Sweetie, what's the difference between Hebrew and Yiddish?
The alphabet means nothing- plenty of entirely dissimilar languages employ the same alphabet. Most Jews are somewhat comfortable with Yiddish if only because of its symbiosis with classical Hebrew, which the majority of Jews are exposed to upon their study of the Torah as children. Modern Hebrew- spoken in Israel- is a whole separate monster, though. They're in different language families. I am completely fluent in Hebrew but barely conversational in Yiddish.

Alright my jaw hurts, I think I'm gonna pack it in for the night now. I had fun tonight, [chat]! Friend told me that her friend she is road-tripping to pick up wants to be alone with her, though, so I don't have that fun trip to get roped into tomorrow. Really, that means I'm doing nothing except the usual job hunt (which was put off for a day, because today was Cavity Day). Thursday means live DJ at the Q though, so I will probably go unf unf unf later in the evening. Yay!
OK goodbye and goodnight lovers and don't forget the warblers
I had a delightful evening of my bar manipulating my friends into acting certain ways towards one another. It was like an episode of House with them being my minions and my being Hugh Laurie. It was fucking fantastic.

You know why Arabic is such a bitch language?
It doesn't have the p sound
what kind of self-respecting language doesn't have the p sound
that is why when they try to say pepsi it's bebsi, and pepper is bebber
Still, I'm amazed at how racist some Iranians can be. Hakks is cool, but dayum some of those people can be techy.
This just in: Minority group racist towards other minority groups. MORE AT 11!
Seriously though don't be surprised. Racism is almost required to be a real Iranian. Which is why I have to struggle to stay silent when gossipers at local iranian parties think they are imparting definitive intel on another girl's lack of moral center with the double whammy, "She started dating (ding!) this black guy (ding!)"
I need to get back to my paper

Suck my Aryan dick, Arabic-speaking world!
Philipino's the same. P comes out as F or B.
Also, everyone is "auntie".
That's typical of most island nations, though. In Hawaii every adult is Auntie or Uncle. You hardly ever hear Mr or Miss or Mrs outside of a classroom, in which case every teacher is Mr or Miss, regardless of marital status and sans last name.

Everything except the alphabet. I suppose the direction of the eye is the same, also. They're entirely different families- Yiddish is High Germanic, and it borrows from a plethora of languages, mostly Eastern European. Hebrew is entirely Semitic. The stressing on polysyllabic words is different. Cognates do not bear translation well at all. A lot of Hebrew letters are pretty much only used in the case of cognates and are just about neglected by Yiddish as a functional means of communication. In Yiddish many of the characters have been modified to serve as vowels. Vowels are implied in Hebrew, or expressed only peripherally.

James- I guess that might be a little more accurate, but I don't speak French or Latin so eh.

NOOOOOOOOOOO, I DON'T WANT IT TO CONTINUE. I HAVE ENOUGH REAL RELATIVES WHO COULD CALL ME THAT IF I LIVED BY THEM.
Chances are you won't encounter it. It's usually used by children to people they consider adults. Do you plan on encountering many local children while you're there?
Hakks - I'm surprised by any racism. It just seems so trivial.
Also, strap-ons FTW.
So me and my redhead BFF tried to convince her fiance (who is another good friend of mine) that there is this strapon named Mr. Wiggles involved in our lives to some degree in order to freak him out.

I enacted a universal moratorium on them about 6 years ago. The problem is that I have insufficient stormtroopers to uphold it.
