I had to pause the video due to being in meetings at work, but I'm back at it.
You know that very short scene where the fellowship walks away from Rivendell, where they're going over hills and things while the music plays, before they end up at the place where they hide from the birds?
It's an hour fucking long.
The anticipation as you approach a scene where Sam isn't walking is amazing. Gandalf just got an entire word out, brilliant.
How accurate is it though? Presumably at some points Sam is actually walking towards the Shire, even if he's just crossing a room that happens to be oriented that way.
Just when I thought that video had reached it's peak, it's surprised me again and again. That nightmare baby shark will haunt my thoughts for the rest of the day.

Well, they didn't run the clip when he steps backwards to help Frodo with the monster at the entrance to Moria, so I think they're trying to be accurate where they can.

The one place I noticed a mistake when going through the video at 2x speed and scanning to certain sections out of curiosity was at the ending. Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli see Frodo and Sam quickly running away across the other side of the river and decide not to go after them. The clip does not play during this bit (it does a million more times when the scene switches focus back to the duo).

Jesus fuck, "I would have been happy to pay 40 bucks just for the box" some people have too many dollars and not enough sense.
Dude has nearly nearly 6,500 patrons and 344k subs from being a silly ipod man who likes Shrek. 40 bucks for a box at this point is just a sensible business expense. But in the abstract, yeah, consumer-goods collection building is an absolute absurdity and he would've been paying for literal trash. And I would've paid for him pay for trash.
Seriously though his patreon is a bargain, you get an extra video as well produced as him normal stuff a week for a buck.
But you are fundamentally paying a man to buy garbage, yes.

with another patreon, with making another 700ish a month. I am glad he can make a living doing abjectly silly nonsense.
edit: i misread what the Dankmus patreon page said, still pretty cool how well he is doing.
though it is clear DankPods is buttering the bread now.

Inconveniently, YouTube has decided that all of Tom Scott's Technical Difficulties videos are exactly the right length to have two pre-roll ads. Even more inconveniently, every single one of them is a hyperlocal political attack ad, and both candidates appear to have invested heavily in YouTube. So every time a new video comes up on autoplay, I get fifteen seconds of "Candidate A, who Jedoc definitely already voted for in the last election, wants to give Nancy Pelosi tender smooches and destroy the oil industry, which seems like something someone from your zip code would be against, so vote for Candidate B" followed by fifteen seconds of "Candidate B is clearly just another Oklahoma petrochristian asshole who doesn't believe in the coronavirus or climate change and stands a terrifyingly plausible chance of winning, vote for Candidate A."
Motherfucker, do you think I'm binge-watching ten-year-old indie British panel shows because I want to be reminded of anything currently happening outside? Leave me alone! Sell me a mattress or a ball hair trimmer or something!
Anyway, I know this is just rewarding bad behavior, but I've signed up for the free trial of YouTube Premium. I'll probably begrudgingly pay for it until I feel better or the asteroid comes, either of which are acceptable outcomes at the moment.
On web browsers ad block extensions all the way, but when using the youtube app on phones or smart tvs I pause the ad and there's an option you can pick to stop seeing this ad. I kept doing this for political ads until all I see now are ads for food brands.

I need to get around to setting up a Pihole. That does similar blocking for non-browser based devices.

Unfortunately those don't help so much with youtube ads in particular. Great for loooots of other things though, A+ do recommend PiHole
As far as YT app alternatives go (for Android devices):
- if you don't mind still getting ad rolls when streaming to another device, YouTube Vanced is basically a recompile of the YT app itself with much of that crap removed. Has all the functionality of the app itself, but I at least still got ads when streaming to my Chromecast
- cutting out the chaff entirely, NewPipe is a built-from-scratch alternative. There are some downsides, like no support for casting, no way to just browse recommended videos (since that requires Google tracking) and while you can import your subscription list from YT there's no "latest subscription videos" page that I can find **
- alternatively, why not just watch YT from a mobile browser? Grab Firefox, install uBlock, you can still fullscreen the actual video and frankly the browser version is less annoying to use than the actual app, IMO...
* install the manager from vanced.app and let it handle all the dependencies for you
** you're likely best off just installing the F-Droid app store itself and installing it from there, as that will then also keep it up to date
Also, one or both of the alternative apps support background streaming, where you can just pop the video into a picture-in-picture thumbnail you move to the side and do something else while watching it, without having to pay YT a premium.

There is also Smart YouTube TV for set-top boxes and android TVs, which means you use a remote control to navigate instead of trying to figure out a workaround for something that doesn't have a touchscreen.
That said, you'll have to side-load it to whatever device you want to use it on. You don't need root to run the program though.

The end of the council scene just getting ruined by him running in legit made me burst out laughing.

Drawfee animated - The Fool
Definitely my favourite YouTube moment of 2020

"But are we doing Drawfee themed tarot cards??"
"... What is happening here? Am I going insane?"
That episode has a lot of good bits, The Fool is top tier though
I think like 1 in 70 or so? There are 2 extra cards and like 10 major arcana, right?
