I got this yesterday as well...I have had the leak for a bit and have listened to it like a motherfucker..But actually having the cd, and looking for all of the clues to the ARG is so much better...
Speaking of the ARG..If anyone besides me has been following since the beginning...Have any of you gone to the http://www.freerebelart.net/ and put in your phone number?? Its fucking a trip...
Oh holy shit, that was fucking awesome. Probably the best thing they set up for people to interact with yet.
My phone rang in the other room though and I ran over in anticipation almost missing the call. When the monitor changed after saying the password and she started laying all that heavy shit on you it was actually a bit frightening. My computer . . . its tagged.
Album is now acquired. Picked it up at Best Buy and it said the price was $14.99 but it rang up for only $11.99 so that was cool. The United States Bureau of Morality warning on the back of the package is great.
i'm waiting for someone to draw a penis on the heat sensitive disc and post it
that thing is the coolest ever. I can see why trent was pissed off that those random label execs or whoever spilled the beans on it. I would have no idea what the fuck was going on when I put it in the comp drive and it came out like that.
"Syncopation is when a stressing of a normally unstressed beat in a bar or failure to sound a tone on an accented beat occurs. Off-beat syncopation: Playing a note ever-so-slightly before or after a beat is another form of syncopation because this produces an unexpected accent."

This is one of the first anticipated albums that I've managed not to acquire before release and man, am I happy that I waited. Listening to this on my 45-minute drive home from work was great.
And that Bureau of Morality phone message creeped me right out.
EDIT: The Free Rebel Art message was fucking wild too. God Bless America.
I love a good concept album. It would be great if Trent released this one in 5.1 like he did The Downward Spiral.
And for all you Canucks who have an A&B Sound nearby and lack one of the NIN releases, go check them out. Most of their albums were on sale for $9.99 today. I would have picked a couple up (lost mine a few years back in a fire) but I couldn't afford it. I do get paid tomorrow though...
Descendant X on
Garry: I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time I'd rather not spend the rest of the winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!
Try this one on for size: Trent Reznor has jumped the musical shark, so to speak.
The lyrics are the only downside to this album, as he's touching on the blatantly fucking obvious, and is in no way presenting any sort of new opinion.

the album is telling the story of Year Zero
each song is from a different character in the story's viewpoint
it's not really about his opinion on anything that is happening now, but what might happen in the future

Oh yeah, anyone else noticed that most of the lyrics in The Warning are in quotes?
Of the different viewpoints I didn't expect to actually see one from The Presence itself. Vessel seems to be all about the consumption of Parepin or Opal but I'm not completely sure.
okay so now in as many words as you like explain it
while standing on your head
(no really, tell me more about the album since I've had it playing in the background for a couple hours and I like it and I'm interested in the story behind the ARG)
it's cooler when you put your number on freerebelart
its the same number you call that calls you but you have to say the password it gives you, then it gives you a different speech telling you how fucked you now are

Check out the echoingthesound forum in the OP.
It does a really good job of giving a rather concise overview.

I can explain it, but the proper way is to actually go the sites and look at it for yourself. I think the album is better if you experience the ARG. Just wiki Year Zero to get links to some of the main sites. Very well done and some of the shit you see and hear is just plain creepy.
EDIT: Anyone seen the conversation on the Solution Backwards Initiative site yet?

I got free shit! A couple of stickers, the Survivalism single, and a Beside You In Time DVD sampler. Kinda cool, has 5 performances on it.
After the album though, the DJ said "and that was Nine Inch Nails new album, With Teeth."
I was all, O_o Are you retarded boy?
Oh my god it knows my name
Oh man, it knows my name and phone number. Completely fucked.
It just makes me want to put together a decent DAC/AMP setup for my bedside listening station even more.

like, rhythmically
I can't figure out what he's doing there
raping your ears with awesome
right
I don't have it handy to listen to but I remember hearing it on the radio and going "Buh? Is he singing off-beat?"
Musicians?
he's singing to one of the beats
there are like 4
It's like the song is 4/4 and he's singing 5/4 or something.
though sometimes you do have to look for it
but once you find it you'll always hear it

I AM DEEPLY OFFENDED BY YOUR INFLAMMATORY MESSAGE AND WILL LAUNCH INTO A FANBOYISH RANT TO AMUSE YOU.
Oh how i've waited.

Don't listen to Mister Longbaugh, he is a big stupid head.

In ten words or less.
No linking.
Hah!
Reznor lost his mind, it made for a good story.
Edit: Critical did that much better by the way.
That could be the case too, I guess that would make more sense.
Quick story, too: I called the USBM number on the back of the CD at work and got the "Blah blah we're tracking you, you're fucked now." message.
5 minutes later, I hear a loud booming voice behind me: "IS [insert my name here] IN THIS OFFICE???"
It was Fed Ex with a package for me... but for a split second I thought I was going to fucking jail.
