mobs are trying to break into the wealthy compounds.
went to a city council meeting before and apparently citizens take aside some time at each meeting to yell how corrupt they are to the council in person

Also it's real hard to hate speech people who choose to work a job. They chose to be cops.

ACAB's a big problem. I don't know if we'll ever find enough fathers for all these cops.
phew, glad that got cleared up
Pretending to steal a car tire. I'm glad that all these people are acquaintances of the pranksters and not just random people.
Probably, huh?
well there's clearly no other possible explanation, it must be that
that's funny, I remember when they were about people who wanted to pretend to be racist in the mass effect threads
