Just tough it out, that's all I have to say. Read the stupid DF-wiki like the goddamn bible and you'll come out with a clumsy, yet personal outpost. Then watch as Goblin's and other foul beasts destroy everything you worked so hard to create.
Got a really good round of Nethack on NAO going... samurai two-weaponing Excalibur and his starting katana, AC 0, two magic lamps, ring of conflict, bag of holding, coaligned Minetown altar, and just about to tackle Mine's End
Tell me, SE, what horrible death shall my samurai suffer
Ledneh I might be shit talking. But I think you want a silver longsword in your offhand. Vampires suck and it fucking craps on them. Or at least I think it does.
I think in Vanilla nethack, Monks have a lot of trouble dealing with either werewolves or vampires. Because you don't want to wield a weapon, but you put on a Silver ring in Slash'em variant and punch the shit out of them. Good times.
It's been over a decade since the last time I played a serious MUD. Gemstone fucking III. First when it was free on AOL, then even when they switched over to pay, for like a year. Good times. And by god, Simutronics is still the greediest online corporation I've ever seen. I remember when they released a version of GS3 set in the "ice age" which was the in-game term for the original version of GS3. The monthly fee they were charging for it was seventy fucking dollars.
Wow so I booted up Incursion and immediately discovered I'd gone soft.
Gone are the days of ADOM where I would dutifully scour the land for treasure with my little @, happily creating new ones whenever the need arose (so, often.)
I opened the thing and remembered most roguelikes are ASCII, saw its lack of a tileset, and tried to play for a few minutes before closing the window wistfully.
In Elona, there are a variety of legendary weapons that randomly drop throughout the game world.
One of these, called "Ragnarok", is a very, very powerful two-handed sword... But as soon as you identify it, it shouts "RAGNAROK!!!" and spawns like a hundred hostile dragons on your screen.

No eye-related deaths for me this time 8-)
(edit) woo cloak of invis, and a luckstone earlier from mine's end
This one's a winner, I think

Stuff like that is what makes Roguelikes awesome.
