well, I was wondering across the internet when I came across this website, full of weird art. I started looking through the detailed artwork, each with its own little backstory, when I came across this:
The Saint Of Parasites
over the next half hour I found myself humming a strange tune. I decided to do something about it and try to write it (whatever "it" was) down. So, this is just the beginning of... I don't know what, and my first ever attempt to actually write anything good on purpose. Thought I might as well share.
the body burns
its pistons churn
as fever takes its hold
inside, secure
writhing, demure
an emissary yearns
for the coming of your queen to be
a mistress skinned in ivory
to ask her lover, "give to me
that which is your own."
and in her acts, no rhyme nor reason
and in your pain she takes delight
within your heart, the mark of treason
for she's the saint of parasites
she is the saint of parasites
she floats above
the ruined shell
her kiss an open gate to hell
behind her face
an aching hole
through which, you lose your tainted soul
and across her sides, robed children stand
holding her veil in pallid hands
they sing to you "oh broken host,
what pleasures you shall know."
and in her acts, no rhyme nor reason
and in your pain she takes delight
within your heart, the mark of treason
for she's the saint of parasites
she is the saint of parasites
final release
from the disease
a flight from the remains
the creatures free
consume with glee
as you begin to fade
but a smile lights her tranquil face
as you are held in tight embrace
a specter screams "my lady, I
shall serve forever more"
and in her acts, no rhyme nor reason
and in your pain she takes delight
within your heart, the mark of treason
for she's the saint of parasites
and through her hand, you are her reaper
and as you crawl, you feel her light
and by her word, you burrow deeper
for she's the saint of parasites
she is the saint of parasites
Two things: "yerns" should be spelled "yearns", and I'd suggest changing "tainted" to "rotten" or something similar. The word "tainted" has unfortunately been ruined by overuse in bad emo poetry, so even though everything around it worked, I still winced at that one word.
Metal as hell though.

yeah there are a bunch of spelling mistakes in there
I wrote it a while back without a spellchecker so I just left it there and forgot about it
and screw it, not gonna change a thing. If people might find it emo or whatever, that's their prerogative, I like it.
and let's make distinctions, there's not a want to write because one day a dude read him a nice book and tore off his shirt and said "LET'S GET DOWN TO BUSINESS, GONNA DO THIS"
being inspired to do anything for me is to spite something or someone
not really any one person for inspiration, or a person at all! though there's stuff i can identify with
like warren ellis and transmet, man that was some shit right there
I haven't read any of Warren Ellis's stuff, so aouknow. Are there any non-comic-book writers that you like? Prose fiction, lyrics, poetry, screenplays, scripts, etc.?
And you are motivated to do things out of spite for others? that's interesting. Have you ever felt inspired to do something out of a positive emotion?
you can pick and choose the questions that you respond to, of course. I'm just curious because I've never really seen you talk about your own writing, so I'm wondering what's going on there.
so you write both out of a deliberate desire to hurt or offend and also to put down on paper issues that you're struggling with?
have you ever written something longer than a short story, or are you most comfortable with short fiction?
I am curious if you like any prose fiction authors, too, I'm not sure I've ever seen you mention one (maybe hate on Stephanie Meyers or Nicholas Sparks or something, actually) -- I'm wondering which novelists or short story authors really get your engine pumping
well I thought that the second part is what you meant by "reconciling something you're thinking about"
the first part is just the definition of spite, "a desire to hurt, annoy or offend" or "deliberately acting out of ill will or an urge to hurt or humiliate"
if I misinterpreted you then I apologize! did you mean spite differently?
going to work on something for serious after i'm comfortable enough after knocking out like a fucking lot of tiny stories to jog the ol' thought process

oh hey sup this is still a writing thread right
because I just wrote something
I don't even know what to make of it
enjoy
All that I long for is a sweet waking
Soft bells softly ringing my dreams into parts
All that I care for is that one moment
Between fading and rising that follows the night
All that I wish for is that aroma
Of scented perfume, weaker by light
All that I long for is a sweet waking
With you, my dear, held tight in my arms
i'm having a hard time building up a persistent community for birdville, and i'd really appreciate it if any of you guys would pop in to say yo hi or whatever, if only just to generate some activity. i relaunched it last night after getting a better hosting option sorted out so it's fresh and ready to start over.
i really think it's important to have places like this available because writing communities are one of the biggest motivators for good writing. so if you're able to help make this work you'll have masses of my gratitude and i will send you things!
p.s. i'm thinking of running an under-1000-words fiction competition on the site where the winner(s) will be published in issue iii, would anyone be interested in participating in that?
p.p.s i haven't posted this in the wb because i value that place dearly and i wouldn't want to look like i'm splintering it all. but i'm not snubbing you guys, honest!
p.p.p.s i'm on my second beer working up to post this
i had a link on reddit but i got into an unprofessional spat after it got written off as 'spam' without 'original content' (? it's fucking reddit) so i deleted it
twitter is a good thing but i'm not the best at utilizing it

think outside of the sphere of PA (not saying you is, but i've noticed this has been recurring throughout people doin they solo efforts)
like that andrew hussie
i don't know if he making arab money but he probably not doing horrific!
the mag itself is what will ultimately drive the community and that's not really centred around this forum. thanks to the physical print issues i made up, contacting my old uni professor for her students, old friends, zine fairs, facebook, etc. only a small part of its traffic is from here
it's really hard to say. there are people who will read it, that much is at least certain, so all i really need to do keep trying to tap what market there is
at the very least after around six months of the mag being live i've had enough positive feedback and attention that i'm not wasting my time. people value the stories and they value having outlets like this for their work so i gotta keep plugging
sometimes, a unifying theme can give an episodic feel
it's a mag of anthologies, right?
maybe you have a stewin' issue, where dudes just stewing
or perhaps there are a few stories relative to the theme, and maybe there's a serialized story! a serial month to month would keep people coming back to find out what happens next, and hell sometimes maybe the serial happens to deal with the theme?
i'm not a big fan of themed issues in general. i think they limit writing more than encourage it. i have been trying to hit on some of the issue's common themes in my editorial pieces but that's just my barren prose that might just be a write-off
serials i could go with, but i'd rather have a big piece ready and serialize it than have it written as the magazine goes. serials tend to... dissipate, and i don't want to let that happen
anyway i'm not too worried about the mag itself, for a literary zine it does the job and i'm happy with the audience. i just want a way to kickstart the forum a bit, not only so that it doesn't look empty, but also so that people stumbling across won't feel so unusual signing up and using it
Posts
and preferably if you set it to a comical youtube video of ye-olde black-and-white car crashes
So basically, everything about my job.
screw you buddy! my lyrics don't need to be tainted by common music!
(oh god oh god why am I posting this)

name is these are your nuts, sir
i found this amusing

i should bang out more of these

it can be spite for a situation, reconciling something you're thinking about. lots of stuff

do you always write prose fiction, or do you sometimes try, say, comic book scripts
I wrote.... Something, I guess? What the fuck is this.
