I just figured out that dice puzzle thing and now I feel like a complete retard for not getting it a lot sooner.
It's really not a matter of how smart you are. I really think it's more how stubborn you are... the more you insist on looking at the problem mathematically, the harder it's going to be. I'd bet people with more artistic tendencies get it faster than people with more mathematical (possibly academic) tendencies.
Except that there's a reasonably simple mathematical solution to it as well.

there is... but finding it via anything but brute force is going to be difficult, because there are so many distractors

Most people see the values on the dice as numbers, not patterns
You guys do know that the most important rule of the game is that when you know it you're supposed to be a huge douche about it and not help people figure it out yeah?
Oh, the petals thing. Yeah, I solved that in two seconds.
Took me about a minute, but yeah...as soon as you recognise it's bound to be 'lateral thinking' related, there are only a few options considering that clue.
Nah, that's the first thing i thought too, because you get some red dice. But the appearance of red dice seemed too random to make any sense. Then I thought whatever you did to come up with a number had to be multiplied by two since the answer is always even or zero but that zero kept throwing me off so I figured there had to be some subtraction going on somewhere. Because of the name, I kept coming up with some "she loves me/loves me not" algorithms. That is + - + - + or - + - + - which got as complicated as being dependent on the first dice rolled. After having exhausted all of those algorithms, Nerissa mercifully gave a couple of hints which really made me focus on the name again and decide that something had to be the rose. At first i though it was the last die, but couldn't come with anything reasonable to find the answers. 15 minutes later it finally clicked.

Have to say I'm ridiculously pleased with myself whenever I get these things fast, or switch round that left-right brain dancer with ease, even though I totally disagree with IQ style testing in principle.

What's your point?
Stop helping people. The majority of the enjoyment gained from the puzzle is in watching other people fail to figure it out after you have.

This is why the hints are in spoiler tags.

This is like hating Zelda because anyone can beat it.

Thought you might get it pretty quick... noticing the details that most people gloss over helps.

Oh well. I'm dumb then.
I had thought the same thing you though, in your spoiler VC, but was able to figure it out after. Don't lose hope!
