No, Albert Speer is so far better than that it's like comparing a permit set to a 4 year old's drawing of a house with 7 lines and an orange roof. Socialist Realism was also extraordinarily good at designs intended for mass gatherings and exalting a central speaker. This is not one of those designs. It gives me the feeling of nouveau riche televangelist.

Mincing the difference between senator vs. governor, what committees they served on or 2-6 years is completely irrelevant. They are all talking heads doing what they are told by the people behind them. They get to make decisions but not after running it by 30 of their advisers. All that matters is that they look good on camera, speak well, and make the American public feel like their lives matter.

When it comes to architecture, design, and symbolism? Authoritarian regimes realize the propaganda virtue of the built environment and make damn sure to capitalize on that effect as much as they can. As such their designers are especially good in that respect, which is what we're talking about here. Among them, Speer has no equal. The Cathedral of Light at Nuremberg rallies is just a breathtaking notion and genius on several levels. This? It's pathetic in every respect.
The seats are arranged in kindof a union jack. I wonder how we can read into that...

Annoying interview with Geraldine Ferraro on NPR this afternoon. At the end she was asked who she was voting for and in true bitter style said she would go into the voting booth and choose based on her principles.

I like how there are a whole bunch seats behind the obscenely large American flag projection screen. In fact, it looks like half the audience will be on the other side of the people who are talking.
Anyone thinking that Palin's children are going to be a huge benefit to her in the Veep debates? She just gave birth to a child with Downs Syndrome, and that's going to be a very volatile emotional trigger for the abortion part of the debates.
Also, I must say, I find news commentators referring to her as "that gal" or "the girl" quite a-Palin, and even worse is the occasional 'former beauty queen picked as running mate!'.

Delegates would be on the floor. Those candy cane poles appear to be for the delegate signs representing the various states. Randoms will probably only fill up the 1/3rd of seats along the major axis of the ellipse, with the important people getting sky boxes. Not sure if that red box projecting from the center is for Press, but that would be my first guess. Everything else isn't really for people to sit in, you just can't exactly hide half a stadium because it's empty.
Which is one other reason of why this is piss poor. They centered along the major axis in order to get the egalitarianism of a theatre in the round, except that it wastes more space in the setting than is really necessary, and the radial aisles reduce the democratic notion regardless. It's several mixed messages, the guy behind it doesn't have any apparent kind of cogent philosophy when it comes to his approach on these things.

Sarah Palin was a city council woman, a mayor and has served as a governor for 2 years.
Hillary served in the Senate for 6 years and was a first lady. She has the edge to Palin on formal education.
They both sound good on camera and say the right things.
I'm not suggesting that Palin is ready to be President and I don't much care since I'm not voting for that ticket but this notion that Hillary Clinton is the epitome of "experienced" is fucking laughable. She's an accomplished politician just like a lot of accomplished politicians but she's only served 6 years in office and has a law degree. Big fucking deal.
