Downloading disturbing pornstuffs is much more bothersome when you were waiting 2-3 minutes to get a single picture from a local BBS on your 14.4 and you had no idea what you were gonna get, just that it was in the porn directory and then you open it up and BAM, it's a chick pooping into a guy's mouth.
Yeah, porn was a risk back then.
Although in some ways the horror is worse, with the possiblity of HD video and such.
Eew.
I actually heard a story on NPR yesterday about HD keeping makeup and camera crew people really busy trying to fix the imperfections it shows.
No mention of porn, but I'm sure the issues of normal movies are there, just magnified a whole lot.
I don't really like HD porn. Standard resolution is fine, I don't need to see every little detail of a woman's vagina or every wrinkle in a dude's ballsack.
If could have my absolute dream job, I'd be a voice actor for cartoons.
It's not really a possibility at this point, however.
If my TC mod project ever takes off, I might need a voice actor.
It probably won't take off though. The design document has been WIP for quite a while, and I've got like 25% of it ready.
Twhatnow?
But yeah, if you or anyone else you know is looking for someone to try out doing voice acting, I'd be happy to give it a go.
I have a decent, strong voice due to years in radio/podcasting, with good enunciation. And I'm capable of doing quite a few different voices. The "acting" part is what I have pretty much no experience with.
Total conversion mod. Probably planned for ut3.
You'd just need to say things like "Go go go", "ARRRRRRRGGH" "Grenade in" "I need Ammo" and so on.
I mean, to be honest the quality doesn't need to be that great as long as it's strong. There's probably going to be some radio noise over it.
Okie dokie, keep me posted.
Oh hey, I'd love to do this too, if you're looking for more people. I have a lot of acting experience, though not a lot of it is 'voice' acting.
Combined with the article I saw a few days ago about beer not being recession-proof, my hopes of carving out a living on booze and smut are really diminished.

My life goal is to by "Dr. <name>." Also to build a robotic army and take over the world.
Two birds with one stone: Going for my Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, focusing on dynamic systems control (robots!) next Fall. In with funding at Cornell and UIUC, waiting to hear from Stanford. Odds are I'll wind up in Ithaca, learning how to build my minions. Also how to be Dr. <name>.
Robotics in an ME curriculum? That is pretty odd unless you're talking about old-school hydraulic models.

Alright.
I'm thinking about starting to make the first build tomorrow. If I can get the first weapon to work properly I'll start trying to get more people to work on it.

I want to open a restaurant with my buddies so bad.
We are starting to squirrel away cash for it.
I've thought long and hard about it and the best advice I can give you is to take advantage of whatever local farms and markets are available. The more you pump the local economy and the more you use 'natural' marketing, the better off you are. Basically, the outdoor patio is your first piece of viral marketing and the chalkboard you have out front with ever-changing daily specials is a key portion of it.
Also, if you have rotating events going on throughout the week (live bands, open mic night) you're going to attract a variety of clientele and that's just good business sense.
God damn right, son. All of our shit is going to be made local.
The focus of our restaurant?
"Meat"
The current name we are going with is "MAB's House of Meat", although that is likely to change over the 3-5 years it's going to take us to come up with the necessary capital to get it off the ground.

Most porn actresses don't like being shot in HD because it shows their stretch marks, and bruises, rashes, etc.
Man, I've heard that restaurants are one of the most difficult small businesses to have. So much more shit you gotta deal with than just an average retail store.
If you're a moron, sure. The easiest way to ruin a small business is to lose sight of your goal, which should be to grow it into something that attracts solid people to run the business for you.
This is 100% my goal. I want to be the guy who collects a check every week. You get a guy who's good and trustworthy, give him what he needs to be successful and pay him what he deserves, I figure you can be that guy.

Robotics is one of those gray areas of technology where the EEs, MEs, and CS guys all have claims.
Some schools do their robotics in one department, other schools do it in another.
Typically you find robotics in ME and CS departments, fairly rarely in EE departments. In an ME department you worry more about the machinery, in a CS department you worry about the brain.
At the moment, I work in industry designing motor control and simulation. I spend most of my day either programming embedded hardware in C or simulating how my control algorithms will interact with the motor / larger system in Simulink / Matlab. All this with a BSME.
This blurring of disciplines has been coming for quite some time now and it is sorely needed. You can't specify control parameters (traditional ME role) without an understanding of what the software and hardware does with them. You can't design the harware (EE role) without knowledge of some of the nuances in the software. And of course you can't effectively write embedded motor control code without intimate knowledge of the hardware or motor control theory.
I'm not trying to sell the idea of engineers being jacks-of-all-trades, but just that in my professional experience strictly compartmentalizing the disciplines leads to some really shitty design decisions.
This is 100% my goal. I want to be the guy who collects a check every week. You get a guy who's good and trustworthy, give him what he needs to be successful and pay him what he deserves, I figure you can be that guy.
I'm honest, I'll give you that. I also don't dip my pen in company ink; it is one of the invariable truths of the service industry that I've not had to get beaten into my head.

Banging somebody you work with is BEGGING for trouble/to get fired.
Most companies actually don't care as long as it doesn't provide a clear conflict of interest, it's just bad mojo. It makes fights that much worse because of the forced interaction and even worse if you're in the same circle of work friends.
that's the sort of reasoning I go through every so often when I try to figure out what to go to grad school for
I've got the BSEE and I just don't see a whole lot of interesting things in a masters EE
but a masters in some specialized CS or ME would be shit hot
Apply for it. Your graduate education doesn't have to be a direct continuation of your undergrad, and an EE grounding would make an ME or CS masters more useful if you intend to go into a field that's one of these gray areas than just a straight ME or CS masters.
I mean, realistically, the differences between two ME degrees, say materials science and control theory, are larger than the difference between an ME degree in control theory and an EE degree related to controls.
I want to organize and manage events. Thet don't have to be big events even. Although, for ages, since I was young and just saw Stargate in the cinema, I wanted to be an Egyptologist. I still kinda want to be one.
Banging somebody you work with is BEGGING for trouble/to get fired.
Like a guy I worked for about three years ago. Fifteen years ago he started working as a server. Three years later, he's the GM at a Houston's in Dallas. Five years later, he gets busted for nailing an underage hostess and gets fired. Goes to work at another four star in Dallas for a few years, gets caught again for nailing underage hostesses. Three and a half years ago, I start working for him, quit on him when he pushed me too far, and two months after that, he gets fired AGAIN for nailing underage hostesses.
During this entire time, he has a wife and two kids, loses his wife, gains a girlfriend and loses said girlfriend and custody of his kids.
All because he can't keep his pants zipped around 16 and 17 year old hostesses.
Most companies actually don't care as long as it doesn't provide a clear conflict of interest, it's just bad mojo. It makes fights that much worse because of the forced interaction and even worse if you're in the same circle of work friends.
If it spills over into the work-place and affects your performance or the ability of others to work, you better belive they will fire your ass.

That is sadly like some kind of retard game where there is a big sign that says "do not flip this switch you will get electrocuted" and he just keeps on flipping the damn switch.

Obviously managing restaurants causes inappropriate desires for underage girls.
