aston martin went that route because they didnt have to re-engineer that car from the ground up, they stole it from toyota, which right now doesnt seem like the best course of action
this is probably meant to be a high margin, higher numbers car to give them some capital for the sports car business. But they shouldnt have called it an Aston Martin, marques like that definitely have a reputation and they're watering it down.

I liked that car until I saw past the front tire.

They could have gotten something else, anything else, anything that isn't that bodyshape
it's a joke
I know they need some capitol, but that thing is just an atrocity. It is below the lowest common denominator
A lancer, or anything with an actual proper bodyshape would have been better, it would have been acceptable
Why did it have to be a stereotypical "city car" though?
It does not suit aston at all, if they wanted a successful efficient vehicle there are other options that are far, far better
Because a city car fit their customers' needs, fit the market, and using a Toyota platform allows them to have very low investment on the entire shebang.
Regardless of how you think it affects their image or whatever, it is a sound business move.

Well if they pay toyota enough money for each platform, then toyota makes money, and if they sell enough, then aston makes money off it as well
granted toyota could see they could cut aston out of the deal and take all of the cash, but occaisionally the name itself insures enough sales that the deal keeps going.
Still, Aston should have chosen something with some self respect

They have a multi-hundred grand supercar
They have the tourer
But don't think that those are the only options available, even in the realm, of sportscars
Modern car production leads people into believing that there are no alternatives. This goes past Aston
Someone can make them, and I don't know why they don't. A 2 door sports coupe (not talking 370z level here) wouldn't be much different from a standard hatch. Cut the lines a little different and it makes a world of visual difference, place in a 2.2L 4cyl instead of a 1.6 and for gods sake send it to the rear wheels, and you have a legend.
but ooooh nooooo insurance and brand image and oh dear we will look as if we encourage suicide driving.
I know aston wanted something fairly sensible, I know they wanted fuel efficient, but it doesn't mean they had to crawl as far up anti-car sensationalism's arse as far as they could go

I don't know if anyone in this thread is anywhere near central Indiana, but the Lafayette Corvette Club is holding a "Timed Test and Tune" autocross event at Grissom Air Force Base in Peru, IN (Technically Bunker Hill, IN). It's $25 to race, all proceeds going towards a veterans fund, and it's open class (no pick-ups or SUVs, though). Just show up and race against the clock.
There was also a GT-R (R35? the newest one). Pretty fast but nowhere near TTOD (a stripped out Subaru STI with a VERY good driver was)
Also a couple of very nice Porsche GT2s.
V8/V12 vantage is probably one of my top 5 favorite exotic cars. I used to work a block away from an aston dealer, and every time one left the lot for a test drive I could hear it.

He has unlimited access to any Aston Martin he wants, plus he gets to drive on their test track.
Aren't they working on this?
sweet fuck i just came
Yeah I know it's just a concept.. a crazy lunatic psycho weird ass concept..
Makes me think of a Ariel Atom of the future
Dear satan I wish for this or maybe some of this....oh and I'm a medium or a large.

but this is terrible
"City cars" are for unwashed Frenchmen

that does not immediately mean "farce"
There are other options
Been helping a more well off mate try and find a car for months now, it's seriously so fucking hard to choose.
I really need to get out of my boring-as-hell '98 altima though. It's been chipping away at my driving soul for years. I need something fun again..
I really hope the FT-86 rebirths sports cars

They've got the sports car
They've got the saloon car...
...I guess people would rather they made a car/truck

Not anymore. Ford sold off most of it in 2007 and only holds about an 8% stake now. Ford also sold off Jaguar and Land Rover in 2008.

I'm going to go ahead and establish that if you don't like this in every single way, you are wrong.

I always wanted a really fancy station wagon
There was also a GT-R (R35? the newest one). Pretty fast but nowhere near TTOD (a stripped out Subaru STI with a VERY good driver was)
Also a couple of very nice Porsche GT2s.
But today I finally got to drive the '01 BMW 328i which will be my transportation from now on and that is one hell of a fun car
Chills man, spine-tingling chills.
Powerrrrr!
