Things are getting ridiculous now. We are waiting for them to give Simon a shot before he gets to stay up in the room with us, but they're taking their sweet time about it. The orders were put in 9 hours ago and we've just been sitting on our thumbs waiting. I want my baby, dammit!

How long are they keeping everyone in the hospital?

When they did that to our younger son I wanted to deck the nurse. That clown stabbed him twice and then squeezed his foot so hard that it looked like she was trying to make wine out of our baby. -_-

And he's all like, "Wait, what? I thought the painful was done AAARARGH! CRY!"

My little guy got so into it, I had to laugh. Especially because we picked him up, hugged him, told him he was a tough guy, and he was, all, "Oh - right, I *am* a tough guy," and went back to being a happy newborn.

Still works when he gets his shots at each appointment.

EDIT: But, seriously, there's a little guy at our church who has permanent brain damage and other issues because of a pretty basic issue that is now on Virginia's screening list thanks to him; he has an allergy to something that, if caught early, can be treated by just not giving him any of the stuff for, like, 6 months, and it clears up on its own. But if he gets any (which, because they didn't screen for it, he did), horrible life-long problems. So, thank goodness for that test.

so what's the prognosis like now?

baby was born super awesome healthy, right? and the type of cancer is the lottery-winning sort (shitty lottery nonetheless), right?

did anything cancer-related change over pregnancy? or is it as if she just got diagnosed today with it and that means yay most likely good outcome?

That's either creepy or it's one of those restaurants where they they pre-pick the fortune cookies.

Nothing creepy about it at all. It's just an excellent example of predicting something so vague, that it can apply to a vast number of circumstances, almost ensuring it will be correct for most people.

At first blush, I read that as, "My brother named his twin daughters Zoe and Firefly." Which, of course, made me think of Albuquerque.

A little update, after a long while:

Simon is doing very well. He's a very well-behaved baby and is very chill and laid-back most of the time. Our biggest problems are when we switch back and forth from formula to breast milk and vice versa. Oddly enough, we just got a Rigaku X-ray refractometer for work and I've been able to run an elemental analysis on her breast milk to detect platinum levels, which is what the hospitals say will be an indication of potentially harmful milk content. In the meantime, she's pumping so that's she's able to feed him herself when it's possible because she's really into the bonding and other benefits you get from breastfeeding. I'm doing my best to be a supportive father and wake up to feed him formula when he gets hungry at night so she doesn't have to, but I'm admittedly having some crazy bad sleep problems (both too much and too little). So I haven't been as awesome a guy as I need to be, unfortunately.

We are heading down to Houston today at around 2:30 PM to finish up Christina's 3rd round of chemo. We opted to drive instead of fly since tickets are like $500/person now. So it's going to be about 12 hours on the road the next two days. If anyone in Houston wants to say hi, we'd be glad to. She only has two more chemo treatments after this, and after that she needs about a month of radiation. If her scans turn up negative after all that, then we can finally say she is recovering.

A lot of the money that you guys donated went to paying bills that I had come up while I was down in Houston waiting for Simon and Christina to be ready to come back home. It was a huge blessing to be able to not worry about the financial implications that go along with not working for a couple weeks and to focus exclusively on being there for my family. So thank you all once again!
