I kept it, to have the option of changing it/using it later.
Cop out? No go fuck yourself. I cannot stress how dire the situation is. A massive fleet of lovecraftian space robots is on its way to kill everyone. I'm keeping my options open.
I'd also like to modify the genophage so it doesn't produce lots of dead babies. Just have it so the Krogan egg doesn't get fertilized or something I dunno.

It's a cop-out. The option Yes vs No is hugely different from Maybe vs No.
And Mordin can modify the genophage himself.

Isn't Mordin close to the end of his life and wouldn't have the time to do a proper job of it?

also, isn't there some demo that comes out today, where playing it to the end nets you free shit in ME3?
if it all goes to hell and the krogan empire rises from the ashes I'll just land on planet yahgstar, punch the yahg prime minister in the face to assert dominance and give them all sorts of advanced vehicles and weaponry to use and throw them at the krogan

I'm a realist when it come to the Krogan. The last time they were allowed to control their own population growth, they decided to expand their empire by force and kill anyone who stood in their way. It took the deployment of a bio-WMD to stop them.
A Reaper devastated galaxy will not be able to resist a non-genophage'd Krogan expansion by force. Will they act the same now? I don't know.
Now this is a MASSIVE MISSION SPOILER ABOUT ME3 SO DO NOT CLICK UNLESS YOU WANT A MAJOR PLOT POINT RUINED
I've seen a preview on the Bioware forums where you have to decide to spread a genophage cure or a fake one (at the recommendation of the Salarian STG). I'm hoping there is a 3rd option. Where I get to spread the real cure BUT get the Salarians to develop a new genophage behind the scenes. Keep it in a lab somewhere just in case we need it it again

The genophage was right
if you want a plague of 12 foot tall space toads that shoot guns then you're crazy
it would be super nice if there was a way around the still born thing, but the level of population growth is exactly the same as it was before they got drafted to stomp on bugs
Maybe I missed it, but what happens to Miranda and Jacob post Arrival and the start of ME3? Do they go back to TIM, or stick with Shepard and get thrown in space jail since they're Cerberus affiliated (I guess for that matter, what happens to the SR2's Cerberus crew)? If you can't say that's cool, I'm just curious.

How hard can it be with the technology at hand to just modify the Krogan so they don't have massive broods of 2000 year+ lifespan offspring? Why the whole massive miscarriage incidence scene.

Because Mass Effect must be a universe with no clear right or wrong. The genophage was needed to protect the rest of the galaxy from the Krogan but it had to also be horrible to make the decision a debate for players. There ain't much worse then lots of dead babies.
I've never really considered the mountains of floppy smelly lizard babies. That ain't subtle.

I mean a big part of the genophage is that most pregnancies don't take. It's just that a bunch of pregnancies also end in miscarriage.
Sometimes babies are mentioned in like the same breathe as "Raaargh making my clan stronger to fight other clans." so my Shep is usually just like lo lok.
I want to do with you
What spring does with the cherry trees.
I remember the holodeck being pretty gritty. I've never watched a lot, but from what I've seen they must have to sweep the remains out of that thing twice a week.
Or maybe they're real energy efficient and the heat produced from the human compost heap under the floor powers the thing.
One of the reasons I love this forum is that you are having exactly the argument we want you to have.
For my money -- and this is JUST ME PERSONALLY, no ME3 spoilers:
If I have Wrex alive, I think the krogan can come around and not repeat the mistakes of last time, so I save the cure data. They might come out aggressive like the turians, but hopefully with Wrex at the helm, they'll get some colony worlds back, fill them up, and then begin breeding responsibly instead of just popping out thousands at a time. Maybe I'm wrong -- maybe I'm stupidly idealistic -- but Wrex saw reason on Virmire, and I believe in him.
If Wrex is dead, and it's Big Ol' Wreav at the helm, well, you'd better believe I'm personally lighting Mordin's lab notes on fire and making sure the ashes are scattered.
That's my posistion entirely. Wrex is my boy, and I trust that dude to kick exactly as much ass as needs to be kicked to get the Krogan on a sustainable path. But if Wrex isn't around, you lunatics just enjoy your hubris-planet and your baby piles.

Whoever gets the best ending in ME3 is the best Shepard.
The thing is, even in the best ending I reckon the galaxy is still going to be a proper mess. So I wonder what the 2nd worst ending is (worst being the Reapers kill everyone).
Thing I love about this series: I explain the background of the The Krogan Problem to my wife, and ask her what she would do. She chooses to keep the genophage data, with the hope that eventually the Krogan will stop being cockasses and fighting all the time and maybe prove that they can be valuable members of galactic society, and once they prove that (maybe after the Reaper War) we can give them the cure.
OR
She'd give it to them immediately, because she knows there's a war coming and having allies on her side led by someone loyal to herself could be extremely invaluable. She couldn't really make up her mind. She knew she wanted to keep that data, though.

Basically my thinking, yeah. Call it a cop-out if you want, but I ain't unilaterally making a decision this big. I'm gonna talk to Wrex about it at the very least.
They've already had to get more disciplined about breeding, just to survive. I'm at least willing to give Wrex the chance to convince me they can maintain that discipline the in other direction.

Well its got to be gritty somehow or we're in Star Trek territory.

the PC version came in a full sized plastic box right? that game was after the shitty cardboards ones, wasn't it?
