I would love it if the rest of the season’s arc was just a lot of villainous monologuing being abruptly and violently ended by Rogue just flying into the scene and punching them into space

"We'll stop her from doing it when it stops working out for us."
so, obviously who is the hero of the story is going to change things, but what, in general terms, is rogues strength vs hulk?
She's not as strong as him (no one in Marvel is), but theoretically she could drain him.
While she can drain people, the Hulk has been way past her capabilities for a while now. For one thing, she's been shown to struggle with strong personalities or their experiences so simply draining people isn't always that straightforward. In the series in particular, she absorbed power from Juggernaut and he suffered no major ill effects but she wasn't able to handle the mess he calls a brain. And if she couldn't handle Juggernaut, I don't see any way she could handle any single personality of the Hulk (there are several, after all), nevermind she'd have to deal with all of them at once. Almost immediately dropping into a psychotic rage would be the likely outcome.
In terms of sheer power, again, Hulk is way off her scale. It would be extremely doubtful she could keep hold of him long enough to take a significant portion of his strength, seeing as he has single-handedly (and willingly) fueled a whole species of life-draining space parasites for at least days in order to keep them peaceful and lucid while waiting to send them home. It did actually drain him enough to nullify the Hulk body briefly, but he was a willing participant the whole time.
I'd put her closer to Ben Grimm than Hulk. And Ben Grimm has fought (and even briefly won against) the Hulk, but almost always by being clever or at significant physical cost. But it's always been victory in the sense of making the Hulk want to go away, not actually keeping Hulk down. Rogue is also a skilled combatant so she could probably beat Hulk with skill and cunning but again, it wouldn't be the kind of win that sticks for long.
Nah she is way past The Thing in terms of strength. Her power set is 100% identical to Carol Danvers who is way past him on that scale. Rogue got her powers by using her abilities on Carol for so long Rogue nearly killed Carol. The side effect was permanently* gaining her abilities in addition to her own. Her only natural super power is the power stealing. She could 100% go toe to toe with him long enough to do it as seen by hanging with Juggernaut who is on the upper end of the scale typically as well. I am pretty certain she has absorbed Hulk's powers in the past as well to unfortunate effect. I don't think that happened in the TV series, but it has been forever since I watched the old episode. I think it usually ends with her not being able to control her anger or some such.
*The comics had her lose that power set to be replaced with Sunfire's for a time because of weird stuff with him. I don't remember where that resolved currently. In the show she not lost Carol's powers.

I’m just imaging the mission debriefing with Scott screaming at everyone, “The X-Men don’t kill people!” and every single other person giving each other confused looks like, “Since when?”
Logan’s like, “I’ve killed, like, 200 people, Scotty, everyone knows this. I’ve killed people in this room. I killed your wife, like, twice,”
Looked up the Blind Guardian setlist for this tour. There's like 6 variable songs in the set, fuck! They played Ashes to Ashes 2 times on the tour in the US so far and if they don't play it at the show I'm going to I will cry.
Rogue is definitely not way past Ben Grimm in terms of strength. Rogue has, in the past, taken Grimm by surprise and drained him with a kiss, but there's no guarantee she could do the same just by touching his armored hide (it's still ambiguous if it's more like armor or more like skin) or if he's expecting the attempt. Grimm has faced off against Hulk, Namor, Thor, etc, and has been beaten, but he's also won by being clever or determined. He's got a lot of experience with hand-to-hand combat with opponents his strength or stronger and is a top-notch grappler, whereas Rogue is used to just punching through the stuff the X-Men face. When events forced him to face off against an army of weird spore versions of himself, he made weapons by crushing entire cars into the size of bowling ball and mashed a building down into a sword; I don't think Rogue is strong or durable enough to do that. I would also put Grimm down as considerably more durable than Rogue.
Of course it always comes down to the writer and whose comic it is, but Rogue is far from a clear-cut winner in this case.
Rogue has gone toe to toe with Hulk, Namor, Thor, etc. She has absorbed Hulk's powers. Again she has Captain Marvel's power set, and she is way up there in strength. Modern Rogue has Wonder Man's powers so is significantly weaker, but we are talking classic Rogue so yeah. Can Captain Marvel (IE Marvel's Superman with combat training) take them? If yes then so can Rogue because she has all those powers, abilities, memories, and training in addition to her own.
Edit: I will say I am only trying to talk in terms of power set. I think Rogue wins the fight in both books with Rogue going getting taken out by Sue or through some weird trickery in the F4 books. The Thing saying some line like "I ain't going to hit no dames," before she absorbs his power which backfires for reasons. Whose ever comic it is rule is definitely the ultimate answer but the antiquated, sexist gender dynamics meaning they can't play it straight.
I just finally read an actual Terry Pratchett book after getting an enormous Humble Bundle with like 40 of his books. I started with Monstrous Regiment because someone on Polygon mentioned it was a good place to start and it was very good! I love the slow unfolding of more and more shit happening around the main cast, and the fact that it's in that weird space of being unafraid to confront the horrors of war but also aware it's supposed to be a comedy. And the bit with the vampire photographer who keeps turning to dust. Yeah I don't know this isn't really saying anything anyone doesn't know but I'm excited to get through more of these books!
I just read Hummingbird Salamander, and really liked it. It's like a series of panic attacks interspersed with existential dread. Vandermeer often writes protagonists that are detached from the world, but it's a little different this time: the character isn't detached from the world, but she's creating distance between herself and the reader, which is an interesting twist. If you're in the mood for a stressful noir mystery, highly recommend.
On a scale of Annihilation to Dead Astronauts where would you place it? I loved the Southern Reach books, but I found Dead Astronauts a little too... distant I guess? to really enjoy much of it.

