I'll never forget that Rook (I think - it might have been Eight Rooks, but I think it was Rook) actually sent me their copy of Pathologic more than a decade ago. Never did actually beat it but that was very nice of them.
I really should give DS2 another chance (is it even on steam? I never checked), but god I just bounced off that one super hard when I first played it
And I do mean that literally, I accidently joined the "lmao everything has a ton of health and is more difficult" covenant without realizing it, and spent a good 5 hours trying to figure out why my weapons were just always breaking before I could kill one of the early bosses.

DARK SOULS™ II: Scholar of the First Sin is on Steam yeah. Currently $9.99 in the US during the holiday sale (next 40 hours).
Dark Souls 2 remains my favorite of the Souls series and I don't even know why. It just is. Elden Ring will likely supplant it but that's not quite a Souls thing so maybe not?

Yeah all the From games are on Steam.
Well, not all of them. Sadly not the best FROM game.

It's a better game by a large margin. It doesn't have the thirst trap characters, unending charm of the voice actors, and the ability to pet a good boy, but the gameplay, mood, and visuals of HLD are both fairly unique and extremely strong. Something I found lacking in Hades.
Yeah, Bloodborne is the only one that isn't. I have Sekiro on Steam. Currently $29.99.
I'm not kidding about 3D Dot Game Heroes, either. Honestly, if I could only port one FROM game to the PC, without hesitation it would be 3D Dot Game Heroes over Bloodborne, as good as Bloodborne is.
Also huuuuuuge disagree on HLD being a better game than Hades, but I'll see if anyone else wants to take up that fight cause I don't think I'm passionate enough about Hades to commit the knife.
But basically HLD was fun for a playthrough, while Hades consumed my fucking soul for a good month and a half.

I also, just, flat out despise roguelikes and roguelites. Anything I do is gone then so is my interest.
Despite that, Hades combat felt floaty and imprecise. I'd even put something like Unsighted as having a better combat system.
I'm generally the same way, but Hades had just enough gameplay progression carry over between runs to keep me from getting discouraged, and watching the characters and relationships grow over time was a joy.
I have had trouble getting into HLD. Maybe I'll load it up now to check it out.
My biggest problem was coming back to HLD. I had to set it down for a few weeks and when I came back I had absolutely no idea what the fuck was going on or what I was supposed to do or how I was supposed to do it
If the game had caught me at a different time, when I could've just lost myself to it for a while, I wouldn't be surprised if I held more affection for it. But instead my lingering memory is "Oh, I liked that thing, and then I realized it was passively hostile to me having a life and a job"

I loved his relationships and that slightly awkward bit where after you beat a boss the first time you talk to them in Tartarus. Meg was awesome.
The combat just couldn't hold my interest, and if the gameplay is weak then the rest of the game won't be able to overcome it these days.
Hades was secretly a bullet hell game. Combat wasn't floaty, it's just the goal is simply to zone where damage won't be and unload DPS in the right direction.

I hear you.
I really appreciate games that give a decent reminder of the things you've done, for exactly that reason.
Take, for example, Inscryption. I love the game, but I was playing very late two nights ago and my memory retention is not the best when I've been up playing a game. The next morning I turned it on and I completely forgot some of the mechanics. I forgot what certain things did. I didn't want to go have to go look that stuff up, but the game had no way for me to remind myself of the mechanics in-game. That's a mild example, but the same is true for narrative games especially RPGs.
If I lose steam in an RPG, my save becomes worthless in a couple of weeks because I just can't take a break halfway through a narrative adventure especially if it has no recap or anything.

as long as we're on the subject of roguelikes
remove NetHack
add Risk of Rain 2
i mean c'mon, nethack doesn't even have music let alone a bangin, richly textured sci-fi prog rock soundscape
Good-practice question: We shouldn't re-add the same game over and over. Are we free to knife a game we knifed before?
Opinion: if you can only add a game once, you should only be able to knife a game once. If you want a game knifed again, just like adding, you should have to convince someone to do it for you.
-You cannot add or replace the same game more than once per person.* If you really think Bubsy needs to be on this list, or Mega Man Battle Network 4 Blue Moon doesn't, you'll have to convince others.
It's one of my all time favorite games that I still play through at least once every couple of years. It's the first 4x game (predates Civilization by 2 years).
I currently have no power because of hail.
So no posts.
Also real time Invisible Inc kicks everything (with the conceit that you can't save until you've left the mission area)
And it's the natural progression from Risk of Rain so it's your own fault.
Also I need a list of knifed games apparently.
Or I will just assume that I can knife all of Speed's Puyo Puyos indiscriminately
I like the soundtrack to Risk of Rain 1 more than 2, but with the caveat that I played a ton of 2 during beta until we got burned out and I haven't touched it in full release.
Satellite Reign, even though I don't know if it will stick around was a pleasant surprise that I ended up beating in co-op mode. It's a little clunky, but so was Syndicate and a true spiritual successor. That neon hits.

DS2's rehab from "worst game ever" to "you know, this shit's alright!" to "actually my favorite" in the fanbase has been great.
Because it's a good game! It's not my favorite game, especially not the unrelenting Reddit-bro gankfest of SOTFS, but it's still damn good.

you don't need to, there are 43 other games on there that you could cut instead to make room for Hades

What
Add Jagged Alliance 2 Gold
Played off of the first game (which still holds up today!) while expanding your choices of mercs, weaponry, tactics and strategy.
The reveal of Mike and your mercenary's reactions to it were great, Deidranna was a petty, cruel and outstanding villain.
add Sword of Aragon

if a game someone else knifed gets put back, you’re allowed to remove it, provided you haven’t already done so
