Anyone got a good VH break down. I'm trying to decide who to run.
If it matters:
I played BL1 as Lillith, Brick and Rolland
I played 2 as Zer0, Kreig and Gaige.
I played TPS as Athena.
My first play throughs were Lillith and Zer0 (run and hide characters)
My most recent runs where Rolland and Gaige, both rocking shotgun focus builds.
Amara is the melee specialist and FL4K can cloak and get high-damage critical hits.
Moze could go melee with Iron Bear and Zane can use his gadgets to freeze then melee.
Relics help here but show up around level 30+ so that's a bummer.
But Amara doesn't need them much. I think she has that melee dash Athena had in her middle tree.
Hope that helps.

I would recommend Fl4k for you. He is the best sniper and (arguably) best shotgunner in the game. His fade away action skill is tailor made to a run and hide play style or shotgun to the face play style.
Amara would probably suit you too. She can be played very aggressively with melee and shotguns. Or you can phasezerk mooks, sit back and snipe their heads and so kill a whole spawn with the ties that bind action skill.
Someone over at a game-rumor Reddit posted a split video that seems to indicate an updated version of Tales From The Borderlands is coming. The update would add creator commentary, a 'codex' and most importantly a 'mini-episode' that picks up after the ending. Not sure how legit this is but we do have (at least) two DLCs for BL3 to go and giving Tales some new attention would make sense if one of those were to follow up a certain ECHO from Atlas HQ.
I would be pretty psyched for this. Tales from the Borderlands remains criminally underrated at large.
So I ran through Killavolt for the first time. I'd skipped it on previous playthrough because it was a sidequest and I'd heard some rumblings about it.
Aside from the unrelenting audio onslaught of innuendo, I loved it. I didn't realize it was a whole map on its own. The map was so much fun - a big urban space with plenty of rewarding nooks and crannies and a lot of verticality. It reminded me a lot of Old Haven, but with BL3's better movement and exploration.
The actual Killavolt fight was a bit closer than it should have been. I'm running a shock Amara who converts a big percentage of her damage to shock and then does longer and more shock damage. Killavolt being immune to shock made the fight a lot longer than it might have been othewise, but I got through it.
Alright story talk and I'm still gonna keep it vague, and in spoilers
Got to THAT point of the story.
You know the one. Nah don't play dumb with me.
Maya's death. Which hurt even though I knew it was coming. I've cared about her way more than Lilith for a awhile only to have her so unceremoniously written off--even if it was pretty obvious by her Jedi master gig--cuts me deep.
This isn't like Roland, where we just had a huge victory with us all involved, working together to achieve a goal only for it to be ripped away by the antagonist(s).
Well it was...but suddenly Ava shows up.
I haven't had time to get to know Ava more than a too cool for school thief who doesn't listen to orders but for some reason Maya knows she'll be a siren one day.
Which is too bad, cause I can see her being a good character despite being a petulant child cause that's what she is: a child. But I've barely interacted with her at all and she is just thrown so far into the limelight that it is baffling.
It's sort of the weird thing about 3: parts of story doesn't seem to have much time to breath. Rhys, who is already established in Tales from the Borderlands, still has plenty of main mission interactions (I've been ignoring most side missions so I'm a lil disappointed about not knowing more about Lorelei, other than her demand for coffee) and so if this is your first interactions with him you get a pretty good sense of his foibles. Him and Kattagawa have a pretty good arc.
Not so with Ava. It seems like her/Maya's planet became cut content otherwise I can see us having interacted with her a lot more before heading back to open the vault and suddenly this huge story twist.
But we already know Maya. Ava hasn't grown on me yet.
Basically I'm saying they're making Pickle look good at this point. Let that sink in: Pickle. I never want to hear him again but at least he had his uses.
Anywho, just venting. I hope the DLC helps with some of this stuff but I need a breather.
This is my interpretation of the story point in your spoiler.
My assumption is that Maya had some sort of prophetic vision about Ava. That's how she knew Ava would become a Siren. Additionally, I'm guessing Maya probably saw her own death, and that's why she worked to keep Ava safe and sheltered. She was basically setting up her own successor.

