I really want to find a bottled ranch that I find tasty so I can sate myself in the times I want a salad but don't want to go through the effort of making homemade ranch dressing. Unfortunately everything I've tried so far has sucked: shelf-stable premade ranch sucks because of the extra preservatives and shit they need to add to it to make it shelf stable and all of the refrigerated premade ranch I've had so far was apparently in the "this is for dipping" category rather than "this is for putting on salad" one since they were so thick I couldn't pour them, I had to spoon them out of the jar.
I’ve only had bottled ranch dressing and while I could see the appeal, it kinda sucked. I figure I need to try some homemade stuff to really get down with it
my position on ranch is that it is fine, I keep a bottle in the fridge for the odd craving, but I don't put it on anything but salad
scratchmade ranch, however, is fuckin' delicious and one of the first things I'm gonna do once we can do shit again is go to this one bar that serves it with their tater tots
When I had a bottle that was still mostly full and getting toward the end of its life, and needed other things to put it on, I hit upon pouring a little into the scraped-out skins of baked potatoes. Num.

My wife was suitably impressed when she tried the zero chicken burger last year.
I ended up making my own KFC herbs and spices mix from a youtube channel during our first lockdown, and I'll be damned if it isn't as close as I'll ever get to that crack cocaine like coating.

Speaking of, which kfc blend was it that you liked?
It was from the Glen and Friends youtube channel. linky
This was the blend they thought was best, and what I went for though I use 60g per 200g plain flour and don't bother brining. The smell of the spice mix is overpoweringly clove and allspice, which worried me at first, but when deep fried with flour on chicken, it is, to my taste, pretty damn close.
Dustin’s Recipe with MSG:
28g (1oz) White Pepper
28g (1oz) Black Pepper
14g (.5oz) Garlic Salt
7g (.25oz) Sage
7g (.25oz) Coriander
7g (.25oz) Ginger
7g (.25oz) Cayenne
3.5g (.125oz) Clove
3.5g (.125oz) Allspice
3.5g (.125oz) Savory
1.8g (.0625oz) Marjoram
1.8g (.0625oz) Thyme
340g (12oz) salt
25g msg
Tested 40g spice mix with 200g cake flour
2 tsp spice in 4 cups water brine

Lucky me I have not had actual kfc in... probably over a decade so I won't know the difference. But hopefully I can use this as a base to re create bojangles cajun recipe. It's the far superior fried chicken option but it's regional even in the us south. (And seemingly not in any city in the south either, I think the margins are too low for expensive real estate)
Powdered ranch makes burgers taste extra zingy and that's about all I have ever used ranch for. Cool ranch doritos are the better of the doritos flavors though.
not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me
Ever since I found out that MSG is fine, actually, I’ve been testing it out in dishes. I gotta say, I wish I’d been doing this for the last 15 years or so.

Same here. And now I have a load of it thanks to making a huge batch of the KFC spice.

You won't (often?) find it in supermarket spice racks. Maybe in the baking aisle near the salt - I usually pick it up at asian grocers where it's more common.

beaver brand is okay
there was also a brief period of time in which Trader Joe's had this jalapeno dill tartar sauce and it was unbelievably good
their standard tartar sauce is the worst I've ever had by a wide margin
yeah I used to do the same thing with A1
Is this similar to the sauce from currywurst?

People tend to use chicken as a common comparison for taste so I have to assume so
I've had it, it's nice but not as good as real chicken.

They were a bit of a faff to make. But excellent.

There is ALOT of cheese in that. The burg has fetta in it. Then you top it with cheese.
