So again, we have a good continuation of the Great Fables crossover in the Literals #1, that has Buckingham art, which is a treat.
Kevin Thorn has a writers block, so he summons the genres to help him out with his story (which is to tear down this universe and change it to make it better):

tl1a.jpg

Bigby, Snow, Revise, Babe and Gary head to Thorn's old house, which is rigged to blow up. Thorn realizes Bigby is coming after him, so he literally (heh) rewrites him into......

tl1b.jpg

A nice tip of the hat to Detective Chimp.

Also, GL #40 was decent. A lot of Johns weaknesses as a writer appear though. We do get confirmation of what happens to become an Orange Lantern

gl40a.jpg

gl40b.jpg

gl40c.jpg

So it seems when they die, they are still themselves just astral form in the orange battery, like Wendell is in Nova.
This is a habit of Johns, killing minor characters to make the villain seem h4rdcor3.

And the story is 3 pages short to have a back up by Johns and Albuquerque telling a story about an Orange Lantern (the one who ate the GL ring).

Nova was good as well.
The Nova Corps get beat by Gladiator's Imperial Guard, then are slaughtered by the female Gladiator's team.
RIchard gets into Ego's brain, and ta da, Ego is actually in control of the Worldmind. Well duh. Still good solid storytelling from DnA.

And because I'm a nice guy, here are some funny scenes with Starman from JSA #26, which is just a nice fluff issue:

jsa26a.jpg

jsa26b.jpg

jsa26c.jpg

Moment of the Weak: Uncanny #509. Land drew Dr. Rao to be 25, and he can't even trace the red dot on her head correctly. Also, the Alpha Flight guy is being traced straight off his UFF Reed Richards. Also, this forced tension between Scott and Emma = weaksauce.
The Red Queen doesn't have a physical body, and is looking to transplant herself into Jean. Psylocke was just a test to see if it could work. Also, Land got to draw Emma in bondage, that probably made his day drawing that one.

    In response to Uncanny,
While it very well could go that way, I'm not so sure it's crystal clear she was talking about Jean. She didn't say it in so many words, at least.

Heh, I made a response to that in the X-Thread. What the deuce is up with Kavita Rao being 25. My MotW was in Dark Avengers where Ares catches Noh-Varr checking Moonstone out.

Just went and picked up my books, but since I have to work I won't be able to get to them until later tonight, but my current moment of the week is the fact that Invincible Ultimate Collection Vol 4 has actually shown up in stores. I'm sure once I actually get a chance to read stuff things will change(The Literals will probably take the prize, but I'll have to see).

Starman went back in time to retrieve Kon-El's corpse and he put it in the same chamber that Kal-El was put in when he was killed by Doomsday. The process took one thousand years though because of his human DNA.

Huh, that's not bad. Still, between that and bringing Bart back, the book seems like it's a bit congested with miracles.

That actually does work. A bit on the nose about one thousand years, but its better than magic.

Not only that and Bart back, but the miracle machine in Final Crisis, the Legion should just be called D.E.U.S.E.X. or something (hee hee deu sex)

Also, I was able to find the page with the Emma stuff:

Ironically, my comic shop owner guy loves Land. Absolutely adores him, thinks his art is so detailed and good. I was like, "Really? But his faces can be so awkward. And I'm pretty sure he's constantly accused of tracing." and he was like "The faces can be awkward because he draws everyone like super models! And I've never heard him accused of tracing." I just dropped the conversation, because I wasn't going to argue.

Then he was like, "I assume he's like Alex Ross and uses live stand-ins."

I mean, not knocking him for his opinion, but Land is no Alex Ross.

That reminds me, Apparently the Cabal One-Shot isn't that good. I picked it up, and the employee at my LCS who kind of knows what stories I like said it wasn't that great. Nothing important in it apparently, just a bunch of 5-6 pages stories.

Also worth note is that the Indigo Lantern t-shirts aren't really indigo in color, but more a faded blue. A shop employee was wearing one today.

Philip Tan's art in GL#40 was quite good. The art in the back-up "Tales of" story was not so good.

I saw a super purple-y one at mine, I think it was supposed to be indigo. It was really purple though. And I'm glad I didn't pick up the Cabal One-Shot, though I was tempted.

The colorist was way off in the back up, Albuquerque has good art. His Blue Beetle and Superman/Batman colorist gave his work a less Scott Kolins vibe.

Yeah, I was disappointed. The only good story was the first one about Doom.

Emma's was the worst, just a look back at key points in her life. A waste of Acuna's art.

Everyone was throwing around theories in the Marvel Cosmos thread, maybe you remember it from there.

Just finished Runaways #9. Moore wrapped up his run, and while it wasn't great, it advanced the Staff of One plot and had just a nice little ending where Moore recognizes how Molly and Klara are some of the better new characters Marvel has created.

No. I remember seeing that particular page.

That site has scans from the new issue of Ms. Marvel, and ... I don't like slagging comics. Especially ones I don't read. But goddamn it. That's the best Reed could do? That was worth "killing" Danvers? What a fucking waste.

    It was fantastic.

I like how Geoff Johns has made it his business to fix unpopular, editorially mandated mistakes. He's very Dan Slott-ish in that aspect. If I recall correctly, he also took it upon himself to undo the chatty version of Cassandra Cain.

Let's hope Youknowwho's got his personally back too.
