Phonebook is a really excellent description for it. But I love that format so much more than individual volumes.
See, I prefer having the smaller ones. I do most of my reading on the bus, so with the smaller ones, I can just bring two or three or however many volumes I can get through in one day of bus riding, rather than the entire ginormous saga.
This is also why I kinda wanna buy the individual trades of New Frontier, even though we own the Absolute Edition. I can't just toss that in my backpack and head out the door with it, you know?

I just love the pacing in this story so very much. At the beginning, you think you're in for a lighthearted, goofy adventure. And you're really invested in it because the characters are so great and of course the art is marvelous. But then things start getting darker and more serious, but he paces it so well and injects some humor at just the right times. Just absolutely wonderful.

Yeah, and for someone like you who does read this sort of thing on the move I can get behind that opinion. I do pretty much all my reading at home though and there is just something about opening up this massive tome and reading it through that is a little satisfying in and of itself.
Also, I was at the Barnes and Nobles, and there was a Bone novel I had never seen before about like, some kids, some bone kids, and their grandpa going on an adventure.
I just kinda sighed and walked away.

And it closes on the same notes it came in with. Nice.
I am fairly sure the fonebook is the most popular thing in my school library. It also has to be rebought every few years/months, as the binding can just not take it.

You know what is almost as awesome? The prequel comic, Rose. It's got art by Charles Vess! Other than the light fantasy vibe, it's a very different book than Bone is. I'd recommend hunting it down.

Nice.
Atlantis Fantasyworld in Santa Cruz. It's pretty great.
Why I fear the ocean.

Dear satan I wish for this or maybe some of this....oh and I'm a medium or a large.
because bone is pretty great
When I was younger, my father had volumes of Bone on the bookcase, and I adored reading those. Pretty much what got me into comic books.
I can't post it through the tears
He eventually knocked on the door to ask if everything was okay.
Oh hey that first sentence looks really strange without context.
And it closes on the same notes it came in with. Nice.
And Smith's Captain Marvel is pretty great.
Why I fear the ocean.
No, fuck you. Never post this.
Never post any scene where a character in Bone says goodbye to another character.
this actually makes me super happy
I'm gonna wait for this big colored omnibus to come out before I read all of it.

God, that was so long ago.
The time since I last read that magazine is actually longer than some forumers here have been alive. :?

That was my first encounter with it. Back then I just thought it was something new for the magazine.
It always had me interested, but never quite enough for me to read the whole thing. Maybe someday.

get this one, black and white is how it was originally intended to be read.
I mean, it depends on your niece. It's appropriate for kids but some of the bits will be pretty scary.
