I can't get Alt highlighting to work at all. Not sure what's up with that.Enjoying Sorcerer so far though. Chain lightning with ice armor for the mana regen.
I know this is for now the Diablo 4 only thread for obvious reasons, but I have to post that I just watched Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and the White Wolf is totally Malthael from D3 Reaper of Souls.
Also met the butcher. He killed me and disappeared. I was very concerned I broke something. But I think the butcher is just roaming around dungeons randomly.
One other note: It feels really good on a controller. You can tell controller is a first class citizen, which makes sense given that it's getting a simultaneous console release. It also blends control schemes without any hitching or weird issues. So if you're like me and like to play moment to moment with a controller, but do a lot of your inventory management with a mouse, it's a completely seamless experience which is a really nice touch.
I played for like 4 hours tonight using a controller, can confirm that It Just Works (tm).
On the Sorc front, Chain Lightning is still my go-to attack, but Hydra has been putting in some work.
I've dumped a couple of points into ball lightning and have an item that gave it another skill level but it just feels so bad to use
Pure lightning is starting to fall off a bit, especially in the single target dps department. I have lots of tools for decent clear but nothing that is relatively mana efficient to put the hurt onto elites and bosses. My other gripe is that I've had not a single legendary drop with any of the skills* I've selected. I think if I have some time tomorrow I may poke around at reworking my skill tree though at level 24 this character is basically maxed out on the beta content.
*spark w/ stacking crit, chain lightning w/ crackling energy on crit, teleport with dmg reduction, ice armor (from gear), lightning spear w/ bonus damage from crackling energy stacks, ball lightning w/ 4 hits on an enemy give crackling energy. Idea being to generate tons of stacks of the crackling energy for keeping trash off me, plus it massively buffs the lightning spear and hoping that the mana when picking up energy would give better sustain on the chain lightning. Alas, it does not.
I went into a dungeon alone (the one where you can getthe aspect for Incinerate, near Mederana (?), I slogged through it, got to the boss, and that is a werewolf boss that charges more regularly than your Run and Teleport can recharge, so he always hits. I beat his first phase but it cost me 3 potions, and the bastard has 4 phases.
It really felt undoable, but then again, I have a dagger that gives me Execute on Lucky Hit and +6 INT and no way that I’m going not use that.
It feels really weird for a Diablo storyline that the enemies level with you (because of the open world aspect), because it is as if regardless the level you have, you always need to hit an enemy for at least 5 basic hits. I do want to feel that I’ve progressed by one-shotting Fallen or Skeletons.
EDIT: And yes, a Treasure Goblin led me to my death when my greed resulted in kiting 20 enemies including 2 bears. I almost had him!
Also met the butcher. He killed me and disappeared. I was very concerned I broke something. But I think the butcher is just roaming around dungeons randomly.
I kind of love the idea of The Butcher roaming random dungeons, killing people and being a dick. Very on brand.
Should be ok as long as we don't let him get to 200 meat.
So I was looking for some combination of skills that works better than chain lightning, which is a popular choice but is terrible for dealing with large packs. Turns out Ice Shards and Frost Nova synergize really, really well once you unlock enchantments. The Ice Shards enchantment auto-fires shards at frozen enemies, which includes Frost Nova. Kills during Frost Nova reduce the cooldown of Frost Nova by up to 6 seconds. I think with enough +rank gear in Frost Nova to bring its cooldown under 6 seconds you could basically just run around nova bombing packs of enemies at a time.
I don't think I'll hit 30 during the beta (turns out the level cap is 25) to reach the next enchantment slot but I think if I can also get Ice Blades enchanted I can also get Ice Blade spawns every time I nova, as if I need more Win More skills at that point.
Edit: I just got the codex enchantment that lets ice shards pierce, and... let's just say there are no proc restrictions. lol.

The beta is capped at 25 so I don't think you will either.
Hell yeah when I load it up I get to sit through the queue and then the game says its unable to find a valid license error 315306, sweet
But my boyfriends chicken sandwich code worked for him so I put in a support ticket and I'll just play on his account since no progress is carried over anyway
See if you can get yours fixed if you care about the puppy backpack thing, that caries over if you hit level 20

This game is apparently murdering NVIDIA 3080 Ti cards, specifically when the game segues into cutscene mode (it makes my regular 3080 chug and max out fans)
People are saying that turning down textures and shadows can help somewhat but there's a very real risk of losing your card permanently right now so be wary (multiple tech support threads about it)

Yikes. Is it just the 3080 TI specifically or are other NVIDIA's reporting too?
Also, zero queue time this morning so that's nice.