So a few things
I dont think that DLC is coming. Fan reaction to that spoiler has been overwhelmingly negative
Also
They've admitted a lot of content was cut. Seemingly given some interviews even the writers didnt know how much was missing. Regardless theres really no way they could have salvaged Ava.
Maya seemed to know she was gonna die ( if not how) and Ava was chosen to get her powers but they only hint at that in echos and something youll get later
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.
People are gonna come back to life at some point. Sirens with new powers will be the big deal in the next game.
Which is gonna come out in like 10 years.
Maybe Maya's voice actress didn't wanna be part of the project anymore.
Nah
much like with Ava being a shallow attempt at a new Tina it was a deliberate attempt to ape Roland but unlike 2 where Roland was a big part of the story Maya was in the game for like 4 minutes before she was killed

A bit less with that and more that (endgame spoilers, Karoz)...
Tina didn't overstay her welcome in BL2. They doled out her time proper and it helped when the last DLC focused heavily on her and the writing up to that point and beyond also helped in getting there. Ava meanwhile:
Had some development behind her past locked off in a side-quest a lot of players put off until later when they were already sour with her.
Yelled at Lilith over Maya's death for not doing anything beyond sending us and all our VHs do is give her some comforting one-liner without telling her not to blame Lilith. It's TANNIS who does that and only close to the end of the game.
Gets Maya's powers with seemingly no effort on her part other then what offscreen stuff she and the other Raiders were doing during the attack on the CoV's HQ.
Gets told by Lilith at the end that she was basically right to yell at her and is given SANCTUARY (instead of the two-three other NPC adults Lilith could have given it to) while she goes to fly up to the Moon and splat against it to hold it in place.
Ava can be salvaged but she needs some serious work and not the 'look how cool my OC is!' sort.
Finally sat down for with this for a good stretch. Went Fl4k, and he's pretty solid so far. I think I need to actually figure out what the Action Skill I chose does. Not sure I'm using it to it's full potential. Mr Chew is a good boy. Don't like Fl4k personality, but oh well. Graphics are great, but at times that makes the game feel less Borderlands. After a Gaige run through BL2 (plus most dlc) I'm trying to remember that reloading is ok.
Still strikes me as strange that they pushed out ComLil DLC just to nerf the Raiders so they
don't have the map and don't have Santosh
Feels like that could have been the prologue for this game.
I wonder what is prepared for her in the eventual BL4.
Given how 3 treats the 2 cast?
She wont even be in the story
Or...
Real BL3 Story Spoiler For Real
Don't open if you haven't played BL3.
be murdered in a cutscene in which you the player do not even appear.
Same as above:
The number of times where you are conveniently off screen for a moment is just such horrible writing. None of them are even disguised really. They're just transparent "We can't be bothered to explain why you don't stop this beyond A Door Was In The Way."
Just did the late game side mission Baby Dancer for the first time.

Oddly sweet, just Claptrap dancing with a woman in a wheelchair. Was expecting something horrible to happen (or be made to do something horrible, like try to help her and roll her off a cliff into a skag den...
Very pleased and a little surprised to have it played straight - just a single sweet moment in 60+ hours of not sweet.
I am enjoying Zane and Fl4k in my playthrough with a friend. The story is not that good and the Twins are coming off as very much budget Handsome Jack antagonists, but I'm not really interested in them at all. The story requires a significant amount of idiot balls and shoving the player characters off screen at key moments that doesn't feel great. I haven't finished it yet, but right now I'd probably rank the Pre-Sequel story and characterizations above the ones in BL3.
Fortunately, the gameplay is lots of fun and I've been enjoying the gun balancing a lot more than BL2's. There's some annoying design issues around which quest enemies are rekillable for farming purposes. Dumptruck for example drops 2 legendaries and may only be killed once during his quest. I am looking forward to the release of the BL3 gibbed save game editor and community patches as I think there should be some cool things modders will be able to do with this framework.
I thought it was weaker than BL2, much better than the Pre-Sequel, though. The twins were pretty garbage as far as villains go. I did kind of enjoy Katagawa and Rhys. But what salvaged the whole story for me was Typhon DeLeon. Whatever it is about that old-timey humor just gets me every time, and made the last act waaaay more enjoyable than the rest of the game. I did enjoy the first DLC, even if it felt like there was some unnecessary padding via repetitive combat sections.
Will only use if it has a “welcome to the jam” plays every time I do it. In all seriousness I’m waiting for all the dlc to come out or a really good sale for the season pass. Bl3 didn’t motivate me to play very much.
Did they break the game? All of my vending machines say "Sold Out" for item of the day, and all of them are selling a level 12 legendary in the first slot. (Note: I'm level 18).
For some additional context, I'm on Meridian, I'm working on story with Zero right now. So the three vending machines I've checked (Ammo, Health, Guns) are all at the main base with Lorelai on Meridian.
Edit: Checked 2 more vending machines in the middle of a level. I'm on the highway level with Maya, and there are two vending machines at the end of it. Health and Ammo. Both are selling legendaries in the first slot.
