The new historic cards looks really neat. I may start some historic decks, buut.. I honestly don't want to play against Nexus, Oko, and Veil in Bo3. I was very happy when those cards rotated/got banned and playing Phyrexian Arena isn't enough for me to face them again.
I still don't get why deputy doesn't at least blink the targets, even if it's killed before the ability resolves. Like the ruling is obviously that, but I don't get why it is.
The Deputy's trigger sets up its own timer that says "this effect ends when this permanent leaves the BF". If you remove the Deputy before the trigger resolves, i.e., before the timer is set, then the effect has ended before it ever began so it never actually happens.
(Compare with Fiend Hunter and its ilk which have two separate triggers: one for entering and a separate one for leaving.)

Nexus is almost certainly bad in Historic because Kethis Combo exists and outraces it

Kethis Combo with Oko/Once Upon A Time/Goose too. I'm not sure if there's any deck that can handle both the combo and turn 2 Oko. My instinct is that it's possible but I didn't play much during the later half of M20 standard when Kethis was running around.

Admittedly, I was only playing with 2x Emry and 2x unnecessary Islands yesterday, but I will say that the Once Upon A Time/Goose combination hurts some along with helping. Having 8 more non-legendary cards (even with two lands trimmed) makes a 1x Diligent Excavator + Kethis way less likely to go off. That would be mitigated a lot by 2x less lands and 2x more Emry to mill myself, though...
The deck is also benefiting from people trying to make banned-out standard decks working and people running tribal without any idea when to push the tempo; I'm almost certain there are fast red decks that can easily kick Kethis Combo's ass even through Oko since the mana base requires you to shock yourself on-curve like, 3 times per game.
E: OK, yeah, 4x Emry instead of 2x Emry makes the deck feel insanely more powerful, good job deckbuilding milski-from-yesterday

They've banned Oko/OUAT/Veil since then! I could barely hit Gold 1 before they did that and whoops suddenly they're gone and it's MONOBLACK'S TIME TO RISE

Ok, tried to play this historic event, 10 of 10 tries all vs mono green elf, are there ANY other decks in this event?
And of course the majority of them played with that banned green card that prevents black/blue from targeting/destroying their stuff.
Sigh...............

You don't have to play Magic if you don't enjoy it.
That said, I played Kethis combo and generally smoked the competition, which included pretty varied strats like flash, goblins, knights, soul sisters, golos field, wishboard fires, and UW nothing-but-counterspells. Most of my losses were due to my own poor sequencing.
My jank-ass nothing decks with zero crafted cards have thusfar peaked at Gold 2, which is honestly better than I would have expected. I should probably make an actual budget deck and hit Platinum before the end of the month if I can manage it. Lovestruck Beast-less Golgari Adventure or Cavalcade or one of the various oven-cat brews.

Oven cat is VERY strong right now.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
It is, my main complaint about it is how long it takes to resolve in Arena. I don't know what combination of client lag, UI awkwardness, or just slow-ass opponents is to blame for this. It's gotten to the point that if I see a cat and an oven come out in an unranked queue, I just scoop because I don't want to spend the extra 15-20 seconds per turn dealing with it.

I conceded a bunch of brawl games on Weds because they were taking FOREVER and it was getting close to the end of the night and I wanted to test out other decks

I like playing Oven Cat, often because so many people burn Bonecrusher Giant Stomps on my creatures while Oven is untapped and then wonder why their Giant is in the graveyard.
The Cat Oven cycle does take too long. There's at least once superfluous step: you click on the Oven, get an "are you sure?" prompt, then select the creature to sacrifice, then hit "submit". I get that they want extra confirmations when sacrifices are involved, it's probably a built-in default to avoid insta-dumping something with a misclick (Fabled Passage gives you the "are you sure?" prompt). But with Oven, you always have to choose the creature you're sacrificing, even when you only have a single creature - if you got rid of the "are you sure?" prompt, there's no way that a misclick on the Oven would cost you anything. You can always click "Cancel" before you select your creature OR before clicking "Submit". IMO they could get rid of both "are you sure" and the "Submit" requirement, but just getting rid of the former would still save a lot of clicks.
Cards that do nothing but sacrifice themselves could be smoother too. I like the little pop-up "Sacrifice food" thing that Food gets; just do that for Fabled Passage and Scalding Cauldron and the like.

Lands that do nothing but sac themselves shouldn't ask for verification. Am I sure I wanted to sacrifice my Evolving Wilds? WTF else was I supposed to do with it?
EDIT: Maybe it's there to prevent you failing to find, I dunno.

Also like, here are things that interact with you saccing them
Like say if you try to sac that evolving wilds while your opponent has Ashiok out

I swear I don't understand how people make these manabases work. I keep running into peope that go, like, turn 2 Thought Erasure turn 3 Deafening Clarion, and in the meantime here I am with a BW Knights deck regularly color screwed out of being able to cast Murderous Rider.
@SkutSkut you got a sideboard guide for that? Been wanting to play with embercleave but haven't tried it out yet.
Use the maindeck for most matchups, Domri's for Simic Flash mostly with the "Creatures can't be countered" and fight, Vivien for Fires decks tho that hasn't been working like I've wanted to.
Spyglass for cat ovens mostly. Cindervines for Simic Flash, Fires decks and cat ovens/adventure decks. Brontodon for the removing fires/ovens too.
Flamesweep for go wide decks, frenzy can also be used against the likes of fires and flash tho I'm kind of eh on it cause of all the high cost stuff.

Ironically, this is one of my best matchups.
It’s just dependent on surviving the first three turns.

I don't think there's a good solution, this is just an inherent downside of playing the game in a digital format.

Still, I rather play vs that, then degenerate creatureless control decks with board wipes + planeswalkers + draw engine any day.

Elfball.
Yea I get why people play it. It is honestly much easier to pilot at a level that gets wins than most other stuff I've played.
I might have to do the unthinkable and just spam it at the start of seasons to get to plat 4 before actually trying out the more fun decks.
