Unless we're talking about actual ethnic goths, it totally is. Who is and who is not a goth is determined by who does and does not call themselves "goth".
Right, except at a goth club, there are going to be a lot of people who call themselves goths that do the same thing. Piercings, tattoos, not just black clothes but a specific style of clothing, makeup; these are all things that goths have/wear that I don't. There's definitely a sense of "who's more hardcore", even if it's not vocalized. That's the issue; I'm far from hardcore gothwise. I'll be a little more comfortable in the bondage room, though, so who knows.
I just told her I'd come, so we'll see what it's like.
If you don't believe Church you're a liar.
Hehe, I remember that conversation.
Really, do you? Funny, that, since nobody besides Dynagrip has ever said anything like that to my knowledge.

Hmmm. There's a chance it wasn't you, but I don't know who else it would be. I distinctly remember somebody arguing that not believing what they said meant that we, the nonbelievers, were liars. It was a pretty entertaining conversation if I recall.

It was Church with regards to people calling his elaborate backstory into question.
See, that's the thing, lots of people say it is. And it's difficult to determine whether it is or isn't because the word goth doesn't mean anything.
The word goth means something to those who are goths or to those improperly being labeled as goths who do not appreciate being labeled as such.
It doesn't mean anything from an etic perspective when you're ignorant to the differences between subcultures.
There is nothing that defines the word "goth" in an objective sense. Therefore it means whatever it is attached to. And from what I can see, the only common denominator between everyone that is labeled or labels themselves "goth" is wearing black.

Seriously though, Goths are kindof silly. Most subcultures are, for that matter.

Is it lameness? Huh? Is it?

It could be, I don't actually know.
Yeah, but nowhere there do I say "You're lying if you don't believe me".
it's wearing trenchcoats at all times, no matter how inappropriate they may be.
took out her barrettes and her hair spilled out like rootbeer
It's the dancing/cig smoking.
man, what?
That's pretty much "You're a liar because you don't believe me"
Saying "I don't believe you are telling the truth" is entirely different from saying "You're not telling the truth".
the search function is lying.
Daypack
and
Traveling Backpack
What's what, and what's different, and what one do I actually have already?
No, that's "You're a liar because you're saying something that isn't true."

This is in the middle of the discussion, I didn't feel like finding the beginning of that argument.
What kind of trip is it?
Yep.
We are more hardcore than you
our shirts have witty sayings and our jeans are frayed and have holes in the knees.
[tiny]I'm just jealous because my freakish head will not aesthetically support a hat[/tiny]
No, it really isn't. He called you a liar. In other words, he doesn't believe you. You called him a liar for him not believing you.
Uhh I'm going to Guatemala for a month doing volunteer stuff
Don't ask why
I felt like it
No, I called him a liar because he said I'm a liar and I'm not. Thus what he said is not true. Thus it is a lie. Thus he is a liar.
Haha, ok. Whatever you say.
