I like the shift from the first ones, but is cementing a character in a story archetype the best alternative? I fear it might limit character development into a different role
unless it would be possible to change your meta-trait over time
Well, characters are often pretty set into their roles, which is, I think a little less restricting than, say, being set into a genre - any role can participate easily in any genre's scene without much trouble.
I would allow meta-trait changes with appropriate reason. In fact, I sort of like the idea that you can expend Special (likely to be renamed once I think of something better) to jump to another class - that fits really well with the whole Narrative Emphasis thing the system has.
I've got a couple ideas for a character when the next game comes around that I'm pretty sure I can alter well enough when more details on the setting arise, whenever that may be. Too early for anything solid on my part, though.

Changing the meta-traits around! The whole Action, Drama, Comedy, etc.thing is cool, but it actually works better if, instead we use more universal archetypes for the meta-traits - The Hero, The Wingman, The Tough, The Heart, The Brains, The Mentor, and the Mascot.
The original Meta-Traits become a quality of the scene instead of the character.
I was looking forward to Genre Meta-Traits for characters, dang it
Doesn't really seem like a huge transition. And with genres being part of the scene, it's not entirely lost. S'nobigdeal.
It was unique. People tend to gravitate towards those roles on their own, they didn't need to be required. Oh well.
I kinda get what you're talking about. And anyway, certain archetypes don't really seem to fit in certain genres. I mean, who's going to be the "brains" in, say, a drama? That seems more like either an action or a comedy archetype.
I dunno, maybe I'm talking out my ass, and I'm certainly thinking too much about it when RADlands is still only half over.

The Genre depends on the scene and someone who is The Brains of something can still very well have more depth than simply being "The Brains".

Oh, I still think it's gonna be good, no matter the specifics of the system.

Also regarding the meta-traits: making them into archetypes seems a lot more static, which is good, while a character's genre can still play a part in how you play them, and seems like a much better way to let them develop in a way you want
Lil Chuck has been pretty comedic lately, but for his loyalty mission I'm assuming it will be a much more dramatic role for him to evolve into
of course it's up to de?ad whether he still want's this to have any mechanical effect next game, but it wouldn't be very hard to say, giving a small hidden bonus to rolls depending on how well a character is fitting into the mood of the scene

considering the fact that he was giving out the information, I figured he wanted to prompt discussion and gauge opinions. vOv

Yeah, see a concern I have with this is that when someone makes a character with a specific role in mind from the get-go, I dunno I can see certain characters not turning out well because of that. Like forced maybe?
My prediction is that all the Hero characters will be the worst characters.
Maybe you could apply meta-traits after having the characters play for a bit or something?

either way, hurray!
I think I already have a great character idea to either replace Jim after his unlikely death (hah) or for this new game when it starts
albeit, he's a bit similar to Mori's character (hah), but I still think he's pretty great
