After a couple months on hiatus from the SE++ anime thread I returned tonight in a fit of boredom and started posting random pics. When I posted something NSFW (not labeled, as I forgot) Dely Apple immediately edited it out of my post and reprimanded me. I was then informed by Dely and several others that NSFW material is now completely banned from H&R, even if it's linked and labeled.
I checked the rules thread, which says nothing of the sort. There is a ban on Ranger threads and a rule stating that NSFW material must be linked and labeled, but I am assured by everyone else in the anime thread that Duck and other mods have made it clear that NSFW images are entirely verboten.
I keep checking the ban announcement thread for stuff like

Thirteen year olds going to work? Slave labour! What will the unions say?
NSFW is a label that covers material innappropriate for adults to view at work, and incidentally covers material inappropriate for 13 year olds to be viewing at home. Nice attempt at humor, though. Really. The levity is such a BREAK from the constant dirge that is browsing these forums.

To be fair to aeolist, he's not complaining that he was reprimanded for not labelling it, he's asking about the apparently official "no NSFW at all" policy which doesn't seem to feature in the rules anywhere (and in fact seems to be ruled out by the rules).
Ecoterrorism is actually the single largest terrorist threat at the moment. They don't usually kill people, but they blow up or set on fire very expensive things.
The last thing I care about is what parents thing about what goes on here.
What is important is what Gabe and Tycho (and their lawyers) think. While we've had some debate about it on the On Topic side, we've never come anywhere near an outright prohibition on the material, indeed if anything we've been leaning in the other direction (which I, and my fellow non-American mods, have been thankful for).
I understand their may be some issues with the US legal system in terms of what we do, though - seeing as we are hosted in the US and the site we are attached to does business in the US. Someone should get that straight, and then we need to have a consistent forum-wide policy.
I remember way back in 11th grade my teacher showed one of the Romeo and Juliet movies while we were doing our Shakespeare section. Now during this movie a tittie comes up on the screen, but, you know, that happens every now and then in those kind of movies. Does that mean that the teacher had free reign to hand out Playboys and copies of Jugs and whatnot? No!
You see, sometimes a nsfw image will come up in the context of the conversation and be appropriate to link to/post. Does that mean you can link to any tawdry slut who puts on a thong? No.
EDIT - And if anyone takes this to mean that as long as the context of the conversation is "Post hot sluts in thongs" it's okay to post nsfw images then you're going to be banned for as long as it entertains me.
EDIT - And if anyone takes this to mean that as long as the context of the conversation is "Post hot sluts in thongs" it's okay to post nsfw images then you're going to be banned for as long as it entertains me.
How much entertainment can you get from someone not being around?

so, is he just exaggerating about the no NSFW stuff at all labeled or not?
because it sounds like he's exaggerating, but then again dely is a nazi mod, evil dely, evil.

I mean, it wasn't like it massacred Jews or had extreme right wing political views or was part of an unsuccessful attempt to conquer Europe whilst developing a race of superhumans, I just didn't enjoy it that much.
The whole reason the two were split is so that there does not have to be a forum-wide policy. We now have--and have always had--is a tolerance line which we cannot go below. If a forum wants to set restrictions more severe than that line, that can be done at their discretion. If they want to set their limits at that line, that's fine too. That's the whole reason there are two boards now.
If one side (like chat) feels the need to say, "That's it, you fucking hyenas, I am sick of you retards thinking you can post goatse all day long and get away with it. No more NSFW material, period, on pain of banning, until I say otherwise." they can do that without interfering with people posting various links over here. If one side (like on-topic) wants to say "There's never an appropriate time to discuss asses, therefore links to pics of asses will never be on topic, and will be treated with extreme prejudice." we can do so without affecting the chat-side's desire to discuss which current celebrity has the hottest ass.
Ecoterrorism is actually the single largest terrorist threat at the moment. They don't usually kill people, but they blow up or set on fire very expensive things.
So when you didn't label or link your NSFW post... and then admit that you knew you should have... then get fussy about it... my brain hurts.
Like they said, it was totally right for you to tell me off, and a fault on my part that I didn't link and label it. I'm not complaining about that.
I'm wondering about the comprehensive "no NSFW stuff at all" policy which is apparently A) being created and enforced entirely by the mods, and not in the official rules.
And I wasn't aware there was another forum this should have gone in. Like I said, I haven't been to the Chat side of the forums for a while, so I was unaware. My apologies. If anyone wants to move this, feel free.
Edit: And to clarify, I haven't actually heard this policy come from any of the H&R mods other than Dely, who confirmed that there is apprently supposed to be no NSFW material at all in H&R. The rest of the info I got came from the regulars in the Anime thread, who claimed Duck put a total ban on the stuff. So this is all really hearsay, but since Dely confirmed it I thought I'd get it out in the open and see what the policy actually is.

If you're asking about chat rules or chat policy, you should ask it in the chat administration forum.
Much like if you're asking about a chat-side ban, you should be talking to a chat-mod or an admin, not making a thread in the MD.
This has been true since about the first week the split happened.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
By the way, why can't META be a sticky thread inside H&R that is actually a sub-forum? Is that too hard to code, or do you have it on the New Year Agenda?

Two things:
1) There is far too much off-topic banter in this forum. I'm going to crack down on it because honestly, it's not necessary. If you want to comment in an appropriate manner, please do. I appreciate your input. If you want to make a joke, there are several forums in which it will be well-received and you should do it there.
2) There is no official NSFW policy as I am of two minds about the whole thing. One part of me says that the majority of sites on the internet have some kind of sexual aspect and it's nice to have on place that doesn't. Another part of me says denying our sexuality is false. So I tend to let the mods act at their discretion.
H&R, if given the opportunity would, I have no doubt, dissolve into OMG BOOBS if given the opportunity. If you want me to make an official policy you won't like it. I honestly don't see the need to have naked or semi-naked people on this board. That's just me. Other people seem to think this concept is draconian at worse and puritanical at best. So I will go with Duck's definition and leave it at that.

I also think that this needs to be quoted for clarity.
The Monkey Den mostly serves the purpose of a place to post bug-reports or feature-requests. It also will be used by me to post announcements or questions that effect the entire forum. A frequent complaint has been that people don't know when somebody was banned, so the mods and I will keep a log of who was banned here in this forum.
While we don't mind some off-topic posting in the threads in here from time-to-time, you will know it is getting excessive when we start deleting posts or locking topics.
This is not the appropriate place to voice concerns about being banned or jailed, or any other personal gripes about the moderation. For something like that, you should PM or email one of us.
If you want to make a topic of general concern regarding the community, the forums, the mods or the admins, feel free. Just try to keep it focused and if you think there is a problem but you don't have any kind of reasonable solution, well then you're probably better off keeping it to yourself.
Because this forum has our names on it, we will make an effort to read every topic and post in here. But we make no promise that we will do so. If you want to be sure we read something you wrote, then send one of us a PM.