Just Ti from what I've read, also the game has a very bad memory leak and will chew through vram until it forces a crash to desktop or bluescreen (I've experienced both, it ate all 24GB of vram on my card which is frankly ridiculous)
It seems like it doesn't purge assets once it's loaded and you have moved onto another area
So the “leveling with you” thing doesn’t seem as exact at least. I wandered off and found level 8s while 6, and seemingly now that I’m a little over-leveled I’m fighting 10s while 11.
And there are a LOT of side dungeons, so if they stayed the level they were originally then going back to them later to unlock aspects would be really weird.
For my Sorc I've just gone all-in on anything with Crackling Energy. Not sure if it's the wisest, but getting the job done so far
Not had any issues other than the time I couldn't go into cellars and dungeons. Also some rubberbanding near the city, but that seems to be a symptom of the online nature.
No memory leaks or anything, even with a 10-hour session. And I'm on an old 1070ti
Oh and for crafting concerns, by the time I got the quest to upgrade my potion, I had way more materials than I needed without going out of my way for them at all.
Decided to peek at the performance with seemingly no queues (was able to get in immediately) and. . .nope. It's a server issue. Game is next to unplayable for me with the rubberbanding which is 100% an issue on their backend and not tech related (tech isn't going to cause your character to reset positions in a dungeon).
. . .also they need to change the target priority for spells when using a controller. The TOMB LORD boss was bad enough as is with the rubberbanding (like a 2 minute fight that took 10 minutes), but when your spells target stupid structures instead of enemies it just feels bad on top of everything else.
What's wild is that no way did they not know this was and continues to be an issue.
I totally get where @Lucascraft is coming from about seeing other players. Had the unfortunate experience of running into a mage named ChinaVirus several times last night.
I'm considering giving this a shot, depending on how the whole season pass mechanic goes. I'm watching a full playthrough of the beta right now and it looks like it would scratch that MMO esque itch, but after how they handled Overwatch and the pass stuff, I'm wary to buy in early.
EDIT I'm saying season pass but maybe I mean battlepass. Similar but not the same thing.

Yeah slightly different. Battle Pass is purely cosmetic stuff I think, a seasonal pass usually includes gameplay expansions and additional content.
Is there a list of what is in the Battle Pass yet?

I hit 20 with sorc (played full cold with frost bolt/ice shards/frost nova/teleport/blizzard), didn't die once but came close vs some of the bosses
not sure I enjoy the bosses having 4 phases where they vanish and summon adds etc, doesn't really feel very diablo

Maghda, Belial, Azmodan, Adria, Malthael
One could argue that that is where the WoW influence was strongest, and made it also un-Diablo like
I'm not really on side or the other, if it's well done, I'm okay with phases to add some spice to boss encounters, but it did feel off that when you did your lategame runs that the screen would fade and fade again, when I would prefer the bosses just to pop and be done
Did a Stronghold where I had to fight several bosses at once, but I managed it, and now that Stronghold is a town with a waypoint!
As a fire sorc the way to15 can be painful, but once I unlocked enchantments and took the Fireball enchament (something like “All kills with your skills make enemies explode for 50% of their skill damage”, which means, yeah, this Chain Lightning that I didn’t buy makes them explode too), my Hydra became a murder machine, and I started murdering a bit too
Really important is that as soon as you get to level 10 or 20, go upgrade your Health potion!
And I’m getting boots that gives me an extra Evade charge, which is mightily useful.
Overall I’m pretty happy with the game; skill tree is interesting, items are interesting (especially with +1 to skills you don’t have) and I like the Lucky Hit mechanic.
There is a lot to do in the world; loads of sidequests and dungeons, and exploration is encouraged.
The only really bad thing is that you can’t reset campaign quests; I joined someones party yesterday, and I still had to go to the East for the campaign quest, but he didn’t so he took me in a dungeon and there was suddenly an escort of a girl and a guy. We got to where Lilith appeared, but then he quit the party. As a result, I am now in Quest step 2 of 4, and I don’t know how I got there. If I could reset a campaign quest (or even quest step) it wouldn’t be so bad, but now it’s a nuissance.
TL;DR: Game is fun, don’t play in a party when doing campaign quests.
Was running a Fireball sorc, but then I found a ring that restores mana everytime Chain Lightning bounces through me.
So I respec'd to chain lightning and now I murder bosses because the lightning just bounces back and forth between us restoring mana, allowing near constant casting.

That's interesting--I happen to be on an RTX 3080 Ti (one of the last models put out by EVGA), and I'm not getting much audio feedback from the fans, but I will say the cinematics are...rather inconsistent (at 2160p). Part of that is deliberate timing; a few are intended to run at 60, some seem like they're intended to run at ~30, a few are clearly supposed to be 60 but drop to 30.
I'm actually playing the game at 144 hz as my upper limit, with DLSS set to "Quality" (I previously had it set to "Performance", and realized I was maxing out 144 hz so I decided to experiment), it was ~90 in exterior environments (which so far is just...snow drifts), and closer to 144 in interior areas. But I've just run into a few very large mob groups and nothing where I'm absolutely drowning in them, and my rogue is only around level 9, so it's not like I have access to particularly flashy techniques.
Rubberbanding has been dramatically improved from this morning. Redid Mercy and had zero issues (was unplayable before).
. . .also replaying Mercy got me to see more of the randomness and they're really trying to make all these dungeons interesting long term. I just got out of one that was a trap room before the boss. With you having to manually carry the unlock devices for that dungeon, I'm starting to think that they might try and bring some WoW-esque dungeons into this (albeit ones that you can complete solo) with gimmicks and the likes (the bosses already are mini-boss encounters already; I'm sure higher level encounters will lean even more on this).
I was able to play just until hitting Kyovashad, where I picked up a waypoint and saw that apparently there was a waypoint back in the first little town area with the chapel? I tried running back there to where it looked like there was supposed to be a waypoint, but nothing was clickable. It kind of looked like it was snow covered but hard to tell since the visuals are so blendy in this. Did I miss something or what?
Got my word to 20 and rolled up a barb (got to get every class to 20!).
I think I overall like barb better so far, but then i did a dungeon with a spider boss that kept doing knockback-poison-entangle while running away and omg I died a whole bunch. Got him eventually though.
So far I haven’t been dc’d except for that one time yesterday morning, so things do seem to be stabilizing somewhat.
