i would think getting to make the movie and making X million dollars regardless of how well it does would be "enough" for some people...maybe not though?

Ehhh, I see that. You want the thing you've done to succeed and be good, especially since you have been hoping for it for years.

That poor movie is going to lose so much money at the box office. It's just going to give the chuds more ammo to claim that no one wants these movies.
Shang-Chi looks fucking badass and I can't wait to see it. But I'm not going to the theater again any time soon. Around here, COVD is back to pre vaccination levels thanks to the stubbornness of idiots. There was a small, tiny window last month where my local numbers had been in the single digits, Delta hadn't spread here yet, and everything was starting to feel like it was getting back to normal. I went and saw Black Widow in an actual movie theater. I got popcorn and everything. The theater was nice and quiet, I got to sit my my favorite row (right behind the handicap row), had empty seats on either side of me, and enjoyed Black Widow on the BIG screen. Now, just a month later I can't see myself doing that again, for a very long time.
As much as I want to, I'm just not going to risk my health or the health of my mother (she's living in my guest bedroom awaiting hip surgery) to go see Shang-Chi or any other theater exclusive film. If I gotta wait and watch it die a slow painful death at the box office, I will.

I really want to see Shang-Chi but also I am really terrified of going to the theaters.
My mother and I have had Hamilton tickets for a show in Atlanta from before the pandemic, and it's finally gonna be performing in September and I'm still not sure we should go.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
I'm pretty much in the same boat. Numbers got low enough that I risked it to see F9, and I felt kinda stupid while doing it. With Black Widow I figured two tickets is close to $25 so paying $5 more for the Disney+ version and avoiding the theater was kind of a no brainer. Plus I didn't have to pay $6.75 for a plate of crappy tortilla chips and nacho cheese.
With Shang-Chi, unless a miracle happens with the numbers around here, it'll be the first MCU film I don't see in the first week since, like, probably Iron Man 2.

The show I went to was the saturday matinee which was just ~$7 per ticket. I also had a free popcorn on my club card from my birthday a month earlier. I was out of there for less than $10 after I upsized my popcorn to a med. I drive an electric car so even the cost of getting to the theater was minimal. All that is to say I had every reason to go. By the time The Suicide Squad came out, COVID was ramping back up and I just didn't feel comfortable going to the theater again.
Going to go see Infinity War and Endgame were 2 of the best theater going experiences of my life. The entire audience was 100% invested in what was going on and everyone was on the proverbial edge of their seat. My audience actually cheered briefly when Cap picked up Mjolnir for the first time and again during the "assemble" scene. I wonder if we're ever going to have that kind of experience again. As hype as those scenes were, they just aren't the same watching them at home, even with a small group. You need an entire audience to capture that kind of magic.
I don't know what I'm doing yet. Illinois isn't THAT bad, comparatively. Maybe I'll take the day off and see it at a very early showing on a weekday, when there would be maybe three people in the theater?
Sigh. Maybe Disney will blink and Disney+ it after all? Though after the Scarlett fiasco, that's not likely without a hastily renegotiated contract.
You know what? Nanowrimo's cancelled on account of the world is stupid.
I mean, Shang chi was supposed to be their test bed for a shorter theater exclusivity window (only 6 weeks instead of 3 months). Though with the way things are going, they're not going to be getting that much useful data
Last night I rewatched Iron Man 1 and 2 for whatever reason, and then realized I never actually watched Ant-man 1. I think when it came out I was still bitter it wasn't an Edgar Wright joint. It's the only MCU flick I've never watched.
So anyways I'm watching it now, it's not bad. Polkadot Man is in this! It's good
Ok and now I'm watching Captain America 1
So Cap can't get drunk because of the serum... But could he get stoned? Someone give him a 1000mg edible and see how he does

He could probably get drunk if he downed a fifth of basically pure ethanol, but he'd still probably burn through it pretty quick. It just doesn't seem like he can get drunk through drinking normally, it's too slow. An edible probably wouldn't do it, but maybe if you turned a room into a giant bong and just completely saturated the air?
He still human so he shouldn't be totally immune to stuff like alcohol, just hugely resistant to the negative effects.
I was gonna watch all of phase 1 but apparently Hulk isn't on D+?
I just realized that I have never seen the MCU Hulk movie. That and the Spider-Man movies are the only ones I haven't seen, and I'd watch the Spider-Man ones if they were on a streaming service had access to.

There was some scuttlebutt it would be on D+ next year but I’ve not seen anything official yet. Spider-Man will be on D+ next year, and I think not just the MCU films but the Sony films too. Venom I don’t think will be, and we still haven’t seen any conclusive idea of what Sony’s bootleg MCU is supposed to look like yet.

It's okay but definitely something made before the Marvel formula was a thing. Serviceable but a little boring.

The human metabolism prioritizes alcohol above most other chemicals so I guess they are implying Cap burns it off too quick to feel the sedative effects of alcohol.
But that plot device makes me sad we never got a scene of him going to town on giant platter of hamburgers like the Flash or getting kicked out of a buffet.

I kind of like how Richard Madden's character is basically "Superman but yellow eye-lasers." They don't even give a shit. Marvel apparently decided that since the best version DC could come up with was on the CW it was fair game for them to just say "Okay we'll do him justice on the big screen" and make him part of an ensemble of weirdos in probably the biggest gamble film they've made in seven years.

I'm still not exactly bowled over by the new Eternals trailer, but at least it looks much less awkward and hokey now.
I do hope, though, that Zhao will get something approaching an engaging performance out of Kit Harrington. Even at his best during the eight seasons of Game of Thrones, he needed the kind of buildup you get with TV series to make the character work. In a movie, he's got under three hours to make us care.

How long until Marvel just says fuck it and brings in Hyperion, who may or may not be played by Henry Cavill.
This latest Eternals trailer was the most "What if Marvel made a DC superhero film" feeling yet.
I've always felt the difference between Marvel heroes and DC heroes were that Marvel emphasized that superheroes could be anyone, and DC emphasized how superheroes are better and different from everyone. This property definitely feels like more of the latter.

Looking at his imdb... why do you even know who Kirk Fox is?
Obviously from his brilliant performance in Dogtor.

True, I'll be wearing a mask and wiping things down for sure
Oh, I didn't know this was a crossover with the Sonic franchise!
