I find comics that went to absolute hell but kept riding through it more interesting than timeless mediocrity.
Like, Erfworld, even before the gigantic absurd collapse that ended the comic, was just the most amazing premise and first arc and went to absolute hell afterwards. Multiple kickstarters for minor things. Constant falling-outs with artists that resulted in delays and radical art shifts. It's own not-quite-patreom system that was effectively a merch subscription system simultaneously funding the comic worse because of overhead costs and requiring a huge amount of shipping work. Bitcoin mining attached to the forum. Multiple site redesigns, some of which resulted in actual comic updates being pushed off the front page by fanart submissions (only briefly). And the comic itself started to answer every question with "we'll get to that after two side stories with no apparent connection to the current plot at all", resulting in a tight story about an "evil" faction pulling off a win turning into an eight-plot-thread pileup without even the shape of any upcoming plot being clear.
Like, the comic was failing in arenas other comics would never dream of entering, and it was constantly looking for new ways to fail harder and more uniquely. It truly was the most Webcomics Webcomic of all time.
O man, Erfworld is a blast from the past. Did it finally end? I stopped reading when it became more of a web novel and less of a webcomic. How did it come to an end?

I think the author had to stop due to a family tragedy and essentially pulled the plug on the comic publicly . They kept part of it going privately for patreon members who had already donated out of obligation.

Content warning for the entire tale, but it's understandable that they stopped when they did.
Yeah, Erfworld had some long-term issues with the health of his wife that put a strain on the comic, but it wasn't those or any outcomes of those that ended it. What ended it was... well, they wanted it private and it's pretty awful, but you can find info if you Google.
To clarify, none of this is why I find Erfworld's collapse or oddities fascinating; all the stuff that made it a bloated, shambling corpse was exciting, but the killing blow was just tragic and totally unrelated to all the mismanagement.

I only know about that dude from Neverwinter Nights so I am not fully versed on the intricacies of norse mythology
Tyr One-Handed was the Norse god of war. The story of how he lost his hand is a little complicated, but essentially he sacrificed his hand in order to make sure the great wolf Fenrir could be chained up.
Doing any comic is a personal decision, albeit one you commit to and try to keep to a schedule when it becomes your source of income.
I'm saying that when you compare it to other daily comics (PvP, DoA, Real Life, Skin Horse, QC, any newspaper strip), I'd say that after ten years it was probably near the top, art-wise.
This is fair tbh. Now that I think about it Schlock also was pretty creative at panel arrangement, which a lot of "newspaper" style daily strips neglect. (for example, I think Sinfest almost never breaks its 4-panel daily format)
My main gripe with his art is that the backgrounds tended to be extremely sparse (up to and including just a monotone color behind the characters, especially when they're supposed to be indoors), although he also got better at that and could do pretty solid ones when he tried to. It made a lot of the spaceship interiors seem weirdly featureless, in contrast to the level of technical detail in the dialog.
The author's big strength imo is coming up with interesting sci-fi combat scenarios and letting them play out organically with creative solutions and stuff
e: I guess what I wanna say is that for a thirty-two-year-old middle manager's first-ever try at drawing a comic, with no prior drawing experience, he did pretty damn good
