I assume the SEC will be the last to cancel, but there's no way they can go ahead now
The danger with the college sports is unless the NCAA commands it, you could have one or two leagues refuse to cancel. I would be more worried about the smaller leagues than stuff like the SEC though.
Michigan can say they didn't lose to ohio state this year
This is all it takes, eh

Spencer gave that up years ago and I lost track of it. Much like Brian Cook gave up This Week in Schadenfreude and it became boring.

Ryan Nanni did the Fuller Cup IIRC, and they stopped it after a season where some players committed a murder or some such violent crime and they thought continuing with the thing was in bad taste

Been seeing the argument that “college towns depend on the money football brings in!”
But like, if safety procedures are still in place, the numbers won’t be enough to move the needle. You’re not going to cram 50k people into bars and restaurants and hotels, and if colleges are smart theyre not going to have the parking lots open for tailgaters either.
So it’s just more “pretend everything is normal” bullshit. Trying to artificially force everything back to normal isn’t going to work, but by god they’re sure gonna try.

College towns are already fucked by the disruption to student-life that Corona brings.
Ain’t no bars that are gonna be able to operate at max capacity, or at least not for long.

Whenever someone starts waxing rhapsodic about those poor small businesses in college towns, I think of how we always had to drive to another state to buy anything that wasn’t beer or groceries because the local chamber of commerce refused to approve any business with a national presence. Which they hoped would force everyone into their terrible dingy stores with no inventory and inflated prices.
Meanwhile they spent decades watching all that cash going over the state line and wondering why the downtown core was turning into a bunch of derelict storefronts.

The Pac-12 has joined in with canceling sports through the end of the year.
President dumbass thinks they should play because these players are strong.
"These football players are very young, strong people, and physically, I mean they're physically in extraordinary shape," Trump said in the interview. "So they're not going to have a problem, you're not going to see people, you know, could there be? Could it happen? But I doubt it.
"So I think football is making a tragic mistake," Trump later added.
Don't ask about all the 'immune' kids who have it.
I look forward to learning more about the factors that led the Big Ten and Pac-12 leadership to take these actions today, I remain comfortable with the thorough and deliberate approach that the SEC and our 14 members are taking to support a healthy environment for our student-athletes. We will continue to further refine our policies and protocols for a safe return to sports as we monitor developments around COVID-19 in a continued effort to support, educate and care for our student-athletes every day.
I understand nfl players, they have a salery theyre getting and its their livelihood. But a college player? No way id play a down this season if i had the option.
Sports shouldnt happen this year and fuck you president dumbass.

Lots of old white dudes who will be safely away from getting covid are telling young men they will be safe. God damn this country sometimes.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

Well we do love to treat our sports like they're war.

An NFL player has a contract, salary, and union.
A NCAA player has a scholarship that can be revoked at any time, and a dozen people trying to take their spot.
A lot have nothing else and if they aren't playing every down they can might as well just go flip burgers or bag groceries, because those are their best-case prospects.
A lot of the players do want to play. I think they look at the NBA bubble as seeing the possibility for it without accounting for the the sheer difference in size between the NBA and CFB
I also have no faith in a bunch of unpaid18-22 year old young men to actually follow the rules and remain within a proposed bubble, even if that were possible or made any sense.

Also elite athletes tend to be hyper competitive people who want to compete.

Rich old white dudes love watching young men get brain damage for a slice of a billion dollar industry. A pandemic? Child's play. We really are back to the fucking gladiator/death-sport days.

Lou Holtz tells Fox News that college football needs to play amid coronavirus pandemic this fall: "Let's move on with our life! When they stormed Normandy, they knew there were going to be casualties -- there were going to be risks."
The author is a reporter for the Daily Beast.
That is an utterly disgusting equation, and Holtz is a monstrous goose for making it.

I mean what’s covid or debilitating back injuries to a guy who only lets god handle his junk
Vote was 12-2 according to the article with iowa and nebraska wanting to play the season.

Yeah, but now Rutgers has the same number of wins for the season as Michigan.
I don’t see how Harbaugh keeps his job with results like that.

Georgia Tech had an 8k donor and the Michigan money cannon is a little rusty so far. So we're only in second place.

Look, let's just allow the SEC to play in a bubble.
And then let the bubble float away.
I forgot that Lane Kiffin vs Mike Leach is a new thing

Also, too:
Stay classy, you SEC motherfuckers.
They will end up the idiotic laughingstock again in a week. It's the SEC.

What happens when the star player has a couple of minor but suspicious symptoms the night before the big game?
Also elite athletes tend to be hyper competitive people who want to compete.
But the cost is so obviously too high.
Update: the money cannon finally went off. Michigan now up 12k.
