So, I'm taking the time to introduce my girl to the wonder that is Firefly.
She saw Serenity first, unfortunate, but it happened so whatever. She's loving it so far. We watched Jaynestown and Ariel last night.
Much fun was had.
I also saw Serenity first. It wasn't that much of a problem.
I know people who saw the movie first as well. And they still love the show.
But I suppose you can never really get an accurate "which is better?", the movie then show, or show then movie. But it was expected and sort of made with the idea that you would have seen the show before they started killing people in the movie.

Oh yeah, I loved the show a hell of a lot more than I loved the movie. Still, the movie was pretty great. I wouldn't mind rewatching it.
Actually, I wouldn't mind smoking a bowl then putting on my Firefly DVDs. Hmmm.
Was it just the killings that made the movie not as good? Like, if it had ended cheerily or something?
Maybe it's that the Operative came so soon after Jubal Early.
DrZiplock - How does someone see the movie before the show though? From what I understand, the movie didn't do great with non-Firefly fans. So how did your girlfriend see Serenity before Firefly? Did you let this happen?!
Everyone can have their own opinion. It's just that I always hear people talk down about the movie, when I thought it was pretty damn good. Now, I sort of spoiled myself on the movie when it came out, cause I didn't get into Firefly until years later, so maybe that jaded me.
Sure, people died, and they sort of messed with River's escape story, but I liked it. It still pains me to watch it, though. I'd gladly pop in an episode than the film.

Well, for me it was my girlfriend at the time getting me to go see it with her. I didn't know anything about it but I really enjoyed the movie and later we watched most of the series on DVD.
Speaking of Nathan being big, I didn't realize that he was working out so much during Firefly. I mean, he's gotten a bit chunky over the past few years. Not a fatty, but he's certainly not as fit as Mal seemed to be. I guess when you're butt naked enough times, you want it to look good.
I assume he was working out cause he was thin in Firefly, and fat now. I just didn't see Mal as a role where he'd need to be super fit.
edit: I assume big head meant giant ego. That seems to be Nate's schtick. See Captain Hammer, basically.

Oh no no.
I had nothing to do with this. She went home for a weekend and apparently her father had just bought the DVD and they all sat down to watch it.

I am always going to be angry at you Whedon. For this and other things!
Just not nearly as good as the show it was based off of. Story wise, it ain't no thing.

I just enjoyed the series a bit more.
If can fight you about it, if you want.

That must be alarming.
