Why do people REFUSE to use their phone like a phone and think they are ment to be used on speakerphone
The only times I use it this way is when I'm trying to get the kids to talk to someone too or when I'm trying to do something while talking and need both hands. I would be embarrassed to do it in public around other people.
i didn't find outer wilds emotionally affecting. i got what the ending was going for but i didn't care about any of the characters because i hadn't interacted with any of them enough
Even without that I felt plenty emotionally invested in the actual plot and happenings
When you get into the museum in the eye and it tells you that you that you just happened to be unlucky enough to be born at the end of the universe I felt like it was a pretty strong gut punch, and while you might not have gotten much exposure to the characters if you didn't come back to them repeatedly, I still felt something at each of them accepting the fact that this was the end
Yeah the final bonfire didn't really do anything for me. Never much liked sci-fi going full space magic at the last second to try and be deep. But everything else had a lot of pathos for me.

Trying to help my mom pick out a laptop.
So many options... even with her rock solid requirements. >.< Also I feel bad because we missed an Easter Sale for a model she really liked.
Had an excellent lunch today: panini with poached egg, gruyere, I think fried prosciutto, and a spicy tomato jam that wasn't ketchup, along with a warm potato salad heavy on dill and vinegar and crispy onions
Good work Montreal

Witcher 3 AND Cyberpunk both made me well up.
Witcher 3
Both finding Ciri and the good ending got me good.
Cyberpunk
V pleading with Viktor to fix the shard and the suicide ending both got me good. The part with V and Johnny in the hotel in Pacifica was really great. The story in that game was so good, I wish the game itself was better.
But yeah Homeworld has already been brought up as a great gut punch. Like when the cryotrays come under attack and I’m in full panic mode trying to save the last of my people and on my first try I only saved like two trays

trying to keep my mind off bad stuff........
So I'm working on ACAB. I don't know what theming to give the Ritualist class's Knacks (Passives) and Tricks (Actives). so far i used/am planning to use these themes:
Aspect Thief = Crime Movies
Artificer = Programming/Conspiracy terminology
Bard = Song Titles
Divinomancer = Astrology Stuff
Adept = Shonen Anime titles
Caster = Video Games
Transmuter = alchemical stuff
spellfist = Fighting Game Terminology
Ritualist = ?????
Shapechanger = Horror Movies
Charlatan = Scam/conman terminology
Summoner = Mythology
I'm just at a loss what's mainstream-understood yet occult in nature...

I feel like calling a knack lake "Knave of Swords" wouldn't be quite as easy to understand as the passive "Yomi" which lets a Spellfist use Predict.
But at the same time, the flavor is strong.
but on the third hand, i already use the tarot deck instead of dice.
Half Life made me feel fear for the first time in a video game. Test Chamber, Silo and On a Rail levels especially.
iirc Valve was inspired by Steven King’s The Mist, as a what if you were at ground zero at Project Arrowhead when the button was pressed.

ya you can’t reuse tarot for this cause you already use it
can you come up with enough like very traditional -feeling magic accoutrements to name shit after, dribbly candles, summoning circles, magic mirror etc? Basically all the stuff you would find in a wizard’s room in a tower, but also maybe in an occultist’s room if they read too much alistair crowley or w/e

There's also the modern ideal of musicians being magic or selling their souls to the devil/evil spirit in order to obtain their talent, and songs themselves are actually spells which is why they evoke a very strong response.
Not to mention all the "satanic panic" of Metal in the 1990's, where they talk about playing records backwards containing Satanic worship hidden in normal words.

The main issue is that if i go
"cockerel blood candles" as a knack, it doesn't really make sense to a character who uses a spell circles to cast magic to take....
And the other problem with occult stuff is that by definition, it's not super mainstream (I have that problem for the Divinomancer class that uses astrology and that shit is impenetrably named. not a fan of overusing it.)
Hm when I think about emotionally affecting videogames, I definitely separate out games that had a personal impact on me from games that made me care about their characters/had me invested in the characters.
A well-told story like Mass Effect, I cared about the characters; a game like Undertale, I felt in myself. I actually cannot off the top of my head think of or recall a lot of games in the ‘personal impact’ category. Undertale, Cyberpunk 2077 with the Arasaka ending. Ummm…hm. Really not sure what else right now.
Then I think there’s the category of games that create some sort of resonance in aesthetic or mood but don’t necessary inspire emotions per se. For this I have Cultist Simulator and Dark Souls/Elden Ring.
