there was no enemy variety whatsoever

all the splicers are supposed to be crazy due to overuse of plasmids but only like that one guy has plasmid powers

the last half got so fucking boring and repetitive

the first three hours or so are one of the best video game experiences ever though

I dunno. If I'm not a wrecking ball of bullets and fire by the end of the game I feel cheated.

Or if not, at least give me the option to start a second game with all the powers I upgraded during my first run through. The reward for beating a game should being able to steamroll through it a second time to vent the frustrations built up from the previous playthrough.

ok, the "escort" mission in CoD4 where you just sling that pilot over your shoulders was pretty boss, though. Probably the most emotional part of the game for me. (not that that's saying much)

Speaking of something in the sea, I just found out that I am related to the first black navy admiral ever.

And he was the first to serve on and later command a fighting ship.

    Awesome.

EDIT: And he's having a missile destroyer named after him.

It's kind of a trade off, spend some more time on making some amazing scenery and developing an awesome story, and you lose time to create more enemies.

I agree with you, my thinking being that people should focus more on the story and the scenery, the game isn't just meant to be some basic fps.

The Citizen Kane of Games in terms of everything save gameplay with gameplay that involved cutting deep grooves in your penis would not be a good game though.

My uncle served in the army and got a shitload of ribbons and medals, he only left because they made him retire.

And my dad was in the army for a little while.

I've always considered it, but I dunno about just yet.

Well I felt that each bad guy was very well fleshed out, and the way they were presented to the player was always interesting. I really liked that on a basic level you were fighting human beings who were just crazy, they barely even knew you were there, they werent so much agressive as so batshit insane they were a threat.

Between men and women who rip themselves apart in a spray of blood in order to teleport, people who've shoved hooks onto their hands and crawl on the cieling, 3 different types of juggernaughts, turrets and flying steam-punk machine guns, there was more than enough.

I loved the ecosystem of it all, you could force them to fight each other, each had different alliances and motives, they werent just colour coded badguys who had different powers. They were all people.

There are so many interesting ways they are presented, hearing them having domestics or rant maniacly to themselves, protect little child monsters, its brilliant and more importantly believable within the world. Seeing football team splicers run at you, nurses, patients, dock workers, art patrons, men and women, its fucking brilliant and I do not understand people who see all this and just go "oh splicers are one type of enemy im bored".

Bioshock had a handful of sploicers and Big Daddies.

    CoD4 had, erm... Russians.

    You're complaining about variety?

it looks like letting the little sisters harvest for you is like an amped up version of the encounters in the escort mission from the first game (and yes, that part sucked)

though if the sisters are still able to process adam that means they should still be invincible, which means that the only thing that will happen if you let them get attacked is that the process takes longer

what i am getting at is if they can die while harvesting then fuck this game

    @ Prohass and Monroe:
Bah, my opinion is flawed, I realize this now.

The characters were very well done for sure and had a lot of different components to them, but I still can't shake the feeling that even on normal difficulty, they didn't pose much of a threat/weren't that important to worry about.

I might not remember some other time when I might have been ripped apart... but I do remember that most of the splicers were felled by the electroshock wrench combo, which gets repetitive after awhile.

The thing is although the enemies could be easily killed by certain exploitable combinations, which is a fault of the design, I never found the need to use that exploit repeatedly, as there were so many other interesting and entertaining ways to kill things. Hacking turrets, setting up traps and crossbolt defenses, blasting away, plasmiddin', there was enough variety there that I simple found what was the most fun and did that.

And really the way they screamed and sizzled, the thud of the wrench, I still found each death and kill so violent and unnerving that I was hooked and utterly immersed. I never thought "oh hey these guys are easy im bored". I simply felt like I was gunning down rabid humans, and I was winning because I wasnt quite as batshit insane as them and I actually used tactics.

the problem with having weapon variety in a setting like bioshock is why the fuck would there be that much weapon variety?

no long range rifles because no long range fields for hunting. no heavy weapons because... no. wait. i shouldn't have to further this argument. i know they'd have weapons despite being in a paradise because of what kind of people they are. but they shouldn't because they are underwater in god damned glass tunnels and shit.

and with guns, they'd be pretty much close-medium range like shotguns, pistols, and OMGOSH! tommyguns

Huh? Well there was a large scale protracted civil war. Those without access to plasmids would've wanted heavy weapons.

I dont quite get your second post, are you saying there wasnt enough variety?

    looks like Bioshock

Which unfortunately is not a good thing.

I always felt that Bioshock was suffering through awful gameplay for some awesome story.

Like MGS. But story worth paying attention to that was actually not funny outside of Kojima's twisted mind.

no you are retarded bioshock is a really well made game with really awesome gameplay

Are you joking or was Bioshock just the first game you ever played.

Bioshock was great as a scripted narrative.

But goddamn as a shooter give me Crysis, give me Gears of War, give me goddamn anything over that broken goddamn gameplay.

Again, I loved Bioshock. Incredible atmosphere, incredible story, close to incredible writing(Give me Avellone or give me death), but really, the gameplay was DOOM at best.

The game wasn't billed as a "shooter" to beat Crysis or Gears of War.
Your argument is flawed, possibly due to you being dumb.

I kinda didn't get too attached to any of the characters in bioshock one that didn't die, so I'm not really looking forward to this one's story

However, new plasmids and mindfucks sound fantastic.

There wasn't a large scale civil war. because it is a small city that is underwater and pretty much unknown by the rest of the world.

and i'm defending the enemy variety. it shouldn't be that large because it should just be disgruntled citizens