Hummingbird Salamander felt very similar to Annihilation to me. I keep feeling there was another book I read recently that feels really similar, but I think that’s a bit of a mix between a protagonist similar to the second Annihilation book, and a similar feeling in some ways to Naomi Alderman’s latest book.
I feel like it’s totally worth a read.

"I will write your name in the ruin of them. I will paint you across history in the color of their blood."
I haven't read Dead Astronauts, sorry. I'd say Annihilation and Borne are both books where the character is distant, like they're observing the world but not really part of it. Hummingbird Salamander is different, she's part of the world, not distant. However, she is distant from the reader. On the first page, for example, she says that she won't tell you her name, but you can think of her as Jane Smith. She won't tell you her husband or daughter's names either, because "then they'll belong to you". She's an unreliable narrator, but she's not unreliable about plot-important details, only descriptions, and she tells you when she's lying or hiding something.

Omg, they had a half serious discussion about whether or not KENDRICK FUCKING PERKINS should be in the hall of fame. I know the 2008 Celtics are the most over celebrated champion ever. I know the hall of fame gets more and more diluted. But KENDRICK PERKINS!?!?
It bugs me a bit that Untold gives the game away so early. (Also, as good as that music is, the track title is a bit of a spoiler. Of course, with how old the original game is at this point... I'm also not sure how much it matters)
It appears the Suns were indeed the broken ass team they appeared to be. They had some high moments that could trick you, and damn at some point I figured the whole "11-1 against the Wolves" thing might count for something, but nope.
It's so bad I almost feel kind of bad for KD! But he chose his fate at the end of the day.

Has any superstar ever had better teammates and done less with them than KD? That dude only has like, 2 seasons (his first 2) without at least 1 all NBA level teammate, and hes often had 2.
In my pantheon, i had KD above Steph for a long time, but when i realized how good his teams have been, and how little theyve won (literally 0 finals appearances without Warriors, and only like 2 conference final appearances otherwise), hes not at that level. Hell, hes not even probably at Giannis's level (or Jokic). Hes prob more like Embiid. A dynamite scorer and talent who hasnt won like youd expect (also, both have had bad luck, esp Embiid)

He made the NBA Finals with the Thunder.
Haha yeah, you're right. Surprised i forgot that.
That flagrant on okogie. . . I hate how the announcers (especially ex players) just start ranting about how in their day it wasnt a flagrant foul. It had the wind up, the follow through, not being a play on the ball, all of it. Sure, gobert didnt roll around for 5 mins like lebron, but that shit was not a basketball play. I dont need need any random head chops in the general vicinity of the basketball in my nba, even if it threatend Richard Jeffersons manhood.
But ejection though? Flagrant 1 at best.
West playoffs staring at two, possibly three sweeps, did not expect that (just the Lakers).
Mini Clubhouse, so basically the same.
They didn't even calibrate the brakes, so that's what I have to do today
Edit: is it normal for the back wheel with Nexus hub gear and e-motor to not turn so easily and make like a "chhhhh" sound? Or another thing that goes on the bad bike shop list?

Carol got a power boost when she became Binary. As Captain Marvel she isn't quite as powerful, but still significantly more powerful than she was as Ms. Marvel.

Hmm, I have a derailleur, I did notice some crunchiness to the Bosch motor, I feel it mostly in vibrations in the pedals, and it's certainly a lot more resistance to turn the rear wheel by hand, but it's something I would ask about.
Compared how well our other bikes' rear wheels with hub gears are coasting.
My alfine is like silent and super easy going, while the Nexus on my wife's bike sounds and feels similarly "rough" and also a bit dragging, but not as much as the new one's.
So maybe I'm just used to better quality. Gonna ask the closest shop for an opinion anyway.
Oh that sounds great, Dead Astronauts had a chapter that was just an all-caps sentence repeating for like 50 paragraphs and several chapters from the perspective of like a dead turtle I think? Significantly more abstracted in a way I didn't really find engaging.

I visited my grandad today. He's 90 and I'm glad to still have the one grandparent, but also he has dementia and doesn't know who I am any more and can't really hold a conversation and it fucking sucks! Getting old is bullshit.
But also dying young is bullshit. What gives, life??

Daughter took her first ride on a geared bicycle last weekend and adapted decently.
Walmart special, so gearing is rough but will be enough for her. Weirdest this is the left grip shifter is marked LOW - - - - - - - HIGH. Which implies there's a gradient between High and Low, but it's just a regular 3 front, 6 rear. So that's not super helpful in teaching her how to change.
